VictorSempra
So, since I am so utterly fascinated by this game, I thought I'd make a thread on it. The game is called Smash Up. When you buy the game, you are given 8 "themed" decks of twenty cards, a stack of "base" cards, and a sheet of Victory tokens. The basic themes are: Ninjas Pirates Dinosaurs Robots Aliens Wizards Zombies Tricksters You take two of these themes (which have different playing styles, such as wizards giving extra actions, or ninjas letting you play cards at the last possible second), shuffle them together, and get ready to play with your friends! The goal of the game is to earn points by "blowing up" bases. You are allowed one action, and allowed to play one minion per turn (unless the cards say otherwise). By using varying combinations of cards, you much reach the "breaking point" of a base. Whoever has the most power via minions on the base, generally wins the most points from it. If this explanation isn't doing it for you, here's Wil Wheaton to explain it like a professional: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZpMEVQYBO8 Now, here's my favorite tidbit: Alderac Games has had such success with it, there are currently three official expansions, with another coming this fall, along with a collector's box. The first expansion is Epic Level 9000, which adds four new themes: Bear Cavalry, Ghosts, Plants, and Steam Punk. The second? Obligatory Cthulhu set! With Miskatonic Researchers, Elder Things, Innsmouth Locals, and Servants of Cthulhu. Numero three (and quite possibly my personal favorite): Mystery Science Double Feature. All those cheesy B movies you grew up on, in card form! Spies, Cyborg Apes, Shapeshifters, and Time Travelers! Now here comes the super-special fun: The collector's box. It's not a full set, but literally, a box. It's bigger than the regular game box, allowing for multiple sets/expansions to be properly sorted inside of it, and also comes with TWO bonuses! One, a special theme called 'Geeks', starring our very own King of the Nerds (Wil Wheaton) along with various bits and ends from the Tabletop Youtube series. (In fact, the Tabletop board there is one of the base cards.) The second! And it took a bit to catch this one, is hidden on the box cover itself. Alderac left this hint on the collector's box page:And if you look closely, you might even see a little preview of our fall expansion the cover! A fourth expansion...hm...let's look at the box:http://www.alderac.com/smashup/2014/04/10/smash-big-geeky-box-coming-august/ Now, as an experienced player, I only spot one area that's wrong. Just to the right of the logo. Silly ALderac, there's no Werewolves and Elvira-esque monst- OHHHH, very sneaky. :) So, enough of my aimless ramblings. If you live near a game shop, I would suggest at lest seeing if they have a demo version to try out, because this is AMAZINGLY fun.
Kazooie
I remember watching this a while back. I would love to play this game sometime. It really does seem like a load of fun, I just wish we had a game shop here. x-x
