HolyPilgrim
Hello everybody! Today I'm showing you the... unorthodox Brame archetype! "Brame" is the word resulting of the words "Brazilian" and "Meme". Yes, these cards revolve around memes and jokes from the tropical lands of Brazil. Of course, that means most of you won't get the jokes, but you will be very surprised if you think they are just a bunch of weird buffoons! No, they are more than that, they have a solid strategy. The Brames are focused in 2 aspects: countering plays and banishing cards. Most of them have effects that negate activation and summons of cards under some specific situations and denying the enemy's plans as best as they can, some of them having costs of banishing Brame monsters in your Graveyard. To deal damage they end up needing the help of level 5+ monsters, while having no Xyz, Synchros or Pendulums specifically for the archetype. Well, I guess it's about time to show you the huge family of Brame! I will also add a little explanation of the "jokes" they represent, but that's of course just a bit of trivia/lore. Shall we begin?
If your opponent would add a card from the Deck to their hand: banish 1 "Brame" monster in your Graveyard to banish that card instead. Trivia: Alborghetti was a journalist well known for his "bad temper", with constant shouting enraged with the news he gave, hence his title "The Brame Fury" If your opponent would activate a card effect: pay 800 Life Points, then banish 1 "Brame" monster on your Graveyard; negate the effect and destroy that card. Trivia: Alexander de Almeida is a millionaire business man whose video showing a life of luxury and rich parties went viral in late 2013. He described himself as the "Baignoire King" (Rei do Camarote, in Portuguese) and tried to show the pubic the 10 commandments for having his life style. Once per turn, during your opponent's turn, if they activate a Trap card: negate the activation and destroy it. Trivia: This one is more known. Rubens Barrichello was a F1 pilot who, despite his huge experience never won a world title. He was known for being the 2nd pilot for Michael Schumacher, 7 times world champion. When your opponent activates a Spell/Trap card during the Battle Phase: banish this face-up monster; negate the activation and destroy that card. Then, you can banish 1 "Brame" monster in your Graveyard to Special Summon 1 banished "Brame" monster with lower ATK than this card. Trivia: Carlos Alberto de Nobrega (commonly called Cazalbé in the Internet) is the host of a "humoursitic" show called "A Praça é Nossa" (The Square is Ours, in a literal translation). The show is pretty old and is very unfun now, though. His laugh is pretty memetic and sometimes seems to be almost forced, and can be experienced here: http://www.myinstants.com/instant/risada-carlos-alberto-nobrega/ When a bad joke is told here in Brazil, it's commonly said you summoned Prassódia (Praça + Exodia). If your opponent summons a Fusion, Ritual or Pendulum monster: banish 2 "Brame" monsters and banish that monster. Trivia: Dercy Gonçalves was a very old aged commediant well known for her excessive use of bad words. It was rumored that she was older than the Universe itself and would never die, but she did cross to the other side in the end. When your opponent activates a monster effect during the Battle Phase: banish this face-up monster; negate the activation and destroy that card. Then, you can banish 1 "Brame" monster in your Graveyard to Special Summon 1 banished "Brame" monster with lower ATK than this card. Trivia: Didi Mocó is an old commediant who, much like Cazalbé, lost all his fun. He is also known for always telling a touching story of a hungering boy who asked his mom "Mommy, is there bread in Heaven?", followed by "And died". This actually ends up being funny somehow. (not the story, but the way he tells it). If this is the only monster you control: monster effects cannot be activated. If this monster is destroyed, remove it from play instead. Trivia: It is the mascot of Dolly, a soda brand. Their ads featuring him are always annoying with lame earworms and he has an awful voice. In these ads it says you should gift your parents with Dolly in Mother's/Father's day. During either player's Damage Step, when a "Brame" monster you control battles: You can send this card from your hand to the Graveyard; that monster gains ATK equal to the ATK of the opponent's monster it is battling, until the end of this turn. Trivia: Known as Dr. Hollywood, he is a flamboyant surgeon who does miracles, making even the most repugnant of people look like a Hollywood actor. Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 4 "Brame" monsters when a "Brame" monster leaves the field while your opponent controls a monster. His most well known book is "On the Mafagafians and Other Essays". If your opponent Special Summons a monster: you can banish "Brame" monsters in your Graveyard whose combined ATK are equal or higher than the ATK of the summoned monster, and take control of it; its effects are negated. You can only activate this effect once while this card is on the field. Trivia: Dr. Abobrinha (Abobrinha is Zucchini in English) was the villain in an infantile show called Castelo Rá-Tim-Bum. He wanted to buy the eponymous castle and rebuild it to become a shopping center. He is a petty, but still evil person. Another memetic laughter + his catchphrase (in Portuguese): http://www.myinstants.com/search/?name=abobrinha If your opponent summons a Synchro or Xyz monster: banish 2 "Brame" monsters and banish the Synchro/Xyz monster. Trivia: an already deceased politician who shouted angrily in his campaigns, with tenebrous classic music on background, shouting in the end "My name is Enéas! 5656!" If your opponent activates a monster effect: negate the activation, and destroy it. This effect can only be used once while this card is face-up on the field. Trivia: Faustão is a comedian and the host of the Domingão do Faustão (lit. Faustão's Big Sunday) for more than 20 years. He usually don't let their guests speak when interviewing them, always speaking on top of them. Also has an entry on Know Your Meme: http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/people/faustao When your opponent declares a direct attack while this card is in your hand: banish both this card and the attacking monster, then end the Battle Phase. This card's ATK and DEF are each equal to the number of banished "Brame" monsters x 300. Trivia: Jeremias is a very memetic character, although moreso in the past. He was arrested by piloting a bike while totally drunk, claiming he was drinking in Hell, served by the Devil himself, and that he could kill a thousand people. When you do: This monster gains 300 ATK for each card that would be destroyed by that effect. Trivia: Luis Ricardo is a journalist that once tried to do a pyrotechnic trick of blowing fire, but instead got burned, spawning various memes. He's fine though and did not get scarred (not physically at least). When your opponent activates an effect that would return cards to the hand or Deck: banish 1 "Brame" monster and negate the effect. When this card is sent to the Graveyard: you can banish it, then select 1 Level 4 or lower banished "Brame" monster and Special Summon it. Trivia: He was the President for 8 years (2002-2010). Trivia: The main character of the movie, Tropa de Elite (Elite Squad), he's the captain of BOPE (Special Police Operations Battalion) that fights crime in Rio slumps and is a badass. The movie won a Golden Bear in 2007 and is one of the most watched movies in Brazil. I reccomend it. TVTropes link: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Film/TheEliteSquad?from=Main.TheEliteSquad Once per turn, if your opponent attacks this monster: you can negate the attack and deal damage to your opponent equal to that monster's DEF. Trivia: Ratinho is a journalist who used to present those news about bandits and get really angry with them. Currently he's more into lighter shows. Also famous for his DNA live tests with crappy dramatizations and parties in case of the guy being confirmed being the parent, as well with the "Moh Viadão Você" (lit. You are a homossexual person) meme. You can negate the effects of any cards that target this card. When you do: deal 500 damage to your opponent. Trivia: Ronaldinho Gaúcho is a soccer (or football) player who is popular for dribbling (aka avoiding, fooling or tricking) very well. This extends to memetic levels in Internet, where he can dribble even things like Goku's Genkidama. He's also very ugly but you probably figured it out already. "Brame" monsters cannot be targeted by card effects, except for "Silvio Santos, the Brame Meister". Any damage you would take by card effects increase your Life Points by the same amount instead. Also, if the damage that would be inflicted was from the effect of a monster: banish that monster. Trivia: Silvio Santos is the president of SBT (a TV channel) and host of various shows over the years, including a quiz show offering 1 million reais to the winner, a