Recommended Posts

Alright, I've completed 358/2 just a few days ago, and I've decided I want to start a book about it. I will use everything from the game into this story. I will try to self- publish it for my own use it ever gets finished. I can't sell it to the public do to copyright.

For all of you who read this, I have posted what I have written so far, which i believe is 20 pages. If you see mistakes or want to add a side comment or advice, please feel free to do so.
Prologue

The members of Organization 13 sat around the meeting room, listening to their leader, Xemnas, as he spoke about the Organization’s mission. Each member wore the cloak of the Organization, pure dark and menacing, as they wanted it to be. Some of them had their hoods pulled up, others watched Xemnas speak. Each member had a look of exhaustion, intrigue, or viciousness in their eyes, from the words he spoke.

“Pitiful Heartless, mindlessly collecting hearts. The rage of the Keyblade, releases those hearts. They gather in darkness, masterless and free… until they weave together to make Kingdom Hearts. And when that time comes, we can truly, finally exist.”
Yes, that was the goal of the Organization. To defeat the Heartless and collect hearts from the almighty Kingdom Hearts.

On top of the Twilight Town clock tower, Axel and Roxas sat, watching the sunset over the sea. Axel turned to Roxas,
“Roxas, are you really sure you don’t have a heart?” he asked, wondering about his friend.
“I dunno…” Roxas replied, “I can’t… just look inside. But I figure, if there is something in there… Inside us, we would feel it, wouldn’t we?’
“True enough…” Axel said to him, handing him an ice cream.
Roxas took it, and smiled at his friend.

Roxas thought back to when Xemnas found him. He remembered the day when the Organization gave him purpose.

Roxas stood in the graveyard of an abandoned mansion. He stood there, looking lost in thought, as he just remembered what had happened. He tried to grasp the memories that he knew were there, but sighed as they just faded from his mind.

Still standing lost in thought, he looked up to see a portal of pure darkness, forming into the shape of a doorway. A man stepped out from the portal, walking as if everything around him made him stronger. He wore a black coat, with silver chains hanging from the pulled up hood the man wore.

The man stepped forward to Roxas, reaching his hand out to the boy, speaking.
“You seek answers,” He waved his hand out in front of the boy. In his hand’s wake, letters appeared. The letters formed the name ‘Sora’. The letters started moving, until they started to circle around Roxas, until they stopped it in front of him. “I can give you purpose.” The man spoke.
Roxas looked up, and stared at the name in front of him. He spoke it, “Roxas…”
“That is right- the new you.”
This was the day when he had learned his name, and his number in the Organization’s ranking.

Pulling back from that memory, He heard Axel still speaking,
“Man, I miss the old times. Still got it memorized? The day we met, the day you got your new name, you and I sat here just like this, and watched the sunset.”
Roxas sat there, still thinking about that same day.

Day 255
~Why the Sun Sets Red~

Roxas sat atop the clock tower, holding an ice cream, looking alone and lost.

“You’re early.” came the voice of Axel.
“No, you’re just late.” Roxas said to him.
Axel sat down on the ledge, and turned to Roxas.
Axel had hair that was spiked red, with turquoise eyes, with green dashes below them.
Roxas spoke, “Today makes 255…”
“What’s that about?” Axel questioned him.
“It’s been that many days… since I first joined the Organization.
Man, time flies.”
“So, you got the number memorized, do you?”
“Yeah… Have to hang on to something, right? It’s not like I have memories from before the Organization. Don’t you remember? I acted like a zombie…”
“Right, that first week you could barely form a sentence. But c’mon, you still act like a zombie!” Axel exclaimed, slapping Roxas on the back.
“Oh, thanks!” they both started to laugh.

“Hey Roxas, Bet you don’t know why the sun sets red. You see, light is made up of a lot of colors, and out of all those colors, red is the one that travels the farthest.” Axel explained.

“Like I asked, know- it- all!” they started laughing again.

Still at the clock tower, Roxas was still sitting, while Axel had his hands behind his head, laying on the ground.
Roxas looked at the roof entrance.
“Seriously, where is she?”
Axel frowned, and sat up. For only he knew who Roxas meant, and where she was. But he would never tell Roxas the truth about Xion.

You gotta figure, everything starts someplace. The closest thing for me was when I was just seven days old, and I met her.

Chapter 1
Meet Xion

Day 7
~Number XIV~

Roxas lay awake in his bed, staring at the transparent white of his ceiling. He had his hands folded across chest.
After a few moments of silence, we sat up and swung his legs outward so they hung against his bed. He stood up, stretched, and walked out of his room. He started walking through the Organization’s castle, to The Grey Area, where Saïx would brief members of their missions for the day.

