Fluffyfish
As you can see, I have created this card with the intention of expanding the designs towards DEF and defensive actions in a Duel (I still plan on brainstorm more concepts regarding this). The main thing I have in mind with this is making monsters in Defense Position a bit more threatening (since in Def Position your monsters are mostly completely harmless -Super Heavies obviously not included, but they are their own thing that I may address later here). And to be honest, I kind of wish attacking a Defense Position monster with Def higher than your ATK would destroy your monster naturally, since I believe it would give more reasons to try doing strategies involving Def Position monsters (I mean, the only reason you would ever summon a monster in Def Position is if you simply got no other play to do and just want to protect your LP, thus its something you DONT want to do most of the time, except in a first turn play), then it could make cards like Daunting Pose more useful, and defensive strategies involving reducing your opp's monsters ATK (in Spell Speed 2, before they attack your monster) more legit. All in all, it could open a decent range of possibilities. In all seriousness, unlike using ATK modifiers while in ATK position, making a play where your Def Position monster has higher DEF than your opp's monster ATK feels really underwhelming (who cares for that negligible damage?). Thus that's the route I plan to take when making cards more DEF oriented. Giving you more reasons to intercept your opponent's attacks by increasing your monster's DEF (other than making your monster survive, which then you could as well play "Waboku"). It's also important to note that this is hardly something you will want to base your deck on (as a Win Condition), its mainly a tool that allows a "surprise" block + destruction that lets you counter-attack the next turn.- As a note, I love Super Heavies, but their playstyle is "pretending my DEF is my ATK", thus they aren't exactly what I'm looking for with my design of Defense oriented cards (of course you can also use this in Super Heavies, and it would probably be pretty decent there). I'm talking about some real defensive-reactive playstyle. Ambushing Spike WallLevel 3 - EARTH - Rock/Flip/Effect - 300/2000Flip: If this card is flipped face-up by an opponent's monster's attack, destroy the attacking monster if its ATK is lower than this card's DEF. Once, while this card is face-up on the field, if it battles an opponent's monster, during damage calculation: It gains 1000 DEF until the end of the Battle Phase. During either player's Damage Step, if a Defense Position monster you control battles an opponent's monster: You can send this card from your hand to the Graveyard; your monster gains 1000 DEF until the end of this turn's Battle Phase, and during this battle, if the ATK of your opponent's monster is lower than your monster's DEF: Destroy the opponent's monster at the end of the Damage Step. The card should be potentially useful as well even if you can't use its hand effect (the main dish). You can comment about the card, the design ideas or anything related below.Cheers.
