Recommended Posts

Creature Spells:

4x Boros Elite

4x Dryad Militant

2x Falkenrath Exterminator

3x Foundry Street Denizen (I want Champion of the Parish but don't want to buy them atm)

4x Frontline Medic (How I managed getting these I do not know)

4x Legion Loyalist

2x Odric, Master Tactician (1 turn clock is nice, but he's proven to be slow as hell :s)

4x Skyknight Legionnaire

2x Spark Trooper

3x Wojek Halberdiers

Other Spells:

4x Boros Charm

4x Mugging (The no block clause has been amazing, especially when my opponent puts out a Griselbrand and I literally say "Nope")

Lands:

9x Mountain

7x Plains

4x Sacred Foundry

Yes it's a lot of Gatecrash stuff. I wasn't around during Innistrad block :<

If there's stuff I can use there then please do tell.

I realise that this is probably a little budget, but I'll give an ideal build anyway. The only reason there's an actual point running Boros is for a few things: Boros Charm, Thalia, Slayer's Stronghold. They're essentially why Boros is even available.

You want to cut down on those silly multicolour creatures. You want your creatures to be as consistent as possible, especially since this is an aggro deck (i.e. Legionnaire, Spark Trooper, Halberdiers). Also, Spark Trooper is entirely not worth playing unless you run it with Silverblade Paladin. Dryad Militant is a strange one, because it really doesn't do much. Ash Zealot does similar and is a generally better creature. Mugging is kinda bad. If they actually manage to get a Griselbrand out, they've probably won anyway, regardless of whether you can swing into them. If it doesn't hit a player, then there's little point. Pillar of Flame and Searing Spear are better options.

And neg everything that doesn't have immediate impact. Exterminator is slow for this deck (because, basically all of the time, it's Stromkirk Noble for one extra mana). Same with Odric and Loyalist.

Boros is essentially Red, with a splash of White. You shouldn't need White that much. Playing white 1-drops is strange, because you will always want double Red quickly. Best 1-drops are basically Stromkirk Noble and Rakdos Cackler. It puts a final build something like:

4 Stromkirk Noble
4 Rakdos Cackler
2 Stonewright
4 Ash Zealot
3 Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
4 Boros Reckoner
4 Hellrider
2 Thundermaw Hellkite

4 Searing Spear
4 Pillar of Flame
3 Boros Charm

4 Sacred Foundry
4 Clifftop Retreat
12 Mountain
1 Slayer's Stronghold
1 Plains

The sideboard, I have no clue. But it would definitely include:

3 Nearheath Pilgrim
1 Boros Charm

Essentially for infinite life when you have Nearheath Pilgrim paired to Reckoner, and use Boros Charm's indestructible mode on Boros Reckoner. Once Reckoner gets attacked, you essentially win against any aggro deck. You can side Frontline Medics.

Budget-wise, Dryad Militant would be your replacement for Ash Zealot, although subpar. You can play Zealous Conscripts over Thundermaw Hellkite, and Sublime Archangels over Hellrider, if you must.

Guess I shouldn't be going competitive then.

Because tbh, I don't like the cards or deck idea you present. The issue is I'm pretty sure I'm not in a place to argue with you whatsoever.

Like, you said playing white 1 drops is strange because I want double red, but my deck's only double red creature is Spark Trooper, which isn't coming out turn 2. So I don't see a problem with how I run them.

Loyalist generally makes plenty impact, giving everything first strike and protection from token chump blockers is usually enough for it, even if it just dies on that swing.

But again, I obviously have different ideas about the game than you, and you're the experienced one. So blegh.

Well, to keep it closer to what your're playing, a proper deck list would go White, splash Red. The deck almost certainly has to play Champion of the Parish though. And certainly 3 Thalia and a playset of Silverblade Paladin. Otherwise, the deck just doesn't win against the quicker aggro decks of the format like Naya Blitz. Note that Spark Trooper. And Silverblade Paladin is a 24 life swing - 12 their way, 12 gained by you. I still wouldn't play that many multicoloured creatures. Especially not without Clifftop Retreat. The mana is far too inconsistent (my replacement for Halberdiers is Thalia, replacement for Legionnaire is Silverblade).

A few things on Goblin Legionist. It's really a Legacy card. Made to work with Goblin Piledriver, because it can pump itself. First strike is pretty bad when you hardly go above 2 power most of the time. Trample literally does nothing when all your creatures are that small. It's the same with the token clause. Only tokens you'll see are Lingering Souls, which don't even see much play anymore this format. Then everything else that could benefit from Legionist doesn't need it. Odric can control blocks fully, so first strike, trample and unblockability is literally useless. Spark Trooper should always have double strike and trample anyway if you play the more consistent Silverblade Paladin.

So my changes would consist of:
- Innistrad mana base (but probably not, because they rotate out in October)
- Halberdiers for Thalia
- Legionnaires for Silverblade
- And probably Foundry Street Denizens and 1 Legion Loyalist for Champion of the Parish, if you ever do buy them.
