Periodic monsters

Hello! This is my first topic here, even though I've been a member for several years now.

A few days ago I came up with an idea for an archetype: discarding cards from your deck when you summon a monster. The idea started simple enough: summon a monster, then discard a card from your deck. But who would do that? Nobody, that's like a -2, just to summon 1 monster from the archetype.
So expanded on the idea; the discarded card would give the summoned monster an effect. That works; you summon a monster and then look through your deck to discard a monster, giving it's effect to the monster you just summoned. I thought that idea was pretty neat, if not somewhat gimmicky. It's kinda like the monsters working together.
But then I started thinking of some possible effects. I quickly realized the monsters you summon would be blank slates; you simply summon a monster to discard the monsters with the effect you need. You don't actually have to draw the cards with the best effects, you can use any other monster. Plus, the monster on the field would have a printed effect, but their actual text would be dictated by a card in the graveyard. It would be a nightmare to keep track of all the effect changes.
By this time I had a theme for the cards that I really liked; atoms (like oxygen and hydrogen) that bond together to form molecules.
I decided to rework my original idea and incorperate the bonding of atoms.
This is what I came up with: Periodic monsters.

When you summon a Periodic monster, you can equip any other Periodic monster to it from either your deck or your hand. A Periodic monster only gets its effect when it is currently equipped with another Periodic monster. Some effects require you to destroy the Periodic monster equipped to it.

These are basically my first attempt at writing Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, so I apologize for any obvious OCG mistakes. Also, if you ever feel the need to correct my English grammar/spelling, please do so.

The Periodic monsters mostly focus on Xyz summoning and equipping Periodic monsters to other Periodic monsters. For easier Xyz Summoning, there are several Periodic monsters with swarming abilities. The first of those is "Periodic Warrior - Nitrogen"

Periodic Warrior – Nitrogen
Level 4
Earth
Warrior/Effect
1700 ATK/1500 DEF
When this card is summoned; you can equip 1 “Periodic” monster to this monster from your hand or deck. This card can only be equipped with 1 “Periodic” card at a time. Once per turn while this card is equipped with a “Periodic” monster: you can destroy "Periodic" monster equipped to this card; Special Summon a “Periodic” monster from your hand or deck.

The basic strategy here is to normal summon Nitrogen, equipping it with any disposable Periodic monster in your hand or deck. Then sacrifice the disposable monster to special summon another Periodic monster, preferably level 4 for easier Xyz summoning. Because you have to sacrifice the monster equipped to Nitrogen, I think the special summoning from the deck is justified.

Periodic Warrior – Selenium
Level 4
Earth
Warrior
1000 ATK/1000 DEF
When this card is summoned; you can equip 1 “Periodic” monster to this monster from your hand or deck. This card can only be equipped with 1 “Periodic” card at a time. Once per turn while this card is  equipped with a “Periodic” monster; you can Special Summon 1 “Periodic” monster from your hand.

If, however, you don't want to sacrifice the monster equipped to your basic level 4 monster, you can always use Selenium. Selenium works just like Nitrogen, but you don't destroy the monster equipped to it, and you only get to special summon from your hand. There are plenty of reasons why you wouldn't want to destroy a monster equipped to a Periodic monster, as we'll see later.

Our third option for giving the deck some speed:

Periodic Warrior – Oxygen
Level 4
Earth
Warrior
0 ATK/0 DEF
When this card is summoned; you can equip 1 “Periodic” monster to this monster from your hand or deck. This card can only be equipped with 1 “Periodic” card at a time. Once per turn while this card is equipped with a “Periodic” monster: you can destroy the “Periodic” monster equipped to this card to banish 1 monster from your graveyard for each of your unoccupied Monster Card Zones; Special Summon 1 “Periodic” monster for each of the banished cards. These monsters can’t be equipped with “Periodic” cards while face-up on the field, and cannot be used as Xyz Materials for an Xyz Summon, except for the Xyz Summon of a “Periodic” monster.