Wheel of Fortune clone, and an auditory show containing random stuff. Trivia: Tiozinho do Truco (lit. Truco Uncle) is a random guy who tells on his video about one time where he was playing Truco (a very popular brazilian card game very played in taverns, pubs and the like) and he betted that the loser would be "touched" in their "rear". If the effect was of an Effect Monster, your opponent takes damage equal to its DEF. Trivia: Avaiana de Pau("Wood Sandal") is an animated video joking about a fictional wood sandal that is used to punish kids when they do something bad (even if it really wasn't their fault) by throwing said sandal, gravely hurting the kids, followed by their depoiment saying they learned the lesson. Banish 1 "Brame" monster you control, then select 1 of your "Brame" banished mosnters: return it to the Graveyard and note both monsters' Levels. You gain Life Points equal to the combined Levels x 100. Trivia: at one instance, a long time ago, a girl asked Silvio Santos the difference between a lightpole, a woman and a bamboo, a common joke in Brazil, leading into the person asking "what about the bamboo" only to get answered with "shove it into your (rear)" (since "rear" and bamboo rhyme in portuguese). Silvio fell for it, in live TV. Once per turn, you can select 1 of your banished "Brame" monsters: return it to the Deck, then shuffle it. When you activate this effect: Place 1 Counter on this card. "Brame" monsters gain 100 ATK for each Brame Counter on this card. When this card has 5 or more Brame Counters, you can activate this effect: banish it, then banish up to 3 cards on the field, then 1 additional card for each Brame Counter after 5 this card had. Trivia: Once in Faustão's show, a guy showed him a Remote Controlled Grill. The invention failed and went on fire in the middle of the stage. Faustão's reaction is hilarious, and largely used in Youtube Poops All "Brame" monsters gain 100 ATK for each banished "Brame" monster. Also, any card your opponent controls is banished instead of sent to the Graveyard; the number of cards banished by this effect each turn is equal to the number of "Brame" monsters you control. Trivia: One of Brazil's states is Acre. It's the westernmost state and a very far place, hard to get to since it's on the middle of the Amazonic Forest. So it's very joked about it being a non-existant place, or another dimension, or an alien home.

When your opponent declares an attack to a "Brame" monster: negate the attack, also the attacking monster cannot activate their effects, be tributed or used for a Synchro/Xyz summon until your next End Phase. Trivia: A popular scene of an humourstic show called "Hermes & Renato", featuring a very skeptic priest interviewing a guy who said he was the son of the Devil. Trivia: Zorra Total (lit. Total Mess) is a completely unfunny "comedy" show that thankfully is no more. One of the various sketches' characters is Zeca Pimenteira (from "Seca Pimenteira", lit. "Peppertree Witherer", an expression meaning the envy of a person). Said character would always meet a friend, that would tell how awesome things are going for him, like, say "I got a new TV", then Zeca answers "I always wanted a TV like that", only for it to burst in flames. It is still not funny, though. When your opponent activates a Spell/Trap/Monster effect that would target or destroy a "Brame" monster: discard 1 "Brame" card; negate the activation and banish that card. Trivia: A Norueguese guy called Ove was in Brazil when he was interviewed, by a comedy show called "Panico na TV" (Panic in TV). He did not know Portuguese, and all he could say was "Antonio Nunes" (a common name and last name) while slapping his leg for no reason. That was because he was here before and was interviewed by a random guy called Tony Nunes. All "Brame" monsters gain 100 ATK and DEF for each of your opponent's banished cards. If your opponent summons a monster or activates the effect of a card with the same name as one of their banished cards: negate the summon/activation and banish that card. That's even his catchphrase: "Isto non ecziste" (This doesn't exist, but with an spanish accent)
Whew, that was a lot of information, wasn't it? Well, I do hope you guys take your time to read, not only to have a laugh, but to know a little more of the memetic "culture" of Brazil, and of course to say whaddya think of the cards themselves, if they are overpowered or not, well, just open your heart! Also, I'd like to note I have never used so many euphemisms in my life.