Upon walking into the room, He was greeted by some pleasant and unpleasant replies. He heard Larxene ewwing about his awaken, And Xigbar’s approval about him joining the Organization.

The Grey Area was, well, Grey, with intricate patterns decorating the floors and walls of the monotonous room. Even the couches that were positioned around the room were white, except for the black robes and faces of the Organization members who sat in them. In the far back, where Saïx usually stood, was an entire wall of glass. When looked out of, you could see the rest of the Castle That Never Was, and the city far below it.

Looking around the room, Roxas walked over to where Saïx stood.
Saïx turned to face him.
“Roxas, there is a meeting today in the Round Room. I expect you and everyone else on time.” He stated.

Axel walked over to them from the wall he was leaning against, and spoke to Roxas.
“Heya, Roxas.” Axel said to him. Roxas looked up, but didn’t say anything.
“Something I can help you with there, chatterbox?”
Roxas, still looking Axel, didn’t say a word to him.
“Anyway, today we’re supposed to convene in the Round Room. Blegh, meetings…”
Finally, Roxas managed to squeak out two words.
“…Round…Room…?”
Axel nodded, “Yeah, apparently boss man’s got some big news. C’mon, let’s go there now.”

“Good tidings, friends.” Xemnas’ voice boomed throughout the entire room. “Today is a momentous day. I am pleased to announce, that a new comrade has been chosen to wear the coat.”
Each member nodded in agreement from their raised seats. Each seat was set around the room on different heights. Xemnas’ was the highest, while Roxas’s was the lowest. From the middle of the room came a young girl wearing the Organization’s coat with the hood drawn.
“Number XIV.”

“Let us all welcome one of the Keyblade’s chosen.”
Roxas remembered his orientation into the Organization. He walked the same way Number XIV did just now, except he was accompanied by Axel.

Pulling back from his memory, he looked up to see Number XIV staring at him. When she noticed him looking at her, she smiled, and Roxas gasped.

After seven days of sticking to a number and a name, I had trouble processing anything else. I couldn’t have told you who the people in black coats were, or what they wanted with me.

Day 8
~The Icing on the Cake~

Roxas walked into the Grey Area with his head down, until he noticed Saïx waiting for him.
“Roxas, your work begins today. I will issue missions, which the Organization expects you to carry out.” He started to tell Roxas and Roxas just stared at him blankly, still as silent as can be.
“Think of these early missions as exercises,” He continued, “You still have a lot to learn before we put you to a real test.”

After a few more blank stares from Roxas, Saïx issued Axel over.
“Axel will be joining you for your first mission. Isn’t that right, Axel?” Saïx said coldly.
“What,” Axel replied, “You making me the kid’s mentor now or something?” Axel walked closer, while Saïx turned his back to them both.
“Surely, you don’t mind showing Roxas here the ropes? Roxas, come see me when you’re ready to leave.” Walking away, Axel turned to Roxas.

“Well, you heard the man. Starting today, I’m your babysitter.” Axel joked. Roxas looked at him, but replied nothing.
“Sheesh, stop acting like a zombie, and we can get this show on the road.”

Walking away from Axel, he looked to see the Organization members who occupied the room. On the far left couch sat Zexion, studying his Lexicon (His book and choice of weapon), looking deep in thought and in a trance. Standing next to Saïx stood Number XIV, Xion, looking at the floor. She was wearing her coat, with the hood drawn and lips closed. Axel had gone to sit in a couch nearby, looking relaxed.

Finally, Roxas went back over to where Saïx stood, telling he was ready to depart. Before leaving, Saïx turned to Axel, and motioned them to go. He opened the black portal that would take them to the world where Roxas’ challenge awaited him.

As Roxas walked through the menacing portal, Saïx stopped Axel.
“Teach him well.” Saïx told him.
“Don’t worry,” Axel motioned, “I’ll make sure he makes the grade.” he said, with a sarcastic smile.

file:///C:\Users\Robert\AppData\Local\Temp\msohtml1\01\clip_image001.jpg

As Roxas walked through, he took a look at where the portal had taken him. The dark portal had dumped him somewhere what looked like a tunnel system. In front of him stood two flat platforms, one that looked low enough to jump to, while the other was high and unreachable from the ground. Beside him was an iron gate, which was closed. As he looked around, he saw flashing lights with switches on them. He figured maybe if he flipped one, the gate would open.

