Haunted Kingdom of the Wraith (Archetype)

Raviel the Phantom

Recommended Posts

With Halloween a month away, I always like to create a set that is haunting, to say the least.  In the depths of darkness lies a castle that has been cursed.  A skeletal horde known as the Wraith rule this kingdom.  These creatures cannot die so easily, able to be resurrected with the life force of others.  With this in mind, these creatures can come back from the grave when a player offers up an Xyz monster as a sacrifice.

Archer

If this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: You can send 1 Rank 3 Xyz Monster from your Extra Deck to the Graveyard; Special Summon this card from the Graveyard.  When you do: Target 1 monster your opponent controls; that target loses 800 ATK.

This card can trigger Dante and Alucard.  I don't like that.  And Alucard can create a loop b/c if you send one Alucard, and then another Alucard, the second Alucard can target the first Alucard, then you get a loop going.  Meaning you'll never run out of Summons for this guy.  Find a way to fix that.  For the actual card, I think it's great, you gave it stats that I can work with.  The effect is the golden part... Very balanced yet very good.  Also, I like how you didn't make this archtype once per turn, so I really need to kill a monster, I could continually clash (atk higher monster and die on purpose) and activate it's effect until I can get a monster low enough to kill it, if the occasion calls for it.  Great card.  Also, since the effect activates in the GY, it will always count its printed Level (even if it was modified while on the field) b/c when it goes to the Grave it loses any boosts, changes etc.  So I worded it this way since this is how I think Konami would word it.

Assassin

If this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: You can send 1 Rank 1 Xyz Monster from your Extra Deck to the Graveyard; Special Summon this card from the Graveyard.  When you do: Target 1 Special Summoned monster on the field; destroy that target.

This card has the same loop problem with Alucard but with Dullahan, so that needs to be considered when fixing that.  Also, you made it mandatory and it can target itself, meaning 2 things if it's the only SS'd monster when it's effect activtes:

-It has to kill itself (and it can revive itself, but it will just kill itself again)

-It has the potential to wipe all 15 cards in your Extra Deck, I don't know why you'd want to do this, but it's there, I don't like that fact.

So give it the restriction in which it cannot target itself to avoid both of those drawbacks.

Knight

If this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: You can send 1 Rank 4 Xyz Monster from your Extra Deck to the Graveyard; Special Summon this card from the Graveyard.  When you do: Gain this effect.

- If it attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent.

He's good, that's for sure.  But not b/c of his effect, nay your mechanic.  Paladin and Stalker overshadow him, and for that reason he wouldn't be used.  However, if Stalker and Paladin didn't exist, I think he would be used.  Since lots of Decks can use this card b/c he sends Rank 4s and many decks have Rank 4s.  The continual revival is really really good, not OP or broken, just really good. IMO

Stalker

If this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: You can send 1 Rank 4 Xyz Monster from your Extra Deck to the Graveyard; Special Summon this card from the Graveyard.  When you do: Gain this effect.

- This card can attack your opponent directly.

Second best level 4 Wraith (just behind Paladin).  He's very good b/c your opp can only take so many 1600's to the face.  If they don't have the D-Prison, they're forced to use Honor Ark or Castel, and I'm perfectly fine with that, b/c they invested 3 monsters to kill my 1.  I love the pressure this card forces.  Very good card.

Paladin

If this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: You can send 1 Rank 4 Xyz Monster from your Extra Deck to the Graveyard; Special Summon this card from the Graveyard.  When you do: Gain this effect.

- During the Damage Step of either player's turn, if this card battles an opponent's monster: This card gains 700 ATK, until the end of the damage step.

A 2600 (in retrospect) beater that SS's himself from GY when dies, AWE YEAH!  That's good stuff.  Love it, this card is VERY STRONG yet it's not OP, nope, but it's DAMN GOOD!  Great design.

