Fluffyfish
Hello,I'm here to present my newly created archetype: "Saturnii". First of all, I feel compelled to say that the Saturniidae are a sub-family of the lepidoptera order (which includes butterflies and moths, but the Saturniidae is composed of moths only). The reason I used this name and shortened it to "Saturnii" was just because it was cool. Plus the Saturniidae's most distinctive feature is that most of its members have "eyes" on their wings (which is really cool). A few members names are actually based on real species I searched (Luna Moth, Pinemoth), others are just cool stuff. You can also interpret the archetype name as a reference to the planet Saturn, known for having lots of moons, while "moon" is a recurrent theme here (as most moths use the moonlight to guide them). Without further ado, the deck is a Synchro one, and their playstyle is revolved a lot at having "Saturnii" monsters in your hand. All Synchro Monsters can only activate their effects while you have at least 1 "Saturnii" on hand (either by revealing the card or discarding it). The non-Tuner monsters work by generating some desirable hand-advantage, allowing you to activate the Synchro's effects most of the time. Meanwhile you really want to have a couple Tuner monsters on your hand, since they have effects that supports other "Saturnii" monsters you control (and Special Summon themselves), but can only be activated from the hand. So here are the members:[spoiler=Main Deck Monsters:] [spoiler=Tuners:] [spoiler=Saturnii - Sticky Larvae]EARTH - Level 2 - Insect/Monster/Tuner - 600/1000When exactly 1 "Saturnii" monster you control is targeted by a card effect: You can Special Summon this card from your hand; that effect now targets this card. Up to twice per turn, while you control another "Saturnii" monster, this card cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects. [spoiler=Saturnii - Gluttonous Larvae]EARTH - Level 3 - Insect/Monster/Tuner - 800/1600When an opponent's monster declares an attack: You can negate that attack and reduce the ATK of the attacking monster by 800; Then Special Summon this card from your hand. [spoiler=Saturnii - Imperial Pupa]LIGHT - Level 3 - Insect/Monster/Tuner - 0/0This card on the field cannot be used as Synchro Material for a Synchro Summon. During either player's Main Phase or Battle Phase, if this card is in your hand: You can, immediately after this effect resolves, Synchro Summon 1 "Saturnii" Synchro Monster using this card in your hand and 1 non-Tuner "Saturnii" monster you control as Synchro Materials. You can only use this effect of "Saturnii - Imperial Pupa" once per turn. [spoiler=Non-Tuners:] [spoiler=Saturnii - Pandora Pinemoth]EARTH - Level 4 - Insect/Monster/Effect - 1400/1800When this card is sent from your hand or your side of the field to the graveyard: Add 1 "Saturnii" monster from your deck to your hand, except "Saturnii - Pandora Pinemoth". You can only use this effect of "Saturnii - Pandora pinemoth" once per turn. [spoiler=Saturnii - Aurora Moth]LIGHT - Level 3 - Insect/Monster/Effect - 1400/1400You can reveal this card from your hand, then target 1 card your opponent controls; until your opponent's end phase, if this card is sent to the graveyard, return the targeted card to the hand. You can only use this effect of "Saturnii - Aurora Moth" once per turn. [spoiler=Saturnii - Dusk Moth]DARK - Level 3 - Insect/Monster/Effect - 1600/1200If this card on the field is used as Synchro Material for the Synchro Summon of a "Saturnii" monster, you can return it to the hand instead of sending it to the graveyard. You can only use this effect of "Saturnii - Dusk Moth" once per turn. [spoiler=Saturnii - Wild Moth]EARTH - Level 4 - Insect/Monster/Effect - 1600/1200When this card is Normal Summoned: Add 1 "Saturnii" monster from your graveyard to your hand. Once per turn, you can reveal any number of "Saturnii" monsters in your hand, then this card gains ATK equal to the number of cards revealed by this effect x 400 until the end phase. [spoiler=Extra Deck Monsters:] [spoiler=Saturnii - Royal Moonlight Moth]LIGHT - Level 6 - Insect/Synchro/Effect - 2200/22001 "Saturnii" Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monstersOnce per turn, you can discard 1 "Saturnii" monster from your hand: Target 2 cards your opponent controls and 1 card you control; return them to the hand. If this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard or returned from the field or Graveyard to the Extra Deck: You can reveal 1 "Saturnii" monster in your hand, then add 1 "Saturnii" monster from your graveyard to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Saturnii - Royal Moonlight Moth" once per turn. [spoiler=Saturnii - Twilight Luna Moth]LIGHT - Level 7 - Insect/Synchro/Effect - 2400/24001 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner "Saturnii" monstersOnce per turn, during either player's turn, you can discard 1 "Saturnii" monster from your