Stan Alda
Remember Pyramid of Light? It was a real stinker, wasn't it? Aside from the ridiculous plot and generic doomsday villain, it also had a pair of promotional cards: Kaiba's "Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon" and Yugi's "Sorcerer of Dark Magic". They had pretty good effects for the time, but they were irritatingly hard to summon Nomis. In this more enlightened (*cough* *cough*) age, Xyzs can do what these cards did and do it faster. Being the nostalgia nut that I am, I just had to bring them back. (In case you haven't noticed, I'm beginning to warm up to Xyzs.) They're meant to be a bit more splashable: Shinier Dragon could play nice with Hieratic's Level 8 LIGHT Dragons, and Sorcerer works with any Level 6 or 7 Spellcasters like it did before. A key factor is their lack of restrictions; they can be Special Summoned as easily as any other Xyz. Just make sure you can afford their fairly steep Material costs... Sorcerer of Darker Magic DARK Rank 7 Spellcaster/Xyz/Effect 2 Level 7 Spellcaster-Type monsters This card can also be Xyz Summoned (from your Extra Deck) by attaching 2 Level 6 monsters to it as Xyz Materials. This card gains 200 ATK for each "Dark Magician" or "Dark Magician Girl" attached to it as an Xyz Material. During each player's turn, when a Trap Card is activated: detach 1 monster; negate the activation, and if you do, banish it. 3200/2800 Blue-Eyes Shinier Dragon LIGHT Rank 8 Dragon/Xyz/Effect 2 Level 8 LIGHT Dragon-type monsters This card gains 300 ATK for each Dragon-Type monster in your Graveyard. When your opponent targets this card for a card effect: detach 1 card from this monster; negate the card and destroy it. 3000/2500
newhat
Didja know that analogues of these cards already exist? Not the same thing, but hey. Sorcerer of Darker Magic is ridiculously strong even though its effect isn't optional. The ATK-boosting effect will almost never see play since it's much easier to make this with 2 Level 6 Hieratics or something. BESD could get pretty strong and it's not hard to Summon, but its range of self-protection is narrow.

As for balancing, would it be better to get rid of Sorcerer's Level 6 summoning and ATK boosting? They were meant as in incentive to actually Use Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl with it, as opposed to the Hieratics. I can see where you're coming from, though. BESD is fine, then?