Pyromancer

If this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: You can send 1 Rank 4 Xyz Monster from your Extra Deck to the Graveyard; Special Summon this card from the Graveyard.  When you do: Inflict 500 damage to your opponent.

This card is legitimately broken.  I know you didn't mean to give it the effect you did... This monster can deal 7,500 damage to your opponent....  Your opponent would have to control a monster whose ATK was higher than 1700 but no more than 2200... Any monster fits that range.  As to how this card would do that: ATK, take BP damage (has to be less than or equal to 500) and then it SS's itself deals 500, and atks the same monster until you run out of monsters in your Extra Deck.  So now you have (anywhere between 500-6500, depending on the atk of opp monster) and opp has indefinite 500 LP...  If the opponent has a mosnter with 1200 ATK or less in atk mode you can win this turn, or if you have a card like Shrink or Forbidden Lance or Poison of the Old man (why not use these if they combo like this with your card) you can win.  So fix that.  If you fix this problem the card will be overshadowed and have the same problem as Knight... lol.

Soldier

If this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: You can send 1 Rank 4 Xyz Monster from your Extra Deck to the Graveyard; Special Summon this card from the Graveyard.  When you do: Gain this effect.

- If this card destroys a monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard: You can target 1 Spell/Trap card on the field; destroy that target.

A 900 ATK monster that needs to kill something to get an effect? Wtf? No.  Make him more like Spearman, Destroy when Summoned, then some restriction.  Otherwise the SS effect is crap.

Soothsayer
You can tribute this card, then target 1 Xyz Monster in your Graveyard; return that target to the Extra Deck.  If this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: You can send 1 Rank 3 Xyz Monster from your Extra Deck to the Graveyard; Special Summon this card from the Graveyard.

The recycle effect is most useful, needed, and appreciated, but it's too weak.  Make it either Recycle 2, and instead of tributing itself, make it destroy itself. i.e. "You can target up to 2 Xyz Monster in your Graveyard; destroy this card, and if you do, return those targets to the Extra Deck.  You can only use this effect of "Wraith Soothsayer" once per turn."  This way it instantly grabs 2 instead of 1, and if you choose, you can SS it back by sending one...  Then during your next turn you can do the same, which would have recycle'd 3, and if you choose, you can send one again and continue.  And this balances itself out b/c if you're opponent doesn't just stare at the monster and does something, like attack it and destroy it, it'll harm your net advantage, so you have to either drop him or use resources to protect him.   Make sure you put the OPT clause otherwise he can recycle ALL your resources each turn, and that would be broken.

Spearman
If this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: You can send 1 Rank 3 Xyz Monster from your Extra Deck to the Graveyard; Special Summon this card from the Graveyard.  When you do: You can target 1 monster on the field; destroy that target.  You cannot attack your opponent directly the turn you activate this effect.

Reliable, instant removal.  That's what I'm talking about.  Fatal Flaw... This card needs a OPT clause or something, otherwise he can just clash into all monsters and destroy all monsters provided they have 1400 or more ATK.  A better restriction for this card would be that he cannot attack for the rest of this turn.  A lot of your monsters have Clash abuse, similar to Gustos (when Sphreez is on the field).

Warlock
If this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: You can send 1 Rank 3 Xyz Monster from your Extra Deck to the Graveyard; Special Summon this card from the Graveyard.  When you do: Gain this effect.
- When your opponent Summons a monster that has an original Level: Target 1 Xyz Monster in your Graveyard whose Rank is equal to the Level of the Summoned monster; return that target to your Extra Deck.

Great effect, however it requires careful planning and skill to make the most of it (and I am a HUGE supporter of these kind of cards).  For example, if you know your opponent is playing Satellars, you are going to try to use up your Level four "Wraiths" and then Summon this guy.  Then your opponent will Summon Vega ->   Altair -> Deneb and you recover 3 resources.  I think it's perfect and wonderfully designed.