hand; this card is unaffected by your opponent's monster effects until the end phase. Once per turn, if this card battles an opponent's monster, at the start of the damage step, you can reveal 1 "Saturnii" monster in your hand; return the opponent's monster to the hand. [spoiler=Saturnii - Eternal Night Moth]LIGHT - Level 9 - Insect/Synchro/Effect - 2800/28001 "Saturnii" tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner "Saturnii" monstersOnce per turn, you can reveal 1 "Saturnii" monster in your hand, then target 1 card on the field; return that target to the hand, and if you do, this card gains 1000 ATK until the end phase. If this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard or returned from the field or Graveyard to the Extra Deck: You can discard 1 "Saturnii" monster from your hand; Special Summon this card from your Graveyard or Extra Deck. You can only use this effect of "Saturnii - Eternal night Moth" once per turn. [spoiler=Spell/Traps:] [spoiler=Moon Guide:]Spell/NormalTarget 1 "Saturnii" monster in your graveyard: Special Summon it, but its effects are negated. This turn, if the monster Special Summoned by this effect is used as a Synchro Material for the Synchro Summon of a "Saturnii" monster: Draw 1 card. You can only activate 1 "Moon Guide" per turn. [spoiler=Midnight Invitation:]Spell/Quick-PlayTarget 1 "Saturnii" monster you control and 1 card your opponent controls: Return both targets to the hand. During your turn, except the turn this card was sent to the graveyard, you can banish this card from your graveyard and return 1 "Saturnii" monster you control to the hand; add 1 "Saturnii" monster from your deck to your hand. [spoiler=Poison of the Moth:]Trap/NormalIf a "Saturnii" monster you control is destroyed by battle and sent to the graveyard: Target the monster which destroyed it and 1 other card your opponent controls; during the end phase, return them to the hand, and if you do, add 1 "Saturnii" monster from your graveyard to your hand. Fluffyfish
Bump."Midnight Invitation" was changed for a graveyard search effect (instead of an immediate search effect) with a more interesting cost. I knew there was something wrong with the card, but only now I understood it was more because it did way too much in a single move, not necessarily because it did too much by itself (it was and still is a really strong card though, but now its less obnoxious).I'm really on the fence about "Poison of the Moth" now. I feel the card may need a slight change, but I'm unsure how it would work in a duel right now. It may actually be fine, but I think I will change it's pseudo-search effect.Edit: "Poison of the Moth" was indeed changed as well. Its effect now reflects a "poison" much better (the targets are returned during the end phase, not immediately), so I could loosen up and give it an circumstantial effect that add "Saturnii" to the hand from grave (the deck needed one more card like that). Tojin
These are pretty interesting! I feel like they'd get a lot of mileage out of Insect Imitation and Degenerate Circuit, though that might be a bit of a double-edged sword. I feel like the addition of another non-Tuner and maybe another Tuner would benefit the archetype, but I prefer larger archetypes, so that's just me. I look forward to any work you might do in the future!
Fluffyfish
Couple changes made.I also thought the deck missed a non-tuner, or to be precise, a non-tuner that doesn't have suicidal tendencies (really, all of them until now just granted benefits on the graveyard, which was my intention at first, but feels weird now).I have made two changes, with the objective of making you actually want to summon them a bit and to give the deck a bit more of options besides "Which one can I synchro this turn?"*I think I really have a problem with that. My last archetype involved Xyz, and all the cards did revolved completely around Xyz Summon. And it's not that fun if the cards can't do a thing by themselves (at least having a couple options, you know? Of course the focus is still the Extra Deck summoning). Anyway, the changes are the creation of another non-tuner monster: "Saturnii - Wild Moth". A needed addition to the deck, I would say, he acts both as a brawler and helps refreshing your hand (obviously essential for the deck). The second change was to "Saturnii - Aurora Moth". This one just gained extra effects (and a level reduction), now its the only main deck monster with a removal ability (all removals of the deck are still by bouncing), in a way that synergizes both with synchro summoning and self-bouncing effects (now there's a good target for the second effect of "Midnight Invitation"), although it lost it's graveyard effect (but dusk moth and the new trap version cover that part, I believe).P.S: I'm still looking how to repair this original post. For some reason, I can't fix those weird spaces between things (they aren't like that when editing). Now it's all cute. Yay!
