Hello, people of YCM. This is my first Yu-gi-oh card, and it's designed to be sort of a counter to XYZ monster-heavy decks. I know it is probably flawed, and criticism is welcome (even if it is bad =P)

Lore: This monster gains 400 ATK & DEF for each Xyz Monster in the Graveyards. Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can pay 500 Life Points; once this turn, this card cannot be destroyed by battle or by the effect of a Trap Card. When this card targets an Xyz Monster with Xyz Materials for an attack: You can select 1 of the target's Xyz Materials; conduct battle between this card and the selected Xyz Material instead (The Xyz Material is considered to be in the same Battle Position as the target and uses its printed ATK or DEF value for this battle. Damage Calculation is applied normally. Spell and Trap Cards are considered to have 0 ATK and 0 DEF). At the end of the Damage Step, if this card battled an Xyz Material using this effect: Destroy the Xyz Monster whose Xyz Material battled this card.

Alright, how does this card work? If the card attacks, and leaves the field somehow, the attack stops. There's no such thing as a successful attack for a card which is no longer on the field. Now, the other part about this is that it's ammune againts Traps, which is alright I suppose, and the boost doesn't do all that much really, as most Decks only get around 1 or 2 maybe, though if it is used in longer games, that boost is quite handy. The main thing is that I don't understand how this works, so please explain that to me.

That wording was a little weird, but what I mean is that you can attack one of the monsters used to XYZ summon the XYZ monster, and attack as if it was still on the field, comparing it's ATK points to Overlay Octopus's ATK points like a normal battle. Even if Overlay Octopus is defeated by battle, you can sacrifice 500 life points to make it not destroyed by the battle. If the attack was successful (i.e, went through without negation like Negate Attack or Magic Cylinder) the XYZ monster is destroyed and so are all of it's materials. Hope that clears things up =P

Oh, I see what you mean. That makes this different from what I thought in the first place. That's an interesting idea, however, it's based on the materials in question still. This card's is not the most splashable in any Deck tbh, so I can't say I would use this, but the idea is pretty neat. If you work an Archetype around it, it could work well.

Yeah, I was thinking of making an archetype. The pay 500 life points to not be destroyed in battle thing was meant to tie in with attacking the materials, and as more XYZ monsters went into the graveyard the more that effect wasn't needed.

I like this idea a fair bit actually.  This would absolutely dismantle rank 5 and under XYZ and would be pretty OP with Extra Gate.  9/10 for the idea and 6/10 for execution.  I think with some polishing you could have a very cool card/archetype.

Okay, that OCG is a mess. Let's try to fix it a little:

You can Normal Summon this card without a Tribute. This monster gains 400 ATK & DEF for each Xyz Monster in the Graveyards. At the end of the Damage Step, if this card battled an Xyz Material using this effect: Destroy the Xyz Monster whose Xyz Material battled this card.

Okay I think that covers everything you failed to cover. It explains exactly what happens and how it happens. It even accounts for non-monster Xyz Materials (from stuff like Xyz Reborn and Spellbook of Miracles). As for the card itself, it's very interesting. It kills Xyz Monsters by killing off their materials. However, its weakness comes in the form of its uselessness in most decks. The only deck that I can see this thing even hurting is Evilswarm. Otherwise it'll probably just be killed or be a terrible dead-draw. The lack of Tribute requirement helps a little but as Zazu pointed out, for the most part this won't get any higher than 2400 ATK max. Also, it has protection from battle and destruction by Trap Cards but Spell Cards and other cards that don't destroy will el-oh-el at this guy. One of my biggest questions is why is this Level 5? If it can be Normal Summoned without Tribute, why bother making it Level 5 in the first place? Due to the way its effect is worded it's a guaranteed kill of any Xyz Monster at the cost of 500 Life Points but it has no redeeming qualities aside from that. It's too strong to recruit, nothing searches it and, like I said it earlier, it lacks utility aside from Xyz centric decks. So you'd have to just hope to draw it and honestly there are better cards that could be run.

First; thanks for the help on the OCG! Also, I originally intended for Overlay Octopus to also have an effect where if it is used to be XYZ summoned the XYZ monster would gain Overlay Octopus's immunity to Traps and Battle, but I didn't put it in. I kept it so it couldn't be recruited, but that's a little underpowered. I might make an archetype revolving around killing XYZ and maybe Synchro monsters as well easily, and maybe turning your opponent's monsters into XYZ/Synchros. But anyways, thanks for your criticism. =D Fixing Overlay Octopus right now, changing it's level to 4 and using the OCG fix.
