Mime Monsters

So, I finally managed to fix my Yugico links, and I wanted to share with you guys my Mimichrome monsters. I made these last year as a part of a contest, and it never really went anywhere. Even though I didn't finish the archetype, and don't really have the willpower to do so, I was sad that a winner was never declared. Still, I finished all the monsters, and I'd like to put them back up in this section. Feel free to comment and lend criticism, but I'm not planning on really editing these guys any more than I already have, other than finally drawing images for the spells and traps. This is really just to finally share with you some of my old cards. Ego stroking, you know?

The archetype I came up with for the contest were the Mimichrome monsters, a group of WIND Psychic-type monsters with a mime theme. All Mimichrome monsters have DEF higher than their ATK, and their effects focus on switching their stats, and/or those of the opponent's monsters to get an edge on the battlefield. There are 2 Normal monsters, 2 Gemini monsters (the Gemini monsters are also Tuners), 1 Effect monster, and 2 Synchro monsters. All Mimichrome monsters are black and white, except for their eyes (or other facial features I felt like coloring in) and the image backgrounds. I also added some fun background into their images: From the first monster (Wallflower) to the last Monster (Sadsack), they become progressively less humanoid and more monstrous and otherworldly. They also transit from purple background (Wallflower has the highest base ATK and violet is the strongest color on the visible spectrum) to red (Sadsack has almost the worst base ATK, and red is the weakest visible color). Each monster is named after a slang term for a different personality type. All in all, this was a lot of fun to do. Their spells and traps don't follow a specific strategy, but some of them focus on interfering with spells and effect monsters. I didn't want any of their effects to maliciously harm the opponent, and instead focus on Normal Monster support and stat switching. In this way, their archetypal theme focuses on being unassuming mimes (normal monsters) before they reveal their true colors, pun intended, and either switch their ATK and DEF for massive damage or summon their Synchro monsters to mess with the stability of the field.
270822.jpg
1 "Mimichrome" Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters.
Once per turn: You can reveal 1 card in your hand; look at 1 face-down card on your opponent's field, 1 card in their hand, or the top card of their Deck. While you control no face-down monsters, this card's original ATK and DEF are switched. When a face-up "Mimichrome" monster attacks or is attacked: You can target it; reveal the top three cards of your Deck and send them to the bottom of your Deck to switch the original ATK and DEF of the targeted monster.
271204.jpg
When this card is Summoned, both players can add 1 Normal Monster from their Deck to their hand. While this card is face-up on your field, your opponent cannot target face-up "Mimichrome" monsters you control for attacks, except this one. When this card is destroyed: You can switch the original ATK and DEF of 1 face-up monster on the field.

271212.jpg
1 "Mimichrome" Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters.
This card cannot be Special Summoned by the effects of Spell or Trap Cards. This card's ATK and DEF cannot be increased (its ATK and DEF can still be decreased or switched). During each of your Standby Phases: Declare either Ritual Monster, Xyz Monster, Fusion Monster, or Synchro Monster; until your next Draw Phase, neither player can Summon a monster of the declared card type. If this card is destroyed by battle; Special Summon it in face-up Attack Position during the End Phase, and switch the original ATK an DEF of 1 other face-up "Mimichrome" monster on the field until your next Draw Phase.

275393.jpg
This card is treated as a Normal Monster while face-up on the field, in your hand, or in the Graveyard. While this card is face-up on the field, you can Normal Summon it to have it become an Effect Monster with this effect:

• Once per turn, when the ATK and DEF of a "Mimichrome" monster switches, you can Special Summon 1 Normal "Mimichrome" monster from your hand; you cannot Tribute monsters until your next End Phase.

275406.jpg
This card is treated as a Normal Monster while face-up on the field, in your hand, or in the Graveyard. While this card is face-up on the field, you can Normal Summon it to have it become an Effect Monster with this effect:

• Once per turn, you can switch the original ATK and DEF of 1 face-up "Mimichrome" monster you control until the End Phase. When this card is destroyed, you can switch the original ATK and DEF of 1 face-up monster your opponent controls.

"Silent Stage" (Field Spell Card): This card can only be activated when there is a face-up "Mimichrome" monster on the field. The turn player cannot activate Spell Cards. While the controller of this card controls 2 or more face-up "Mimichrome" monsters, the effects of all Spell Cards and Effect Monsters are negated. When this card is destroyed, both players can Special Summon 1 Normal Monster from their hand.

"Worrisome White Mask" (Equip Spell Card): Switch the original ATK and DEF of the equipped monster. If the equipped monster is a "Mimichrome" monster: when the equipped monster is destroyed, you can equip this card to another face-up monster on the field.

"Whimsical White Mask" (Quick-Play Spell Card): Increase the original DEF of all face-up "Mimichrome" monsters by 1000. When a monster affected by this card is destroyed, inflict 1000 points of damage to its controller's Life Points. During either player's Battle Phase, you can banish this card in your Graveyard; switch the original ATK and DEF of 1 face-up "Mimichrome" monster you control until the End Phase.

"Invisible Invincible Box" (Quick-Play Spell Card): Monsters cannot declare attacks until your next End Phase. Both players can draw cards up to the number of face-up "Mimichrome" monsters on the field.

"Silent Subtitles" (Continuous Trap Card): While you control a face-up "Mimichrome" monster; the activation and effects of Spell Cards you control cannot be negated. When a Spell Card you control is destroyed by an opponent's card effect, you can destroy this card. When this card is destroyed, you can add 1 Spell Card from your Graveyard to your hand, and add 1Normal Monster from your Deck to your hand.

"Might of the Mimic" (Normal Trap Card): Send 1 card from your hand or field to the Graveyard; switch the original ATK and DEF of a face-up "Mimichrome" Monster.

"Invincible Invisible Wall" (Normal Trap Card): Activate only when an opponent's monster declares an attack while you control a face-up "Mimichrome" monster. Negate the attack and end the Battle Phase. During the End Phase of the turn you activated this card, Special Summon 1 Normal "Mimichrome" monster from your hand in face-up Attack Position.

"Oath of Silence" (Counter Trap Card): When a "Mimichrome" monster you control is destroyed, switch the original ATK and DEF of all face-up monsters on the field until the End Phase. During your next Main Phase, you can Special Summon 1 "Mimichrome" monster from your hand or Graveyard with a level equal to or less than the number of monsters that were affected by this card's effect.
So, that should be it. I don't know if I'll ever draw images for the spells and traps, but I'm at least happy to give this archetype another look-over. Hope you guys enjoy the idea. It was a lot of fun to come up with, even if the contest ultimately didn't go anywhere. I promise I'll never do such a thing with any of my contests. Thanks for visiting – comment and enjoy!

Thank you! Gadfly took me the longest to think of a design for, while Troll took the longest to finally get right. Still, they were really fun to draw. Troll was tricky to come up with an effect for, as a monster that had to evoke hated internet troll influences as much as possible.