Shortly after, Axel walked through.
”Roxas, can you remember my name?” he asked, hoping that Roxas still had some brain in him.
“It’s Axel.” He told him.
“And our boss’s name?”
“Xemnas.”
“Very good, Roxas! No way you’re gonna forget his name, right? Now let’s get started talking about what we do on missions. Ahem. Now missions are… uhh… They’re, you know….. Hrm.”
Roxas stared at Axel blankly, trying to contemplate his uninformative statements.
“You know what?” Axel continued, rubbing the back of his head.
“Talking is dumb. Let’s just go ahead and get our hands dirty, shall we? Follow me.” He stated.

Axel turned his back to Roxas, and then sprinted toward the higher platform that was behind them. He jumped through the air and caught the higher ledge. Using all his muscles, he pulled himself up and then looked back at Roxas. He motioned for him to do the same.

Roxas started at a sprint and jumped at the ledge, just like Axel had, but instead of grabbing the ledge, he slammed against the wall, and slid down the side.
“You can take the easier route.” Axel shouted to him.
Roxas, rubbing his bruised side, walked over to the smaller platform and walked up to it. The higher platform being closer to him now, reached for it, and to his own astonishment, was able to grip it firmly and pull himself up to Axel. Panting with relief from the short exercise, Roxas looked up to Axel.

“There ya go. Good job.” Axel complimented him.
“Thanks.” Roxas said, finally coming out of his zombie- like trance.
Axel gestured for him to listen closely.
“But don’t think you can just run and jump you’re way through every mission. You’ve gotta BE AWARE.”
Roxas looked at him and mumbled.
“What… What do you mean?”
“You hafta look around. Sometimes what you’re looking for is sitting right under your nose. Got it memorized?”
“Yeah… I think so.”
“Alright then, time for a road test. There’s a treasure chest somewhere around these tunnels. I want you to find it.”
“That’s all I have to do?”
“I know, don’t hurt yourself. Anyway, remember to look around.”

As Roxas left out of the small area they had began in, he turned out to the tunnel hallways. They were made from yellow brick with wooden postings to hold the frames up to keep the roof from collapsing. There were small lights posted around the walls to give some luminance to the dull surroundings.

Turning down the left side of hallway, Roxas noticed the signs and switches leading out to various hallways. He kept walking until he saw something peculiar on one of the entrances to another hallway.
Going from corner to corner of the doorway were three black and white slashes, which, when looked at right, one could notice that there was one big X.
“Axel… What’s this?” He asked him, wondering about the strange blockage.
“A barricade,” he told Roxas, “It means you’re not supposed to go that way.”
“You mean there’s nothing down there?”
“Yeah, that’s the gist of it. They’re set up to keep us on task.” Axel looked more closely.
“That,” he continued, “or out of trouble. I mean, hello, look at it. Big menacing X? I’ll take the beaten path, thanks.”
Eyeing the Barricade, Roxas kept on walking down the hallway.

Roxas searched endlessly, looking for any hint of a treasure in the nearby corridors. Upon reaching a gate marked with a giant, glowing ‘five’ hanging above it rested a small, red chest. Roxas turned to Axel, “Is this the chest?” he asked. Axel smiled at him, and replied, “Sure is! Well done, Roxas.” Roxas stared at Axel, as if waiting for him to go on. Axel couldn’t stand the silence between them and retorted, “Well, what are you waiting for?”
“The mission was to find the chest,” he said to him, “Aren’t I done?”
“Uh, Roxas, there’s this thing about chests. They have stuff in them.”
“So I should open it then?”
“Well, yes that is what we generally do when we find a chest such as that one.”

Roxas summoned his Keyblade, the choice awarded to him through anyone’s guess. He walked up to the treasure chest and tapped it twice with the key- shaped end of his weapon. The chest made a quiet ‘click’ noise, and soon the chest gave way. Roxas, bewildered at his find, turned around as Axel said to him,
“Good work! You can keep what you found. Now, it’s time RTC.”
“RTC?” Roxas asked him, wondering what the three letters stood for.
“Return to the Castle,” Axel explained, “Go ahead, and lead the way back to the dark corridor that brought us here.”
Roxas nodded, and turned to lead them both back to the dark hallway that had brought them there.

When Roxas had found the corridor, he stopped in front of it, and turned to face Axel, whom was applauding.
“Bravo,” He said impressed, “So whaddya think? Got the hang of this mission business?”
“Uh-huh.”
“I’m sorry, cooouldn’t quite catch that.” Axel said, with a slight hint of sarcasm.
“I said…”
“Hmm?”
“I could have done that blindfolded.”
“Aha, I dunno if I want a blindfolded zombie on the loose. All right, smart aleck, you did good. And no successful mission is complete without a little Icing on the cake. C’mon.” he said, leading Roxas off to an unknown destination.
“But,” Roxas stuttered, “Don’t we have to RTC?” Axel turned around, and waves his hand in a short gesture.
“Later. Don’t you remember our hangout?”

