(Written) Fossil-Armor Archetype

Recently developed but based on three things - lack of Fossil monsters in DRLG 2, a revision of an older unfinished theme I did a long time ago and lastly...who the hell doesn't love dudes and gals dressed in fossilized armor? The Fossil-Armor monsters are united for their habit to act sometimes as Flip Effects and when destroyed by your opponent, they can add back a comrade from the Graveyard to your hand. Oh, did I mention that this also has Fusion Monsters too with an unique way to come out? As such, do stay tuned as further support and members will be added and all thoughts, general criticisms, etc are welcomed. So let's dig in!

Fossil-Armor Quester Teryx

Attribute: EARTH

Fossil-Armor Fusionist Ammony

You can only use this effect of "Fossil-Armor Gunman Dilophos" once per turn.


Fossil-Armor Chariot Styraco

Text: 1 "Fossil-Armor" monster + 1 Rock-Type monster

Must be first Special Summoned (from your Extra Deck) by returning the above cards you control to your hand (you do not use "Polymerization"). Once per turn, you can either: Target 1 other "Fossil-Armor" monster on the field; equip this card to that target, OR: Unequip this card and Special Summon it in Attack Position. While equipped by this effect, if that target battles an opponent's monster, any battle damage it inflicts to your opponent is doubled. If the equipped monster destroys a monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard: Destroy 1 Spell/Trap Card on the field.

 

Fossil-Armor Shieldmaiden Archelona

This card can attack while in face-up Defense Position. If it does, apply its DEF for damage calculation. Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can send 1 "Fossil-Armor" card from your hand to the Graveyard, then target 1 face-up monster on the field; change that target to face-down Defense Position. The monster that got changed to Defense Position by this effect cannot change its Battle Position.


Fossil-Armor Lancer Driceral

Fossil-Armor Vanguard Tyrannon

Once per turn: You can target 1 "Fossil-Armor" monster you control; that monster can attack your opponent directly, but when it does so by using this effect, the battle damage inflicted to your opponent is halved.


Fossil-Armor High General Brachior

When this card is Special Summoned: Change all other monsters on the field to face-down Defense Position. If this card would be destroyed, you can send 1 "Fossil-Armor" card from your hand to the Graveyard instead.

 

Fossil-Armor Dragon King Jurragon (NEW)

Text: 1 "Fossil-Armor" Fusion Monster + 1 or more "Fossil-Armor" monsters

Must be Fusion Summoned OR Special Summoned by the following method, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways.

● You can Special Summon this card (from your Extra Deck) by returning the above cards you control to your hand (you do not use "Polymerization").

This card can attack while in face-up Defense Position. If it does, apply its DEF for damage calculation. Once per turn, during either player's turn, if your opponent would Special Summon a monster(s): You can banish 2 "Fossil-Armor" cards from your Graveyard; negate the Special Summon, and if you do, destroy the monster(s).


Fossil-Armor Dragoon Coatlus

Attribute: EARTH

Level: ****** (6)

Type: Rock/Synchro/Effect

ATK: 2500

DEF: 1200

Text: 1 Rock-Type Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner "Fossil-Armor" monsters

Once per turn: You can add 1 "Fossil-Armor" card from your Graveyard to your hand, then send 1 "Fossil-Armor" card from your Deck to the Graveyard. When this card leaves the field: You can Special Summon 1 Level 7 or lower "Fossil-Armor" Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck, ignoring its Summoning conditions.


Fossil-Armor Bedrock

Attribute: SPELL

Type: Normal Spell

Text: If your opponent controls a monster and you control no monsters: Set 1 "Fossil-Armor" monster directly from your Deck. You can only activate 1 "Fossil-Armor Bedrock" per turn.


Fossil-Armor Forging

Attribute: SPELL

Type: Normal Spell

Text: Add 1 "Fossil-Armor" monster from your Deck to your hand, then change 1 Rock-Type monster you control to face-down Defense Position. You can only activate 1 "Fossil-Armor Forging" per turn.

 

Fossil-Armor Spirits

Attribute: SPELL

Type: Quick-Play Spell

Text: Target 1 Rock-Type monster you control; Special Summon 1 "Fossil-Armor" monster from your Graveyard in face-down Defense Position whose Level is equal to or less than the target's Level, then change the target to face-down Defense Position. You can only activate 1 "Fossil-Armor Spirits" per turn.


Fossil-Armor Amber Arrow

Attribute: TRAP

Type: Normal Trap

Text: Select and activate 1 of these effects.

• Change the battle position of 1 "Fossil-Armor" monster you control; inflict 700 damage to your opponent.

• Change the battle position of 1 "Fossil-Armor" monster you control; destroy 1 card on the field.


Fossil-Armor Primal Surge

Attribute: TRAP

Type: Normal Trap

Text: Once, during the Battle Phase of either player's turn, when a "Fossil-Armor" monster you control is attacking or being attacked: That monster gains 1000 ATK or DEF until the End Phase. You can only activate 1 "Fossil-Armor Primal Surge" per turn.


Fossil-Armor Primal Roar

Attribute: TRAP

Type: Counter Trap

Text: When a Spell/Trap Card, or monster effect, is activated while you control a "Fossil-Armor" or face-down Rock-Type monster: Negate that activation, and if you do, destroy that card. After this card's effect is resolved: Change 1 face-up Rock-Type monster you control into face-down Defense Position.


