Life Point Gain.dek.

Recommended Posts

The idea behind this deck is simple. Part of it is for a story I'm writing, part of it is to make a deck that deals with life point gain. Due to life point gain not being a common deck, I'm not exactly sure how much is enough to make it a good deck, and how much would be considered OP. It's supposed to be a control deck, gaining life points, stalling, and then finally winning the game with the XYZ that gain attack points based on how much life you have.

Also, when I try to post the actual pic, the site says I'm not allowed to post that kind of picture here? What am I doing wrong?

Perhaps post the full images in the spoilers rather then the link (so we do not have to click the links to read the effects each time) as well as post the effects in spoilers as well? Mermaid Queen - Melody and Maria have the same effect? There are also a couple of grammatical errors here and there (like the capitalization of Special Summon, Graveyard, Spell/Trap, Life Points, e.t.c) and the appropriate term is ATK and not attack (attack is the act of your monster attacking).

Mermaid Queen - Ariel
2 Level 4 "Mermaid" monsters
Once per turn, if your opponent activates a card effect, pay 1000 life points to negate that effect. negate that effect, and pay 1000 life points. You can detach one XYZ material from this card to Special Summon that card from your Graveyard. You take 1000 damage. (The cost for the effect should come before the negation, also, the last wording for Ariels effect is confusing? It suggests you would Special Summon the negated card[??])
Mermaid Idol - Elincia
Once per turn, you can gain 400 Life Points for every "Mermaid" monster you control, OR every "Mermaid" monster in your Graveyard. If you gained 1600 or more Life Points this way, this card gains 1000 ATK.

Illyana effect seems to be heavily gimmicky to pull off, even in a full 'Life Point' gain Deck (especially due to the Mermaids low stats). Maybe lower the amount to easier standards (like 9000-10,000 or less so that if say, an opponent were to use Upstart Goblin, her effect would immediately become live).
I suggest you re-word 'Aquarian Equestrian' with a once per turn effect, and/or a maximum cost limit, because it suggests you can continuously pay Life Points to increase the ATK/DEF of the equipped monster and can be a 1 card OTK.

Technically there already is a "Dramitic Rescue" card for Amazoness archetype (Trap Card).

Also, most of the Spell/Trap card support has blank types.

Other than the above fixes, the card art is lovely and the concept is neat (The last time I saw a Life Gain deck involved using fairies and Fountain in the Sky)

Further testing of the actual deck indicates that Ariel is BUSTED AS SH** and needs to be nerfed somehow. The other problem card seems to be Elincia. Since the deck is so good at stalling, it's not uncommon for her to get up to... I dunno, 9,000, 10,000 attack.

Other testing indicates that there are a few ways to win. Spam Ariel and OTK with three of her and an Elincia. Stall, and gain MASSIVE LP boosts. I one time had over 45,000 life points when I summoned Maria, which meant her attack was around 37,000 ATK. Not to mention that she gave another unit 37,000 attack.

Maybe I should make Elincia's attack bonus last until the end of the opponent's next turn, or perhaps increase by increments of 500...

Not quite sure how to deal with Maria's attack power... I think I may decrease Ariel's attack to something where it can't OTK, maybe something < 1500...

Not sure what you were trying to accomplish with the wording of Maria's effect 'gains ATK equal to your Life Points -8000'. I highly suggest you make Ariels 'cost' much higher because based on most of these effects, added to the fact there are plenty of Life Gain cards to trigger their effects way to easily, the cost definitely needs to be 2000+ or more. (note: opponent's does not need a capital, and you state 1 instead of 'one'). Also, Melody and Maria have the first same effect? Maybe only have one of them have the ATK gain (to keep it more unique; Something along the lines of "Once per turn, during either player's turn, if your Life Points are higher than your opponent's, you can detatch 1 Xyz Material from this card; This card gains ATK equal to the difference, until the End Phase), and possibly change their secondary effects to "Once per turn" otherwise you have card's like Loreli and Melody who can use their effect's multiple times with no negative repercussions.

To balance out Elincia, make it so she only gains 1000 ATK until the End Phase.

Mermaid's Playfullness seems really busted for an effect that is really easy to trigger (I like the concept as it shutdowns Decks hard, but the mass negation seems a bit iffy I dont know)

Serena should say draw '1' card, not 'a' card.

For Faria she should be re-worded to:

If you control a face-up "Mermaid" monster, you can target 1 of those "Mermaid" monsters you control, and Special Summon this card (from your hand) by gaining Life Points equal to half that target's ATK. If you gained 800 or less Life Points this way, destroy 1 set card on the field. Your opponent cannot activate card effects in response to this effect. [This makes her effect a little more live, especially with all the boosts you have going for them, and it makes the wording a little easier to understand]

Peace Phermones should be re-worded:

Monsters with 2000 or more ATK cannot declare an attack. If this card would be destroyed by a card effect, you can pay 1500 Life Points instead. During your opponent's turn, while they are in their Main Phase 1 or Battle Phase, if this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard by a card effect; It becomes their End Phase.

So far I really like the Field Spell and Wishful Thinking (which is probably one of the better counter traps involved with Life Points that is not Solemn Duo) I will make more comments about edits after another update. This set seems very promising.