If your graveyard is big enough, you could fill up your entire side of the field. A big downside is that these monsters can't be equipped with Periodic cards while face-up, so they probably never get their effects. Basically, you'll want to use Oxygen to fill your entire field with Periodic monsters, so you can Xyz Summon any Periodic monster.

Because you will be destroying quite a few of your Periodic monsters equipped to other Periodic monsters, you will probably need something to get them back into your deck. Periodic Warrior - Carbon is designed to do just that.

Periodic Warrior – Carbon
Level 4
Earth
Warrior
800 ATK/2000 DEF
When this card is summoned; you can equip 1 “Periodic” monster to this monster from your hand or deck. This card can only be equipped with 1 “Periodic” card at a time. Once per turn while this card is equipped with a “Periodic” monster: target up to 3 “Periodic” monsters in your graveyard; shuffle those targets into your deck.

I based this card on Pot of Avarice, but it lacks the drawing effect, because Periodic monsters allow you to search your deck anyway.

Periodic Warrior – Hydrogen
Level 4
Aqua
Warrior
1500 ATK/1000 DEF
When this card is summoned; you can equip 1 “Periodic” monster to this monster from your hand or deck. This card can only be equipped with 1 “Periodic” card at a time. Once per turn while this card is equipped with a “Periodic” monster: destroy the equipped monster; this card gains 500 ATK and you can equip 1 “Periodic” monster from your hand or deck to any “Periodic” monsters you control.

This card can power itself up, but it's also useful for making sure that your Periodic monsters are equipped with Periodic monsters. I can see this being useful, but it won't win you the duel.

The next two cards serve a similar purpose:

Periodic Warrior – Phosphorus
Level 4
Earth
Warrior
1000 ATK/1000 DEF
When this card is summoned; you can equip 1 “Periodic” monster to this monster from your hand or deck. This card can only be equipped with 1 “Periodic” card at a time. Once per turn while this card is equipped with a “Periodic” monster; “Periodic” monsters equipped to “Periodic” monsters you control cannot be destroyed by card effects of your opponent.

Periodic Warrior – Sulfur
Level 4
Earth
Warrior
1000 ATK/1000 DEF
When this card is summoned; you can equip 1 “Periodic” monster to this monster from your hand or deck. This card can only be equipped with 1 “Periodic” card at a time. While this card is equipped with a “Periodic” monster; if a “Periodic” monster you control would be destroyed; destroy the “Periodic” monster equipped to this monster instead.

That were our basic Periodic monsters. As you can see, they all share the name Periodic Warrior. Our next few monsters instead share a different name; Periodic Nobleman. They are based on the noble gasses, and work slightly different from the Periodic Warriors. Let's take a look at them.

Periodic Nobleman – Helium
Level 3
Wind
Warrior
500 ATK/1000 DEF
When this card is send to the graveyard because the “Periodic” monster it was equipped to was used as an Xyz Material; all Xyz Monsters you currently control gain 300 ATK.

You'll want to equip Helium, and in fact the rest of the Periodic Noblemen, to your Periodic Warriors. You could, for example, normal summon Periodic Warrior - Selenium and equip it with Periodic Nobleman - Helium. Selenium now allows you to Special Summon another Periodic monster from your hand. Choose any level 4 Periodic monster and use it and Selenium to Xyz Summon a rank 4 Xyz Monster, that gains 300 ATK because of Helium.

All Periodic Nobleman are there to support you and your Xyz monsters.

Periodic Nobleman – Neon
Level 3
Wind
Warrior
500 ATK/1000 DEF
When this card is send to the graveyard because the “Periodic” monster it was equipped to was used as an Xyz Material: target 1 “Periodic” Xyz Monster you control; attach this card it as an Xyz Material.

Periodic Nobleman – Argon
Level 3
Wind
Warrior
500 ATK/1000 DEF
When this card is send to the graveyard because the “Periodic” monster it was equipped to was used as an Xyz Material: you can target 1 “Periodic” Xyz Monster you control; draw cards equal to its rank, and if you do, discard cards from your hand equal to its rank.

Periodic Nobleman – Krypton
Level 3
Wind
Warrior
500 ATK/1000 DEF
When this card is send to the graveyard because the “Periodic” monster it was equipped to was used as an Xyz Material: you can target 1 card your opponent controls; destroy that target.

