video games are getting worse.

Opinion/10

Edit: I don't disagree with it though. Rather, I'd like to see you actually argue your case.

Many recent games tend to give more importance to graphics and to the system's limits rather than the game itself. Yet again, not ALL of them. It's true, there won't be any epic games like Super Mario Bros, original Megaman, Chrono Trigger or such games we would like to talk about to our grandchildren, but you can't argue against the fact that some games out there are awesome. (Admit it, people. SSBB's storyline SUCKS ASS)

My top 3 favorite games of all time are Chrono Trigger, TimeSplitters Future Perfect and Dead Rising, in that order. Notice how 2 of them are new (not so much for TSFP, but meh). I mean, many games right now are really good, but they don't push the system's capacity to it's limits, nor do anything out of the standard. Super Mario Bros was a whole new experience when it appeared. So simple, with lots of original content. But what do we have these days? Lots of better stuff, but it's so common and so little original we tend to say they're not as quite as good. When something has a good and new gameplay, we love it, and the game becomes a classic. But when it's something we've seen before, even if it looks and is completely superior, we don't appreciate it as much, as it has a "seen before, played before" sensation.

Games aren't getting worse. They're getting better, but they offer less things to look for.

... Video game companies now mostly target the "Casual" crowd. The point is, a huge epic super hard game won't sell, but an easy game with a half thrown in storyline etc will probably sell much better.

In short, it's all business.

I agree. Video games are getting worse. A few gems, however, still shine through, Brawl being one of them. In a video game, I look for story, relatable characters, and gameplay.

Why is that now a game MUST have explosions and big buff guys with guns and/or deadly weapons? Whatever happened to a good storyline with characters that you can actually relate to? I would trade off graphics for story and gameplay any day.

Also, these new big name franchises are driving me nuts. I think online gaming will be a downfall for the gaming industry. Now, storyline doesn't seem to matter as long as you can run in and gun down other players. :?

I like my SNES and NES. That was gaming's best era.

So true! Nowadays you can't play games twice like we (some) used too.

EX: Twilight Princess...played it once...all right...second time...groan...unbearable.

I miss being able to do that. The classics had true replay value.

I really love those old rpgs with branching storylines, challenging dungeons, and that actually required some logic to complete. What ever happened to free roaming rpgs? Now it seems to be just get a quest, go and do it, further the story.

Maybe I haven't played enough modern rpgs to reall make that observation. What do you think?

No, its true, you can't play modern games once you beat it the first time. It poses:

1.) No challenge

2.) No fun

3.) No real enjoyment...or Ex:2.

I disagree with all this " LAWL BRAWL SAVED VIDEO GAMES"

Brawl wasn't that good. It was fun for a bit but, meh. It's nothing new, and far from the best game ever. I think video games aren't getting worse, there may e some bad games, but there are a lot of good ones, ones better than brawl. Example: Universe at War, CoD4, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2, etc.

Still not as fun as the old school games that you could play over and over. Plus you can rig them and make fun glitches + hacks on them with ease!

Most old school games wouldnt last that long. Plus we have online, and game's are a lot better developed. Much more fun than old school video games.
