Thanks.

The resolution is...

Any company that makes toys for kids is now deemed as corrupt and immoral.

Konami, Upper Deck Entertainment, Toys 'R' Us, and even Schools are corrupt and immoral and should be condemned because they make money off of kids.

Schools make money off of funding, not kids. They are government funded, ONLY PRIVATE SCHOOLS make money off of the parents of kids, and those should be illegal anyway because they let people be taught religion in groups.

All of you are making it really hard to carry on with a structured debate.

You say that any company/group/person who benefits from kids is immoral.

That means Toys R Us is immoral.

Is that what you mean?

The part about Toys 'R' Us is correct.

The first part is not.

Resolved: That it is corrupt and immoral to make money off of minors.

Not benefit, but make money through them. Such as 4Kids.

I hate to bump this thread, but I really gotta say this.

Resolved: That it is corrupt and immoral to make money off of minors.

Is it really making money off minors, though? Sure they're the ones that are eventually getting the stuff, but how often do you actually think it's them buying it? Most minors don't have jobs (at least until mid-teens age), so the only time they get money is for their birthday/Christmas. As such, you are not taking the money from the kids but maybe 2% of the time. The other 98% you're taking it from their parents/older siblings/other relatives/etc.

Even ignoring that fact and saying that it is the kids, I still disagree with your resolution. Our entire economy is based off the exchange of money for merchandise and the exchange of labor for money and the exchange of merchandise for labor. If you cut any of those strings, the whole thing falls apart.

Also, anyone with money is part of this circle, no matter their age. Thus, it is no more immoral to make money from minors as it is from adults. It is a fact of life that kids like different things than adults, so it is only a strategic business move to make your merchandise appeal to more than just adults. If all we made were things adults liked/would use, the economy would suffer a significant drop. In light of this, businesses move to make things that adults like, and other things that kids like (though, some specialize in one or the other). Again, it is no more immoral to make a movie geared toward kids than it is to make one geared toward an older crowd. It's simply smart business planning. Sure, younger kids are easier to take advantage of, due to the fact that they don't know as much and don't have as much experience in those kinds of things, but they should know enough to ask somebody older and smarter before they just up and do something. Even they should have at least some common sense.

Alright, that turned into more of a rant, and I'm sorry, but I'm pretty sure I actually addressed your resolution, and I hope this wasn't all just spam.

Damn, I didn't know you were that intelligent. Go join the debate thread.

But that's not the issue. What I mean is not taking money directly from them, but profiting off them. 4Kids gets money because kids watch their shows, which have advertising that makes them money. Get it?

Thanks, I think. Could you provide me a link? I can't seem to find it >_<

Anyway, yes I get what you're saying, but my point above stands. 4Kids gets money from kids watching YGO, and FOX gets money from people watching the nightly news. It's all the same, business is business. Whether it's focused at kids or adults, it's still business. Think about some near poor people who watch TV. It isn't anymore immoral for the companies to make money from them watching TV than from Donald Trump or Bill Gates watching the same program. As such, why should it be anymore immoral if it's kids?

Same way it's immoral to sell kids booze, their judgment centers are underdeveloped.

How is it the same? Watching a TV program, where they themselves aren't buying anything and no transactions are taking place, and buying and ingesting alcoholic beverages, where they made a conscious choice to purchase and drink them, are nowhere near alike.

Seems more like you're grasping at straws.

Maybe that was a bad example.

Hm...

Preying on the general interests of minors in order to gain profit. Is that understandable?

I still fail to see whats wrong with that. Then again, I'm the guy who would have Syria bombed for little profit anyway because Syrians are lesser people.

What you call "preying" I call market research. It is general practice to research what is popular amongst an age group, and produce products, or show things that have to do with those things. If you produce unpopular things, you won't make money.

EDIT: I have work early in the morning, so I need to head to bed. I am not ducking out of our debate, I just need sleep. I will respond again when I get up at around 7:00 AM forum time.

But is it not brainwashing, due to the fact that they can't tell they're just being preyed on for cash?

Also, Static, lol.

Guy's, the only reason he put's the ad's is cause he needs to, if he deosn't make enought money he wont be able to keep the site up, and seriously how many are still on the forum just because of the card maker? not many, not even DJ Osiris. He earns money for hosting the site for us, so we come on it and post.

Not every company that makes money from kids is immoral, you have to understand that it's a job, it deosn't matter what you do for living, you do it because you have to live, plain and simple. people shouldn't be judged because they try to earn money but how they earn the money. They may earn it of kids, but they don't do it illegally, do they. i agree that this may be immoral but no one would host for us this site, make to kids toys or anything if they dont make money out of it. Everyone wants to make money, so let YCMaker make the 100 bucks a week or so if that's what he will do to host the site for us, you know so we have the DEBATE forum that we WANT and NEED that wont be there if he deosn't make the "immoral" money he makes.

Why should it matter if they know or not? Not all adults know that either, yet you don't say it's preying on them. Ignorance is no excuse.

EDIT: CD = yes
