I need some feedback from the YGO community.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I'm sorry if this isn't technically okay here, but I'm looking to get some feedback on various different sites to see what people actually would like to see.

So, for those of you who don't know (and also the reason for my inactivity lately), a couple of friends of mine and myself have launched a YouTube Channel.  For the sake of avoiding this thread coming across as blatant advertising, I'm not going to post the link here, however I will if anyone is interested in seeing it.

Anyway, we do all TCG-related things from YGO, Pokemon, HeroClix, MTG, and others.  We do openings, analysis, etc.  We're relatively new but we just got offered a contract from Freedom Studios, which is owned by Disney, and so now we're actually getting paid for the content we produce.

Without rambling on for too long, we're looking to expand beyond just doing openings and stuff and so we kind of came up with a spreadsheet of some ideas for new web shows and I'm looking to see what kind of things people are interested in seeing.

"Pack" in Review: A rough idea, but basically a show that would be twice a week and would see the analysis, review, and historical contributions to the game as a whole, i.e. what cards there have made a significant impact and how the set is overall.  Probably around 8-10 minutes in length, and might feature openings as well just to kind of "add" to the context.  Not necessarily just YGO, either.

TCGNews: The name sucks, I get that.  It's not finalized by a long-shot.  But basically, it would be a once-a-week show that covers everything in the news of the past week.  Possible topics include Meta-Decks that have performed at tournaments, set releases, show/movie related things, video game related, etc.  Basically an "entertaining" news show that covers a variety of TCG-related topics.

Board Game/TCG VS: A competition style show that sees members of our staff face off against each other in various games, whether it be board games (Similar to TableFlip, but with our own twist), YGO, HeroClix games, things like that.  Including also random draft openings and give-aways as well.

Investment Analysis: A "stock" market style show in which we talk about things that have started to see a rise in price or a decline, with suggested investments on what to buy and what to get rid of, etc.  Things that might have potential to go up and covering reprints and stuff like that, too.

Competitive and Casual Deck Spotlights: Some of our viewer feedback surveys have suggested things like this, they want to see profiles and stuff of Tier 1 level Decks and analysis plus other Decks that maybe aren't that high level.  We're also working on getting some guests involved in this too, assuming the idea were to take off.

So yeah, I'd love some feedback from the community! :)

Thanks guys<3

the pack review idea is really good, i've never seen it done before and it seems interesting and informative as what packs stuff came from has always interested me and a lot of people, myself included, have incomplete knowledge on it.

the investment analysis is really interesting too if you can pull it off which is kinda difficult because you could potentially lose your credibility very fast if you make a wrong call, as i don't know you i'm assuming you're experienced enough.

the other ideas don't fill me with glee the way the two i mentioned do but they're all solid enough ideas that i'd be inclined to watch if they were done well, but they seem a bit more standard. in all honesty tho i would be interested in all 5 of the ideas.

The Pack Review is the one we've done the most planning with, but things like that take time and we're still waiting to get the rest of the studio set-up for recording so I still have some time to finalize that.  The Investment one seems to be popular with multiple people, because the other sites I've posted this one have said similar things as well.  It's not necessarily easy to do, but if we weren't directly saying one thing and more so just talking about things that have potential or things that have started to show rise, rather than flat-out saying "buy this" or "buy that".

The idea is to essentially get two shows selected and add them to our line-up of openings and things like that.  We're more or less working to post six videos a week as that's the way to best adhere to the terms of the contract, too.

is there a reason you're not covering ocg?

We're not excluding it.  I should have probably mentioned that in the opening, but TCG/OCG are more or less under the same banner in terms of what we'll talk about.

Pack Review seems quirky and interesting.

Board Game/TCG VS is a good idea if you are

A  super-noobs or

B  grandmasters,

but not anything in between or it's no fun to watch.

If you made TCGNews thorough enough to take up the whole channel a la Surrender at 20 I would watch the hell out of it. There's so much info about Championship Decklists and stuff that I miss out on because I don't have time to scour the Official Blog for relevant information.

The board game thing would definitely be something we'd have to experiment with.  We've got a decent supply of games like Cards Against Humanity, King of Tokyo, Arkham Horror, etc. plenty of games that would be compelling as videos, I believe, but it's definitely not the "favorite" based on surveys I've done, so I'm probably going to hold off on it for now.

The Pack Review is something I really want to do, and I'd probably do it in "Seasons", though how I'd break it down I'm not 100% sure yet.

TCGNews has been officially confirmed and we actually have a couple of our writers officially developing it.