Warlord
If this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: You can send 1 Rank 4 Xyz Monster from your Extra Deck to the Graveyard; Special Summon this card from the Graveyard.  When you do: Gain this effect.
- This card can attack while in face-up Defense Position. If it does, apply the ATK of this card for damage calculation.

You didn't specify if you wanted to apply the ATK or DEF.  In a game... If a card didn't specify such a thing, you'd be forced to go by the ATK thanks to game mechanics.  So that's what I put the effect as.  However, if you wanted the DEF, simply change ATK to DEF.  And this card has the same problem as Knight, although good, overshadowed, and for that reason wouldn't see play.

Commander
If this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: You can send 1 Rank 6 Xyz Monster from your Extra Deck to the Graveyard; Special Summon this card from the Graveyard.  When you do: Gain this effect.
- Level 4 or lower "Wraith" monsters cannot be destroyed by battle.

No.  You made a Side Deck card for yourself.  Firstly, it protects your opponent's side too, so that's a pain in the @$$ in mirror matches.  Also, if your opponent uses this against you, he'll put cards like Assassin in bad positions since you'll take near Full damage and assassin's effect will be locked thanks to this guy.  Fix it to you control.  In addition, he'd be much more useful if he prevented Level 4 or lower from being targeted by card effects.  That way you counter banishing effects and are more guranteed to trigger those graveyard effects.

Azaroth
If this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: You can send 1 Rank 8 Xyz Monster from your Extra Deck to the Graveyard; Special Summon this card from the Graveyard.  When you do: Special Summon 1 "Wraith Dragon, Belgore" from your hand.

You made it mandatory, so if you don't have a copy you'll be forced to show your opponent your hand to confirm that you do not.  Rules of the game, look up Mind Crush rulings if you want to debate this.  Fix that.  Otherwise the card is decent, but you have to put "You can only control 1 on the field" clause, I'm worried about OTKs.  I like the level 4s more.  But the way you designed this I don't think you'd run both the Level 8s and Level 4s, would cause too much inconsistency.  One or the other.  And all this goes for Belgore since his effect is identical.

Wraith King
If this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: You can send 1 Rank 8 Xyz Monster from your Extra Deck to the Graveyard; Special Summon this card from the Graveyard.  When you do: Gain 500 ATK for each "Wraith" monster currently on the field when this card was Summoned.

I'm pretty sure Konami would just word it: "Gain 500 ATK for each "Wraith" monsters on the field."  But I don't like that at all since it's confusing (to me at least), so I did that, keep that in mind.  The card is too OP b/c its stats are too high.  It counts itself... 3300 off the bat.  If you have another monster that's 3800.  Lower the atk or don't let it count itself.  I'm also worried about OTKs with this card, so I'd like if you put "Can only control 1" clause.

Rider
If this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: You can send 1 Rank 5 Xyz Monster from your Extra Deck to the Graveyard; Special Summon this card from the Graveyard.  When you do: Gain this effect.
- All "Wraith" monsters gain 200 ATK and DEF.

What kind of level 5 monster has just 1900 ATK?  You gave King a whoppin 3300 (if it's just him).  And both are just as easy to Summon.  Set Call of the Haunted, opponent activates MST, chain target the monster (and then CotH dies and so does your monster, then your monster triggers).  Give this guy 200 more ATK so he's a solid 2200 Beater, and give him a 300 ATK boost instead.  So he'll be at a clean 2500.

Castle
During your Draw Phase, instead of conducting your normal draw: You can target 1 Xyz Monster in your Graveyard; return that target to the Extra Deck.  When a "Wraith" monster destroys a monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard: You can target 1 Xyz Monster in your Graveyard whose Rank is equal to the Level of the destroyed monster in the Graveyard; add that target to the Extra Deck.

