I am slightly disheartened that Moralltach got hit last banlist, as I am one of the few people left who still loves playing pure Artifacts.  Without Moralltach, the deck is not unplayable, but substantially weaker, so I thought I would find a way to not only recycle Moralltach and other cards a bit more efficiently than Failnaught, but also net some advantage while you are at it.  My only concern is that with enough backrow this is basically Pot of Avarice for the deck, but I can't think of a way to make it more balanced (if it even needs to be):

Artifact Ajax

LIGHT | Xyz | Rank 5

1000 ATK | 2900 DEF

Fairy | Effect

2 level 5 "Artifact" monsters
Your opponent cannot target face-up cards you control for attacks or card effects, except "Artifact Ajax"
Once per turn, during either player's turn, when an "Artifact" monster would be destroyed, you can target that monster;
Once during this turn, it cannot be destroyed by battle or by card effects.
You can only use the following effect of "Artifact Ajax once per turn.
During your opponent's turn, you can detach 1 Xyz material from this card and target 2 or more "Artifact" cards in your Graveyard,
up to the number of Set Spell and Trap cards you control; Shuffle them into the Deck, then you can either:
* Special Summon 1 "Artifact" monster from your Deck.
* Draw 2 cards

So this would essentially be the fusion of Aegis and Achilles.  Unfortunately they don't come from the same Mythos like Moralltach, Beagalltach and Durandal, but they are both Greek myths, so I went with another Greek legendary Shield.  The hero Ajax carried an enormous shield made of seven cow hides and a layer of bronze.  With this shield he was never injured in any battle of the Trojan war and became one of the lesser known heroes of said war.  A common strategy he would us is to team up with this brother Teucer, who was a skilled bowman, and "gun down" targets while under perfect protection.  Read more about Ajax here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ajax_%28mythology%29

The draw-2 effect is probably too good. Are you telling me you're allowed to draw 4 cards off one Xyz (in the span of a single double-turn, no less)? And after you're done using the materials, you can make a Ptolemy! Great. Though I understand the other effect will nominally also be a +2 (since the obvious call is Moralltach).

I see this flaw to too, you simply can't do this, activating an effect when a card would be destroyed doesn't work, since you can't activate cards in the middle of resolving an effect, and while it sort of works for battles, it's still out of place since no other card does this.

"Once per turn, when an "Artifact" monster would be destroyed, you can activate this effect; It is not destroyed."

It should be:

"Once per turn, if a "Artifact" monster(s) would be destoyed, you can have it not be destroyed."

Onto the card itself:

Well then, that's a pretty nice little thing, very high DEF, protection effect as well as a Pot of Avarice effect, which can also get their Spell/Traps, which is quite nice. It does have a major problem though, it can keep on re-Summoning guys from the Deck over and over again, possibly creating some loops with this guy, which can easily stall your opponent a lot, and along with the protection. The draw effect is also pretty good, but not really as powerful I would say, since you need to Set them again to use them, where the Special Summon effect just pulls out them right away.

It should be:

"Each turn, the first time an "Artifact" monster(s) would be destoyed, it is not destroyed."

Thanks for your input.

@Zaziuma I see what you are getting at but that's not what I want.  Basically I want the effect to be Stardust Spark dragon with the activation timing of My Body as a Shield.  The result was my given wording.  I think I can fix it though.  Let me see what I can do.

On the topic of the draw, this was the main concern, and you guys are right; it may be a bit too strong.  I think i'm going to make it detach 2 for that effect, and throw in "You can only activate the following effect of "Artifact Ajax" once per turn.  How does it look now?

Also I forgot to add "during either player's turn" to the 2nd effect.  changed.

Significantly weakened by requiring two materials, possibly unnecessarily so ... I think it is held back by being a quick effect as that does give it a lot of power and maneuverability. Oh well. I think it suffers from the too-many-effects-so-can't-all-be-great syndrome.

What I'm saying is feel free to make it a bit better.

I think the old third effect would actually be acceptable kind-of in a world where you could only use it during your opponent's turn ... but that's just me. I like the new OPT so you aren't incentivized to make like 3 and then + everywhere.

Alright, if you think so.  I'm just a bit concerned about this being a 2 time Pot of Avarice, but you are probably right; isolating it to only my opponent's turn would probably balance out the draw.
