The 12 Muses and The 12 Major Chords (Idea)

This idea would to have 12 "Muse" monsters, each one based on a different musical note. (A, B, B flat, etc.)

This monsters would be basic in and of themselves, but they would be able to use their special abilities together by forming "Major Chords". C Muse would have an ability to let you "Form the C Chord" to activate her ability.

Let's say you have you have the C Muse, E Muse, and G Muse in your graveyard. By removing the 3 from your graveyard, you can activate C Muse's special ability. Let's be uncreative and say it deals 1000 points of damage to your opponent.

Now, this can't be done with just any three Muses. There are only 12 different chords, one for each musical note. The C Chord is comprised of the C , E, and G notes, so C Muses effect can only be activated with those 3 Muses. This way, there is one effect for every Major Chord.

I hope this isn't too confusing.

Hi!

It sounds nice :D good idea! I believe that adding exactly the 12 notes may be confusing or difficult to handle, mainly because of the wide of Harmony itself unless you restrict it to just one type of Chord, just as you considered with the Major triads. I believe you could expand to minor and even dominant chords, you could add 7º as a "extra" but not necessary effect. For example:

I think you could form triads trough the effect of Spell cards, a Spell of Major Chord where you could use C E G as tribute or banish cards (or E G# B, whatever you want). In the other hand, you could be using C Eb G to perform a minor chord, in that case you would need a Spell card of Minor Chord. To take this to a higher level you could activate incredible powerful effects by succeeding in a "Imperfect Authentic Cadence" Spell or Trap card, you should activate a Dominant Major Chord and then a Major (or minor) Chord as a resolution. Take as an example:  1.- G B D F; 2.- C Eb G (V - i)

And in the case of activating a "Perfect Authentic Cadence" you would need just one extra note (another C Muse): 2.- C Eb G C

You could activate a Deceptive (Interrupted) cadence too: 1.- G B D F; 2.- A C E  (V - vi) and design a Trap card for this effect.

Those examples are taking the idea too further and I am just throwing thoughts :) So.. If you are planing to get this Muse Idea going on I will support you completely :D

It would be very interesting to add even a third cord in the chord sequence, as a IV - V - I as a major effect, but it just seems a bit complicated :(

NOTE: I talked about the Major and Minor Chords distinction thinking on the fact that those are just Intervals and the effects of C Muse and G Muse (for example) would be the same by being completed by their followed notes. What I mean is that having C major and F major and Db major, etc would be the same than having 7 C Majors (because the intervals) unless you got a specifically different effect for each "Leader Note" or Tonic. Example:

C MUSE: Remove this card from the field/Graveyard along with "E MUSE" and "G MUSE" to Inflict 1500 points to your opponent.
D MUSE: Remove this card from the field/Graveyard along with "F# MUSE" and "A MUSE" to increase your Life Points by 1500.
Eb MUSE: Remove this card from the field/Graveyard along with "G MUSE" and "Bb MUSE" to draw 3 card from your deck, then discard 1 card.

Another option is making XYZ or Fusion monsters created from specific notes (a fusion of "C", "E", "G" would be C Major) and so on.
You could have the Major and the Minor chords as a first instance. Inclusive you could include equip cards as "Chords Extensions" (add9º, add11º, Maj7º, minor 7º) so those monsters would get an ATK or effect boost. For example:

Minor 7º card: Equip this card to a "Chord" monster on your side of the field. The selected monster cannot be destroyed by battle.

Add9ª card: Equip this card to a "Chord" monster on your side of the field. Increase the ATK and DEF of the selected monster by 1000 points.

and.. as Traps maybe:

Sus2º card: If a "Chord" monster you control would be destroyed by battle or a card effect: Remove that monster from the field. Special Summon that "Chord" monster to your side of the field at the End Phase, then destroy 1 card on the field.

Well, I leave you this ideas here! and I hope to see this "MUSE" cards as soon as possible! I hope you come with a nice and fun playing style! And as a musician I find this very interesting and fun to play with! :D

Good Luck! Go on with the idea! :)

Oh god. I'm sorry, I'm not a music major. I just took high school band, so I have a solid grasp on the basics but not much else. So I'm afraid I got almost nothing from your post after the the first few paragraphs.

But honestly, I really wished they did something along these lines more often in Yugioh. All the archetypes feel exactly the same; the fantasia monsters, for example, are like this but play like any other archetype.

I'll work on it soon.
