Tirasa
Alright, second thread, sixth or so card. I really like this thing, but I can't figure out how to balance it. ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ LIGHT Beast / Effect This card is also treated as a Thunder-type monster. This card can be Special Summoned from your hand while "Mountain" is active, or by Tributing 1 or more monsters you control. Once per turn, when a monster would be Special Summoned, you can discard one Beast-type or Thunder-type monster from your hand to negate the Summon and destroy that card. If the combined Levels of the monsters Tributed to Summon this card equals 8, you can attach those monsters to this card; it is treated as a Rank 8 Xyz Monster as long as it remains face-up on the field. Hippocampus
Well first of all, the summoning condition is a bit odd. Either you can Tribute 2 monsters, or you can play it for free while Mountain is on the field, is that right? I mean I like it because it forces you to play Mountain, but the 2 Tributes thing is a bit strange especially for a Special Summon (not to mention underpowered), so you may drop that and say it can only be Summoned while Mountain is in play. The negation effect seems fine, just because you've set it once per turn and I can't think of any Beast or Thunder monsters that could combo off of being banished (oh, well Dark Desertapir is one). What I don't understand is why it needs to be an Xyz monster. Is that just for aesthetics? It's kind of odd, and also surprisingly restricting. Very rarely do you Tribute a Level 5 or higher monster, and the only other way to get Levels equal 9 would be to Normal Summon it, which is a -2. Unless you have some specific combo in mind here, I'd drop the condition to make it an Xyz monster and just have it as a beatstick tech card. 2900 is real powerful anyway. Hope this helps. Tirasa
Thanks for the review. Well, the Mountain bit was admittedly thrown in, since I'd remembered that card while working on this one. As far as the Xyz bit is concerned, I'd been thinking about starting a miniset of Effect monsters that can transform into Xyz under the correct Summoning conditions, though you're certainly right about this particular set being a bit UP. Xyz just allowed for detach effects via spells and the like. It's something that has intrigued me, but I certainly haven't mastered. Perhaps to make this Special Summoned by Tributing 1 or more monsters, and drop this to level 8? Then the effect can just be that it the total level equals 8, which could be a few level 8 monsters /or/ two level 4, which would make it the equivalent of an overlay. I wasn't sure about combo potential for banishing, but that can easily be discarding instead. The boards are really quiet here; thanks for the review, and I'll begin to modify the card accordingly. Tirasa
Along with those modifications, I'm going to put together a Field Spell to replace the function of Mountain. Thunderbeast as an archetype is considerably easier to find images for than Crystal Pixies, which are about to be updated with written cards. Therrion
Interesting piece all together, time to disect after a OCG fix. My review will be based upon the fixed OCG, so if I fix an effect (mostly aiming this at the SS negation) and it has different meaning then what you wanted, then tell me (I'm thinking Black Horn, you may be thinking Solemn Warning). This card is also treated as a Thunder-Type monster. If you control "Mountain", you can Special Summon this card (from your hand). You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) by Tributing 1 or more monsters, then if the combined Levels of the monsters Tributed to Summon this card equals 8, you can attach those monsters to this card; it is treated as a Rank 8 Xyz Monster as long as it remains face-up on the field. Once per turn, when a monster would be Special Summoned: You can discard 1 card; negate the Special Summon, and if you do, destroy it. I can't think of any specific uses, but that doesn't make this card not good. A once per turn negater of inherant Summons is nothing to call weak, especially for such strength and easy Summoning conditions. Seriously, a Normal Summon, Tribute, Special Summon is fast and puts immense pressure early on your opponent via Black Horn on a 2900 Beatstick. In most cases, in the actual games case (meaning not your archetype I don't know about yet) the reaching of Rank 8 status matters not, and thus most of the time will just be a -1 upon Summon. An interesting approach at an old Field Spell, and the mechanic of becoming Rank 8 sounds like you're going to be making a pretty interesting archetype come here soon. If you meant for a Warning-esque effect rather than Black Horn, then I will suggest that shouldn't be the case as that'd be too powerful and that you should go for a Horn effect for balance purposes. Nice work Tirasa. ^^

Picture: 9 Card's effect: 43 Card's balance: 33 Atk & Def: 19 View: 19 *OVERALL: 5/10* Suggested effect: This card is also treated as a Thunder-type monster. If there is a face-up “Mountain” on the field: You can special summon this card(from your hand). Once per turn, when a monster would be Special Summoned, you can discard one Beast-type or Thunder-type monster from your hand; negate the Summon. Tirasa
Thanks for the reviews, you two. Set construction for Mountain Beasts is currently paused to rework Crystal Pixies; to have as little experience facing Spellbooks and Fire Fists, I think my Spell Control theme has turned into something terribly designed and hateful. I'll get back to this in time, but I really want Pixies to be a good Archetype first.