They sat on top of the clock tower, Roxas looking around at the strange place Axel had referred to as a ‘hangout’. As they both sat down on the ledge of the looming clock tower, Roxas looked down, and gasped. They were at least ten stories high, and he didn’t want to be caught falling anytime soon. He looked straight and noticed the small trolley making its way across a large bridge over top of the looming sea, which from this height looked like a turquoise carpet.

Axel reached into his coat pocket and withdrew two small packages. He turned to Roxas and tossed him one.
“Here, this is the icing on the cake.” Axel told him.
Axel unwrapped his, revealing a small light-blue ice cream bar, and took a bite. Roxas just stared at the bar in his hands. Axel noticed his odd look and asked him, “Remember what this ice cream is called?”
Roxas looked up to him and muttered, “Umm…”
Axel chuckled, “It’s sea-salt ice cream. C’mon, I already told you once. Get it memorized, man.”
“It’s really salty, but yet, sweet at the same time.” Roxas said, taking a large chunk out of his treat.
“Ha,” Axel chuckled again, “You said the same exact thing the other day.”
“I did? I don’t remember.”
“Hey, what has it been, a week since you’ve shown up?”
“Maybe.”
“ ‘Maybe’? C’mon, you must remember that much.”
Roxas just stared blankly at him.
“Well,” Axel continued, “That’s okay. Today’s where it all begins anyway.”
“Yeah?”
“Sure! Here you are, out in the fields, working for the Organization. Today, you’re one of us.”
“I guess it’s a start.” He said, eating another piece of ice cream.

That was my first day working for the Organization. They gave me missions, and I carried them out. But if you asked me what my job was, I would’ve just stared blankly at you.

Day 9
~Heartless~

Roxas entered the Grey area to find Different members lounging on the couches, sitting patiently for their daily tasks to begin. The members all bore plain expressions on their faces, too little amusement. Saïx and Marluxia stood next to each other, conversing about something important, Roxas assumed. HE started to make his way toward them when Saïx noticed his presence and spoke, “Roxas, Today you will be working with Marluxia. Come see me when you are ready.” He said, introducing Marluxia, as he walked away to speak with the others. Marluxia inclined his toward him, and spoke reassuringly, “Well, there you have it. Welcome to the fold, Roxas. We’ll set out once you’re ready.” He then turned to go join Saïx.

Roxas started toward Saïx to mention his readiness, but was interrupted by Demyx, who sat on the couch fiddling with blue Sitar, his instrument and choice of weapon. He looked up to Roxas, and showed him the Sitar. “So,” he began, “Play any instruments?”
Roxas stood their in silence. Demyx, puzzled, continued, “Never mind…” Roxas, shrugged, and moved further away.

Vexen leaned against the wall, his back stern and his arms crossed, was watching as Roxas from across the room. He drew a deep breath, and muttered to himself, “A Keyblade wielder… This could prove to be quite enlightening.” He chuckled, opened the Dark corridor, and moved onto to his own tasks.

Roxas and Marluxia entered Twilight Town near the town square, where the yearly Struggle tournaments were held. Marluxia turned to Roxas and spoke, “Roxas, was it? I never properly introduced myself. I am Marluxia, number XI.” He brushed back a lock of pink hair from his face. His hair was long and bright pink, against a flat nose and handsome face. Roxas gathered together his introduction, and replied, “Okay, so what do I have to do today?” he asked.
“Today, your today is to collect hearts.”
“Um, how do I do that?”
Marluxia thought for a moment, considering an answer to his simple question. Summoning an answer, he spoke calmly, “Roxas, could you summon your Keyblade for me?”
“Well, sure, all right.”

Roxas cleared his mind, and thought of the Keyblade he had become accustomed to. He imagined the small shaft of the blade, and soon he felt it materializing is his hand. He held up the shining oversized key in his hand, colored silver from the golden membrane around it. At the end of the membrane hung a small chain, which at the tip of the chain was a small mouse shaped figure- piece.

Marluxia, completely mesmerized by the Keyblade, drew himself together and said under his breath, “Lucky number XIII… At last, a chosen wielder of the Keyblade amongst our ranks.”
He chuckled to himself, a small smile creeping upon his face. Quickly, however, the smile vanished when three beings of pure dark energy materialized several yards away from them.