Fluffyfish
Relevant changes made.Really wished to have delivered it a bit sooner but I was busy tweaking my other archetype and with new years, so I just made sure to make it before the 2 week limit.Anyway, the concept was firm since the archetype creation, but I was wavering on how to go about it, so few changes were needed, taking a more focused route. These changes presented tries to flesh things out in the most intuitive way I could deliver, with things taking a more definitive route (all tuners protect you while in hand, half non-tuners want to be discarded for the effects and the other half helps you synchroning). It's definitely more powerful now, and hopefully it flows smoother. If I believe its official and remain satisfied with the result for a week or so, I will upload them to Duel Portal and start the actual testing. [spoiler=Changes]- All banish effects were removed. The act of adding the monsters from grave to hand feels quite vital to the deck consistency and overall flow, so the effects involving banishing were redone into something else (as in "Dusk Moth" and "Aurora Moth").- "Eternal Night Moth" was increased to level 9 and gained 200 ATK/DEF. While I thought taking the usual "each monster 1 level above the other" route was the most natural choice in synchro decks, I wished that the optimal way to summon the deck's boss monster was Synchroning using another synchro (it requires a saturnii), and since the deck lacks in level 1 and 2 tuners (only one level 2), it was really impractical to do so before. With this, it should feel much more natural to do a synchro then try to synchro the boss monster eventually.- I added a curious trigger for the "float" effects of "Royal Moonlight Moth" and "Eternal Night Moth". Now you can activate these effects as well if they are returned to the Extra Deck (either from the field or the graveyard), emphasizing the relevance the hand is to the deck (the Extra Deck is the "hand" of Synchro monsters). Now the deck officially isn't weak to other decks that bounce (its interesting to make it so), and you can do interesting plays by either adding those synchros from the graveyard to the "hand" (Extra Deck) or utilizing one of the bouncing costs to make it not quite a cost (mainly midnight invitation and "Royal Moonlight Moth" itself).-Imperial Pupa was changed to a really strong effect (I mean it, it may be a bit too powerful). Now you can use it on your opponent's turn and its spell speed 2, kinda of a mix between "Aither the Heaven Monarch" and the whole synchoning in your opponent's turn thing (I think its called "Accel Synchro"?). This definitely makes it the stronger of the tuners (really feels "Imperial" now), but since it can't be used as Synchro Material on field, it probably won't overshadow the other 2 too much (plus it won't work to save the 2 higher levels synchro).- Aurora Moth still has the same role (the only main deck monster with removal), but its way more intuitive this time (can both be triggered when synchroning and when discarded by effects).- Dusk Moth has a slight change in route, now its the "benefits when used for synchro summon" card, being able to add itself to hand instead of going to the graveyard when used for a synchro. This change is pretty much the reason I named Imperial Pupa's effect like that (I initially made it so it send the materials to grave and Special Summoned from the Extra Deck, but it was incompatible with this card).- Wild Moth has a more practical approach to its role, useful both to enhance your synchro plays (by hand advantage) and to be a beater in potential.- "Royal Moonlight Moth" has a more straightforward discard effect, while having an add grave-hand on its reveal effect. The card is quite aggressive in comparison to "Twilight Luna Moth" (I initially wanted to make this one the "safe" card, but changed my mind later and I'm happy with the results).- "Twilight Luna Moth" is now quite hard to take away from the field. While it doesn't float, it can make itself invulnerable for a turn. Really strong as is, but not as strong as the boss monster (a bit too costly to keep it on the field).- No major changes to "Eternal Night Moth". Its even stronger than before (I really think its worth being a boss monster), and with the tweaks around its float effect, I believe its quite a fearsome card. Now you can even use its effect to casually Special Summon it from grave anytime in the game (as long you can add it to your "hand" and have a "Saturnii" to discard). I may still include a few more changes in the next few days, in the case I suddenly don't feel satisfied with it anymore (it happens a lot).I'm also worried about the ocg of a few cards. Since I'm exploring effects I can't quite compare to existing cards, it may be worded weirdly. As long it's understandable its fine, but if you think there's a better way to express it please say so. Thank you.
