The Gardna Series In English

Now, if you are 1 of those people that look up certain types of monsters, such as a Archetype or Series, you probably have had your fair share of a blank result. One example would be "Gardna". I tried looking up on Google for it, but couldn't find anything--In English at least. Luckily, the Spanish have already got this covered, although Translate could do a bit better... But anyways, if you just wanted to see what the Gardnas are, here is the what you need to know.

Gardna (ガ ー ド ナ ー, Gādonā in OCG) is a series of monsters mostly focused on defense capabilities. The first and best known of the monsters was the monster "Big Shield Gardna" used by Yami Yugi for the first time during the Battle City Tournament. Some Gardnas focus on a very high ability to block attacks, while others use their effects to weaken incoming attacks. Some cards like "Boxer Indomitable Cubrecostilla", "Desert Protector" and "Reflector Magic" contain the word Gādonā (name outside Japan Gardna written) in their Japanese names, so they are considered part of this family of cards.

All the main characters in each series of Yu-Gi-Oh! have used Gardnas: Yami Yugi has the monster "Big Shield Gardna", Jaden Yuki has the Monster "Necro Gardna", Yusei Fudo has the monster "Gardna Ghost" and "Gardna Zero" and Yuma Tsukumo has the monster "Gagaga Gardna" . In the film Yu-Gi-Oh! 3D: Bonds through Time, Yusei also uses the monster "Junk Gardna".

The Gardna monsters are a fairly small line. Having no exclusive support cards, these are best used as a support in a Deck. Currently, the game only has a few of these, including its own Trap Monster, "Cyber Shadow Gardna". In terms of style of play, Gardna monsters require make good use of their unique defensive capabilities, such as immunity to Spell effects, a trait that are shared in both "Big Shield Gardna" aand "Mid Shield Gardna" when they are face-down. Cards that can help are those that redirect incoming attacks, such as "Staunch Defender", "Rare Golden Armor" and even monsters of the same line as "Ghost Gardna".

Similarly, you have to choose the ways to counter the general vulnerability of Gardna monsters well when they are in Attack Position, helping with cards like "Solar Light of the Desert", "Book of the Moon" or even "Change Weapon" to have a surprisingly effective attack.

Some of the Gardna monsters also enjoy some help from cards like "Reinforcement of the Army", "The Warrior Returning Alive" and "Freed General Unmatched "and cards with general support to the defense, as" Continuous Destructive Fist "or" Sanctuary Choir ". A useful support for Gardna monsters is the letter "Broken Blocker" that will recover almost any Gardna monster that had been destroyed by a strategic error or neglect. To make the really competitive Deck, you can use cards like "Unity", "Batallamanía", "D2 Shield" and "Defensive Mind".

● Big Shield Gardna: one of the first "Gardna" to appear in the anime. Its effect can block Spells, and his defense of 2600 makes it strong. However, the other effect makes it risky, since changes to Attack Position taking only 100 ATK.

● Mid Shield Gardna: direct counterpart of "Big Shield Gardna". Its effect is to flip it face-down so that it can later negate Spell effects targeting this monster and flip it face-up. It has 100 ATK and DEF 1800.

● Necro Gardna: the first "Gardna" pertaining to this and other archetype, the "Necro". Even with its 600 ATK and DEF 1300, his real skill is to negate attacks.

● Gardna Ghost: A "Gardna" with a very useful skill, intercepting attacks and then subtracts 1000 ATK  from an opponent's monster when it is destroyed.

● Gardna Zero: As its name suggests, is primarily responsible for reducing damage to 0 and prevent the monsters from being destroyed in battle, only by Tributing this card.

● Junk Gardna: another "Gardna" belonging to another archetype, the "Trash". It could be seen as an enhanced version of "Big Shield Gardna". Its effects are to change positions, besides having a powerful defense.

● Gardna Reptilian: besides being part of the archetype "Reptilian", its effect is not purely defensive.

● Gagaga Gardna: also belonging to the "Gagaga". Its effect cancels direct attacks, besides having its own effect to not be destroyed in battle by discarding a card.

● Dawnbreak Gardna: one of the most difficult "Gardna" monsters, as being a Gemini Monster Summon requires twice to activate its effect, besides having the lowest defense of all members of the archetype.
 

● Boxer Indomitable Lever Gardna: the effect of this "Gardna" has nothing to do with defending.

● Gardna Red: from the anime, has the curiosity of belonging to an exclusive archetype of this ( "Red"). DEF has a great and protects the monsters of destruction if the conditions specified in its effect are given.
