Your opponent controlling a monster is far from a certainty.

If you're going second, which you will be the majority of the time, then your opponent controlling a monster is pretty damn likely, particularly game 1 if they don't know what you're playing, they will probably commit more to the board. Every deck summons something turn 1 these days. BA will always make Dante, Tellars will summon a Deneb/Unuk, Shaddoll will have a fusion monster or something set etc.

Also, I did the maths and there is a roughly 1 in 3 chance of opening the combo if you're playing Upstarts, which is pretty damn high and probably means it will win you a game once every couple of matches.

Oh, and you can side it out game 2, which is pretty useful.

Tellars are just as weak to Ritual Trish but realistically they'll always have an out to either and at least Ritual Trish is more consistent (doesn't rely on you opening a Ju as well) and is a +0 rather than a -1. BA are also likely to be able to out it and really aren't even affected that badly by Trish if they've already gained advantage, especially if they can empty their hand with a discard trap so you're basically just banishing a card on the field. Shaddolls, granted, it's pretty good against but again they'll empty their hand or have Veiler so all it does is banish a card on field.

Obviously it's almost never possible in the mirror and if they do leave a monster on the field you can just Ritual Trish them which is just as devastating.

edit: It also does nothing against Tellarknight and BA brick hands which can't put a monster on the field and you probably can't do it late game because you'll have used your Ju already.