First things first, no Field Spell or Continuous Spell sign on your card.  I think you should remove skip DP clause.  It's not necessary, it wouldn't be broken with it, you restrict unnecessarily with that, of course make it once per turn.  You should make the second effect once per turn and you should make both Equal to and Lower, you just destroyed a monster by battle and sent it to the graveyard... In yugioh that calls for a big reward... Why?  B/c you had to use your BP (restricting cards like Soul Charge), you had to summon a monster and risk summon traps, then attack and risk attack traps, then go into the Dmg step and risk dmg step tricks.  You overcame all of it.  So give some more breathing room here.  You should give a OPT clause to the effects though so you can't activate  the second eff multiple times, also give it a "Can only control 1" clause so that you cannot stack this card (activate multiple copies and get x2/x3 the recycle).

Haunted Citadel
All "Wraith" monsters gain 400 ATK and DEF.  When a "Wraith Monster" is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: Target 1 Xyz Monster in your Graveyard whose Rank is either exactly 1 higher or 1 lower than the Level of the destroyed monster; return that target to the Extra Deck.  You can only use this effect of "Haunted Citadel" once per turn.

Super useful.  I was thinking that you'd run into conflicts with drawing your 4s first and then 3s or vice versa but this solves that perfectly and then you can't recycle as well.  Very well designed and great use of imagination in general.  OPT clause also well placed.

Long Unlive
Equip only to a "Wraith" monster.  The equipped...  Actually you worded it perfectly to the very last character.

It's nice with King I guess.  Cards like these are powerful, have their uses, but nobody uses them.  Players prefer recycling, drawing, searching, destroying, not simply attacking directly.  Add this effect: "If this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard: You can add 1 "Wraith" monster from your Deck to your hand." Since you don't have any searchers for Wraith monsters.

Order of the King
Activate only if you control a "Wraith King, Gurgurant".  Return all Xyz Monsters from your Graveyard to the Extra Deck.  You cannot conduct your Battle Phase the turn you activate this effect.

Random restriction.  Typically you give BP restrictions for mass summoning (especially), drawing, occasionally for mass destruction... Not mass recycling.  Obv you knew this card was powerful and wanted to balance it out.  My recommendation is to remove it and simply say to target up to 5 specific ones and return them to your Extra Deck... the restriction isn't suited for this type of effect.  Who cares really though?  What matters is what's written, not if it makes sense  :P

Okay so the deck looks great and ready to play.  Your monsters have "Clash Abuse" and that's when you purposely atk bigger monsters to SS them.  For example, Pyromancer (already went over), The Dragon Level 8s can SS all copies in hand if given the opportunity (their attack is so high they rarely will).

The idea is original, it's powerful, and it balances itself out b/c you have to use your Extra Deck as SS resources... You also have to use many diff Ranks.

Summary of (Potential) Issues:
-You should place an OPT clause on all your monsters to prevent Clash abuse
-Fix Problem with Dullahan, Dante, and Alucard somehow, if you don't know how, you can ask me, I'll figure something out.
-Call of the Haunted is pretty OP in this Deck b/c you made the cards IF, so they'll never miss timing.  This is your preference, if you want Call of the Haunted to synergize like this that's fine...  CotH might get hit to 2 or even 1 though
-Pot of Dichotomy is also OP is your Deck...  The nature of your Deck allows to artificially inflate the Attribute and Type count...  This deck is getting a lot of support from overall random areas and cards not designed for it for that reason.  There are a lot of potential issues and variants and possibly Tier 0 variants (and you don't want this, this will ban your whole deck, like Dragon Rulers).   I recommend only being allowed to send a certain type of Xyz Monster to avoid this: "Such as DARK Spellcaster, Zombie, or Fiends".  If you don't you give the deck too much Attribute and Type manipulation.  Pot of Dichotomy would only be the beginning.

That's all I got.  Hope I helped.  Great job with the set, I've love to try it out if I could.

I forgot the Trap woops.  Oh I just read it... it's bad. Should be continuous, and if you do make it once per turn, allow to be destroyed by own card effects, allow to be destroyed by battle, and only SS one instead to balance all these factors out.
