Cocodomoco
The name of this is because i don't know what section to put this in... So i haven't played yu gi oh in like years. like 2-4 years idk exactly haha. My last deck is like a crystal beast deck and half a blackwing deck with no synchros. So clearly i need to update my knowledge of the new meta decks and make a meta deck or something. But i also dont know where to play. I have no friends that play in fact i would hear endless torment if they knew i wanted to play. So i was wondering if anyone knew if there are things like yu gi oh's equivalent to magic the gatherings friday night magic? like do most local card shops do some sort of weakly play thing? also if anyone wants to PM me and try to help me update myself on meta decks maybe give me some recommendations. Zauls
Well you have come back at an interesting time. The game was broken by Dragon Rulers and the new January banlist has murdered them and not done that much else. The game is a lot more versatile and fun without them. The meta is still not set in stone and there have been no YCS events for us to see how well each deck does. We can use logic to deduce that the meta will possibly pertain to the following: Tier 1: Geargia Constellar Bujin Fire Fist Mermail Tier 2: Blackwing Lightsworn Evilswarm Fire King Spellbooks/Prophecy Zombies T.G. Stun Gravekeepers Tier 3 is pretty irrelevant, but right now I suppose you could say Madolches are there as well as stuff like Chain Beat and Wind-Ups. I might have missed some of these out and nobody really knows where everything will be placed Tier-wise. Just research these decks for decklists and maybe watch some duel videos on Youtube. It will help you understand how each deck is played. And yes, most card shops will have regular Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments. I believe Konami has a list of official tournaments on their website. The list isn't exhaustive, so just googling it might be helpful I suppose. Oh, and you might want to read up on what an Xyz Monster is.

Dog King
I don't see Heraldic Beasts on that list anywhere. HAVE YOU SEEN THEIR LVAL SUPPORT?! the deck never really topped anything before so how could he tell if they will be good or not and also lval is only going to come out in like half way during the format for tcg so its not relevant atm

玄魔の王
I don't see Heraldic Beasts on that list anywhere. HAVE YOU SEEN THEIR LVAL SUPPORT?! You mean their support which is entirely exclusive to Japan? Forgive him for not applying it to the TCG Tiers list.
Cocodomoco
Ok that tier list was helpful. And im familiar with Xyz. Ive been playing yu gi oh on line for the past few days. I actually hate what the game has become. Too much happens in one turn. Games are too short now. It is easy to win very quickly. Everyone plays the same few decks. Arc types bore me. You should have played in Dragon Ruler/Spellbook format... The game is fantastic right not compared to that, which is saying something. I also think Archetypes are boring and bad for the game. There should be much less of them.
goddamnit names are a pain
I also think Archetypes are boring and bad for the game. There should be much less of them. I'm slightly confused. If you are not playing archetypes, are you not just playing Random.dek? I mean, it requires more combos and such, but decks fluidity goes very low when you are playing cards that have no relation just to make a "play." I feel archetypes are needed in the game, just not the way Konami started doing Xyz.

I feel archetypes are needed in the game, just not the way Konami started doing Xyz. They aren't. Back in the days of Chaos Return, the defining Decks of the format were not members of supported archetypes. They were worthwhile cards that happened to synergize with other cards. Granted, one of the cards they had to synergize with was Return, but you could run stuff like Ojama Trio because it would seldom reward your opponent. You can no longer build a worthwhile Deck out of high-utility, low-synergy parts because there are too many enormous Xyz/Synchro explosions you could make with an archetype. The "fluidity" you are talking about did not exist back then - something like Maxx "C" would have been useless because there was nothing efficient enough for it to shadow. Today KONAMI is a happy mom if you interact with your opponent at all before the Battle Phase. Fire Fist - Bear is designed to be balanced against "fluid" Decks, and it would rape something as slow as Chaos Return.

Yeah, but those formats weren't all sun and rainbows either. There were awesome formats like Goat Control, yes, but Yata Lock format was atrocious.
