Astral Vortex (First posted card)

After lurking around for a while and having fun creating a bunch of cards I thought that I would try posting one here. Out of the 100+ cards only a few have images. This one seemed like a good first post.

Astral Vortex: Quick Play Spell

Lore: Target 1 face-up Spell/Trap card on the field; return it to the bottom of the owner's Deck. Then return this card to the bottom of the Deck. You can only activate one "Astral Vortex" per turn.

I have a selection of cards that are built around sending things to the bottom of the deck, and shuffling the deck. Unlike mystical space typhoon this sends a card to the bottom of the deck instead of the graveyard, and only works on face up cards. If a deck is full of searching and/or reshuffling, cards sent to the bottom of the deck can be recovered quicker.

[edit, fixed up the wording a bit, and added the once per turn clause]

Hmm, by chaining this card i could save my Gates of Dark World from my opponent's MST/Dust Tornado/Twister and then i will have the chance to search for it again with snoww. So maybe for Side Deck. Also it helps enough when your opponent activates a Fiendish Chain (etc). But i think for Main Deck, people will prefer MST or Forbidden Lance.

Thanks.

As a straight forward spell/trap destruction card it is weaker than MST, as it should be. However the ability to send cards to the bottom of the deck (including your own) is pretty useful for other reasons. If the other player has an easy time accessing the graveyard the bottom of the deck may be a better spot for that scary limited card they've played. And as mentioned it's good for saving your own cards to be used for later.

Lore: Send one face up Spell or Trap card on the field to the bottom of the owners Deck, then send this card to the bottom of your Deck.

Nice card, could possibly become a staple Spell. The bottom of the deck won't mean they won't get it though, since there are lots of searching card and even if they don't serch the card, the Deck gets shuffled. I'm thinking that you could make it like this:
Send one face up Spell or Trap card on the field to the bottom of the owners Deck, then shuffle this card into your Deck. You can only activate one "Astral Vortex" per turn.

Fully understood that sending it to the bottom of the deck doesn't necessarily mean it will not show up again. That's part of the fun.

But then if you use it on your own card the second effect automatically shuffles. I was hoping that you would have to use another card to search or shuffle. Limiting it to only once a turn might be necessary, I will think that over.

Thanks

Its quite an interesting concept. It would probably end up outclassing at least Twister due to re-usability and the fact it doesn't actually destroy, making it immune to things like Stardust Dragon. It might be played in the Side Deck at some point. I know Twister is used from time to time depending on the format. Only trouble is that most Continuous/Field Spells are actually searchable so it is extremely likely they will crop up again. All Field Spells are searchable by Terraforming and some have their own specific searchers. Tenki, the most commonly played Continuous Spell, is extremely searchable. Obviously it hits Traps as well, but there aren't that many commonly played Continuous Traps these days.

Anyway, the only issue with the design of the card itself if that it's worded to not target the card you destroy. This means you select the card on resolution rather than activation. This means you can essentially change your mind if the game state changes. This is an element of design that is generally frowned upon and should be avoided. Change the wording to something like this:

Target 1 face-up Spell/Trap card on the field; return it to the bottom of the owner's Deck. Then return this card to the bottom of the Deck.

Other than that, this is probably one of the best "First Cards" I've seen for a while, so well done.