Periodic Nobleman – Xenon
Level 3
Wind
Warrior
500 ATK/1000 DEF
When this card is send to the graveyard because the “Periodic” monster it was equipped to was used as an Xyz Material: target 1 “Periodic” Xyz Monster you control; this turn, if it attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict Piercing Battle Damage to your opponent.

Periodic Nobleman – Radon
Level 3
Wind
Warrior
500 ATK/1000 DEF
When this card is send to the graveyard because the “Periodic” monster it was equipped to was used as an Xyz Material: you can target 1 “Periodic” Xyz Monster you control; this turn it’s attack is doubled during Damage Calculation only.

As you can see, the Periodic archetype is centered around Xyz Summoning. While you can Xyz Summon any Xyz Monster (except when using Oxygen), there is a set of Xyz Monster specifically designed to work with the Periodic monsters: the Periodic Lords.

Periodic Lord C6H12O6 – Sugar Queen
Rank 4
Light
Warrior/Xyz
2000 ATK/3000 DEF
3 level 4 “Periodic” monsters
Once per turn; you can detach 1 Xyz Material or destroy 1 “Periodic” monster you control that is equipped to a “Periodic” monster you control to target up to 5 “Periodic” cards in your graveyard; shuffle them into your deck. While equipped with a “Periodic” monster; you can attach that monster to this card as an Xyz Material. This card can only be equipped with 1 “Periodic” card at a time.

Sugar Queen has the same role as Periodic Warrior - Carbon: getting Periodic monsters in your graveyard back into your deck. It allows you to this quite a few times.

Periodic Lord H2O – Clear Heart
Rank 4
Water
Warrior/Xyz
2000 ATK/2000 DEF
2 level 4 “Periodic” monsters
Once per turn while this card is equipped with a “Periodic” monster: target 1 “Periodic” monster you control that has no “Periodic” card equipped to it; equip a “Periodic” monster to that target from your hand or deck. Once per turn: you can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card. If this card has no Xyz Materials; equip this card to a “Periodic” monster you control that has no “Periodic” cards equipped to it or destroy this card. A “Periodic” monster equipped with this card cannot be destroyed. This card can only be equipped with 1 “Periodic” card at a time.

This card is mostly there to make sure that your Periodic monsters are always equipped with another Periodic monster.

Periodic Lord C2H6O – Intoxin
Rank 4
Dark
Warrior/Xyz
3000 ATK/2000 DEF
3 level 4 “Periodic” monsters
Once per turn: you can destroy a “Periodic” monster you control that is equipped to a “Periodic” monster you control; this card gains ATK equal to the destroyed monster’s original attack until the End Phase of this turn. Once per turn: you can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card to target 1 face-up “Periodic” monster you control that has no “Periodic” card equipped to it; equip the detached Xyz Material to that target. This card can only be equipped with 1 “Periodic” card at a time.

Intoxin is probably how you'll win the duel. With 3000 attack, it's a quite respectable beater, but it's attack keeps getting higher. It has no use for its Xyz Materials, so instead it lets you give them back to your other Periodic monsters.

There are a few spell and trap cards that support the Periodic archetype:

Unstable Mending of the Periodic Table
Spell
Equip
A “Periodic” monster you control equipped with this card can attack your opponent directly. Destroy this card and the monster equipped with it during the End Phase of the turn you activated this card.

Equipped with this card, Intoxin becomes a beast. Note that when you equip a spell or trap card to your Periodic monsters, you can't equip them with Periodic monsters, so they don't get their effects. (Periodic monsters can only be equipped with 1 Periodic card at a time, but their effects need Periodic monsters to activate.)

Mending of the Periodic Table
Spell
Target 1 “Periodic” monster in your graveyard; Special Summon that target.

Basically a themed Monster Reborn. After using this card, you will be able to equip a Periodic monster you just summoned.

Emergency Mending of the Periodic Table
Trap
Continuous
Equip 1 face-up “Periodic” monster you control to another face-up “Periodic” monster you control.