Fossil-Armor Shrine (NEW)

Attribute: TRAP

Type: Continuous Trap

Text: During each of your Standby Phases: You can send 1 "Fossil-Armor" monster from your Deck to the Graveyard. Once per turn, if you control no monsters: You can send this card from the field and 2 "Fossil-Armor" monsters from your Deck to the Graveyard; Special Summon 1 "Fossil-Armor" Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck, but its effects that activate on the field cannot be activated this turn. (This Special Summon is treated as a Fusion Summon.)

Neo Fossil Fusion

Attribute: SPELL

Type: Normal Spell

Text: Fusion Summon 1 Rock-Type Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck by shuffling monsters you control on your side of the field or in your Graveyard into your Deck. During either player's Standby Phase, you can banish this card from your Graveyard; all face-up Rock-Type monsters you currently control cannot targeted by your opponent's card effects, until the End Phase.

I'll review these starting with the effects monsters then the Extra deck and spell and traps later.

 

 

 

Fossil-Armor Quester Teryx
Attribute: EARTH
Level: ** (2)
Type: Rock/Tuner/Effect
ATK: 300
DEF: 1300
Text: If you take damage by battle or by an opponent's card effect while you control a "Fossil-Armor" monster: You can Special Summon this card in face-down Defense Position (from your hand). If this card is destroyed (either by battle or by an opponent's card effect) and sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 "Fossil-Armor" monster in your Graveyard, except "Fossil-Armor Quester Teryx"; add it to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Fossil-Armor Quester Teryx" once per turn.

A level 2 self summon tuner when you take damage as well as a retriever when destroyed. Its low DEF could lead it to being destroyed after you summon it, but your opponent would let you get a monster back.

 

 

 

Fossil-Armor Scout Pterran
Attribute: EARTH

Type: Rock/Effect
ATK: 1500
DEF: 1100
Text: When this card is Normal Summoned or flipped face-up: You can add 1 "Fossil-Armor" monster from your Deck to your hand. If this card is destroyed (either by battle or by an opponent's card effect) and sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 "Fossil-Armor" monster in your Graveyard, except "Fossil-Armor Scout Pterran"; add it to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Fossil-Armor Scout Pterran" once per turn.

A searcher and retriever so it can help you get key monsters you need to get a combo going.

 

 

 

Fossil-Armor Sorceress Ichthya

If this card is destroyed (either by battle or by an opponent's card effect) and sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 "Fossil-Armor" monster in your Graveyard, except "Fossil-Armor Sorceress Ichthya"; add it to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Fossil-Armor Sorceress Ichthya" once per turn.

Same as Pterran, but for Spell/Trap searching when flip summoned.

 

 

 

Fossil-Armor Chevalier Velos
Attribute: EARTH

Type: Rock/Effect
ATK: 1750
DEF: 1400
Text: If this card destroys an opponent's monster by battle: You can Special Summon 1 "Fossil-Armor" monster from your Deck in face-down Defense Position. If this card is destroyed (either by battle or by an opponent's card effect) and sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 "Fossil-Armor" monster in your Graveyard, except "Fossil-Armor Chevalier Velos"; add it to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Fossil-Armor Chevalier Velos" once per turn.

Helps maintain field presence and has decent attack for a level 4.

 

 

 

Fossil-Armor Defender Saichan
Attribute: EARTH
Level: **** (4)
Type: Rock/Effect
ATK: 1000
DEF: 2100
Text: Once per turn: You can target 1 other face-up "Fossil-Armor" monster you control; change that monster into face-down Defense Position. If this card is destroyed (either by battle or by an opponent's card effect) and sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 "Fossil-Armor" monster in your Graveyard, except "Fossil-Armor Defender Saichan"; add it to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Fossil-Armor Defender Saichan" once per turn.

The main use for this card would be to use it to reset Ichthya and Pterran to re-use their searching effects. Other than that its good as a wall and Extra deck material.

 

 

 

Fossil-Armor Summoner Paras
Attribute: EARTH
Level: **** (4)
Type: Rock/Effect
ATK: 1200
DEF: 1600
Text: When this card is Normal Summoned or flipped face-up: You can Special Summon 1 "Fossil-Armor" monster from your Graveyard. If this card is destroyed (either by battle or by an opponent's card effect) and sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 "Fossil-Armor" monster in your Graveyard, except "Fossil-Armor Summoner Paras"; add it to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Fossil-Armor Summoner Paras" once per turn.

This is a grave summoner with no real restrictions on what archetypal monster it can summon, except the Fusions, and would be used to get Coatlus out easily which then allows for a search as well as a free level 7 or lower when Coastlus then leaves the field.

 

 

 

Fossil-Armor Sentinel Stegon
Attribute: EARTH
Level: **** (4)
Type: Rock/Effect
ATK: 1200
DEF: 1900
Text: When this card is Normal Summoned or flipped face-up: You can add 1 Rock-Type Tuner monster from your Deck or Graveyard to your hand. If this card is destroyed (either by battle or by an opponent's card effect) and sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 "Fossil-Armor" monster in your Graveyard, except "Fossil-Armor Sentinel Stegon"; add it to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Fossil-Armor Sentinel Stegon" once per turn.

Like Pterran but not restricted to the by archetype and can retrieve from the grave as well  so you have a larger range of targets.

 

Overall this Archetype has weakness to banish cards like Macro Cosmos and D.Fissure as well as Soul Drain. It does have a problem staring to maintain field presence so battle prevention cards and Catapult Zone could help keeping you monsters on the field until you get you fusions out.