Completely black and menacing, these small creatures were rather short, with large antennae on their head, with large, clear yellow eyes. They crawled around themselves, and at times they seemed to hide into the ground, their dark shadows clearly visible in the daylight. Roxas, whom was taken aback by the sudden intruders, shivered and yelled, “Whoa, what are those?”
“Hmmph,” Marluxia told him, “Nothing to be feared. So, Roxas, shall we put that power of yours to a little test? Use your Keyblade, and defeat those Heartless!”

Roxas nodded toward Marluxia, raised his Keyblade, and charged straight for the Heartless. He lunged with the Keyblade, piercing the first Heartless in the place where its heart should be, until it de- materialized. Roxas smiled triumphantly at his first kill, but lost that smile as the other Heartless lunged for his undefended body. He blocked the first charging Heartless and watched it fade to nothingness as the third and final Heartless slashed him in the back. He stumbled to the ground, caught himself, swore and turned around to stab the beast that had pained him. Yet, the creature was gone. In the Heartless’s place stood Marluxia, his seven- foot scythe in hand, where the final remains of the Heartless started fading away.
“Good, those Heartless are called Shadows.”
“But what are Heartless?”
“Dark creatures who roam about, searching for hearts. They come in two larger varieties. The ones you just defeated are known as Purebloods. Purebloods don’t release hearts any hearts when you defeat them. In other words, don’t bother with them. Your mission is to collect hearts, after all. The other variety-” Marluxia was cut off by three yellow blazes of light. They resembled small fairies with yellow witch hats above dark piercing eyes.

Marluxia, who by now was content the three had appeared at the right moment, finished his thought, “-are right over there. Forget about the Shadows. Take these out, Roxas. They are your real targets.”
Roxas nodded once again to his superior, Charged at the three floating targets. He jumped to strike the first, but it dodged and flew away. The other two looked at Roxas, and started to charge some strange yellow aura. When they seemed about ready to explode, the energy held within was released and Roxas was zapped with two lightning bolts. He flew backwards onto the cobble ground, and smoke rose from his chest. Panting and enraged, Roxas quickly stood and swung his Keyblade at his attackers. Catching the first one on the end of his Keyblade, it deformed into a small, crystal heart that rose into the air. Satisfied, he jumped to catch the other two with quick succession. Amazed at his succession, he hung the Keyblade on his back, like a lumber jack would an axe.

Marluxia had stood to the side, a gasp at the fact that Roxas had taken them out so quickly. He soon opened his mouth and spoke quietly, “Those are what we call Emblem Heartless.”
“Why are they so special?” Roxas asked.
“Did you notice? Hearts appeared when you defeated them.”
“Right…”
“Your job is to collect those remaining hearts.”
“Is there any special trick to it?”
“None, just as long as the Heartless are felled by the Keyblade, the hearts will be captured.”
“I see, but what will happen to the hearts I collect?”
“They will all gather as one, and create an almighty force known as Kingdom Hearts.”
“Which is good, right?”
Marluxia nodded his head, stretched his hand out to Roxas, touching his shoulder.
“Completing Kingdom Hearts is the Organization’s primary objective. And to do that, we need all the hearts we can get.”
“So, that’s what the Organization does? Collect hearts?”
“Actually, you’re the first one of us to accomplish this.”
“Wait, then-”
Marluxia quickly cut him off, “The rest of us can defeat Heartless, but we have no way of collecting the hearts they release. Eventually, they will turn right back into heartless. You see now how special you are?”
“Hmm…”
“With power like yours…”
Rapidly three more Yellow Opera appeared, their electrifying radiance filling the area with quick succession. Marluxia drew a breath, the spoke, “Defeat them Roxas, they are all gifts. Squeeze every last heart out of them!”

Not even before Marluxia had finished his command, Roxas was already sprinting at full force to three delinquents. He jumped and swung, catching all three Yellow Operas before they could even gather their explosive energy. IN each of their places, three more crystal hearts formed and rose silently into the air.

Marluxia, impressed with his work for the day, turned and spoke, “Excellent Roxas, your work is done for the day. I am amazed at your work.”
Marluxia stared intently at Roxas’s weapon, until it turned into thin air, out of sight. He whispered to himself, “That Keyblade… The things that could be done with that sort of power.
Marluxia waved the thought away, and continued, “I have high hopes for you, Roxas- as we all do. Defeat the Heartless, and help the Organization reach our noble goal.”
Roxas, confused slightly and dazed from exhaustion, responded, “Um, all right?”
“Shall we RTC, then?” Marluxia said as he led the way through the dark corridor he had summoned moments before. Roxas nodded, and followed him into the endless void.
