Chimaeric Cores

Chimaeric Cores are another in a long line of "fuse this thing with monsters of a specific attribute to get a fusion." You know like that one set of Elemental HERO fusions, Shaddolls, and the new Eidolon Beasts. But with a focus on banishing (which can make Fusion Gate a good choice to use with then), also no LIGHT or DARK monsters.

[spoiler=The Cores]

Level 3 monsters with 500 ATK and 200 DEF. There is one each for EARTH, WIND, FIRE, and WATER. They have a Special Summoning effect (that actually form a small cycle so your could bounce a card to your hand, put it onto your deck, send it from there to the grave, then banish it; though I'm unsure how useful that is), an effect letting you use 1 monster of a different Attribute from your Grave if it is used for a Fusion summon but banishing all the materials if you do, and an effect for while it is banished.

Chimaeric Core Erthys

EARTH

Level 3

Rock/Effect

You can send the top card of your deck to your Graveyard to Special Summon this card (from your hand). If this face-up card is used as material for a Fusion Summon, you can also use 1 WATER, FIRE, or WIND monster from your Graveyard as material for that Fusion Summon, but if you do all materials used for that Fusion Summon are Banished. While this card is banished, Fusion Monsters you control gain 400 ATK and DEF.

500 ATK/200 DEF

Chimaeric Core Aeros

WIND

Level 3

Winged-Beast/Effect

You can return a face-up card you control to the hand to Special Summon this card (from your hand). If this face-up card is used as material for a Fusion Summon, you can also use 1 EARTH, WATER, or FIRE monster from your Graveyard as material for that Fusion Summon, but if you do all materials used for that Fusion Summon are Banished. When a Fusion Monster you control is targeted for an attack: You can put this banished card on the bottom of your deck; negate that attack, and if you do, the attacking monster loses 1000 ATK.

500 ATK/200 DEF

Chimaeric Core Flaemis

FIRE

Level 3

Pyro/Effect

You can banish 1 card from your Graveyard to Special Summon this card (from your hand). If this face-up card is used as material for a Fusion Summon, you can also use 1 EARTH, WATER, or WIND monster from your Graveyard as material for that Fusion Summon, but if you do all materials used for that Fusion Summon are Banished. While this card is banished, when a Fusion Monster you control destroys an opponent's monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard: Your opponent loses 500 LP.

500 ATK/200 DEF

Chimaeric Core Aquans

WATER

Level 3

Aqua/Effect

You can put 1 other card from your hand on the top of your deck to Special Summon this card (from your hand). If this face-up card is used as material for a Fusion Summon, you can also use 1 EARTH, FIRE, or WIND monster from your Graveyard as material for that Fusion Summon, but if you do all materials used for that Fusion Summon are Banished. During your Standby Phase, if you have three banished cards named "Chimaeric Core Aquans": You can draw 1 card. You can only use this effect of "Chimaeric Core Aquans" once per turn.

500 ATK/200 DEF

[spoiler=Fusions]

The Chimaeric Core Constructs are level 5 fusions made of a core and a level 5 or lower monster. These can be summoned using any Chimaeric Core monster (including other Chimaeric Core Constructs) of any Attribute and a monster of the same Attribute as the Construct. But they can also be summoned using the level 3 Chimaeric Core of the same attribute and then a level 5 or lower monster of any attribute. They have different stat spreads but all should add up to 4400. They have an effect to banish a card from one of your zones (deck, hand, field, grave) and hit an opponent's card in the same zone. They also gain an additional effect while you have three or more banished monsters with the same attribute as it.

Chimaeric Core Construct Gnome

EARTH

Level 5

Rock/Fusion/Effect

1 "Chimaeric Core" monster + 1 Level 5 or lower EARTH monster

If this card is Fusion Summoned using "Chimaeric Core Erthys" as a Fusion Material, the other Fusion Material used may be of any attribute. Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can banish 1 card from your deck; your opponent banishes the top card of their deck. As long as you have three or more banished EARTH monsters, this card cannot be targeted by, or destroyed be, your opponent's card effects.

2400 ATK/2000 DEF

Chimaeric Core Construct Sylph

WIND

Level 5

Winged-Beast/Fusion/Effect

1 "Chimaeric Core" monster + 1 Level 5 or lower WIND monster

If this card is Fusion Summoned using "Chimaeric Core Aeros" as a Fusion Material, the other Fusion Material used may be of any attribute. Once per turn: You can target 1 face-up card you control and 1 face-up card your opponent controls; banish those targets. As long as you have three or more banished WIND monsters, this card can twice during each battle phase.

1800 ATK/2600 DEF

Chimaeric Core Construct Salamander

FIRE

Level 5

Pyro/Fusion/Effect

1 "Chimaeric Core" monster + 1 Level 5 or lower FIRE monster

If this card is Fusion Summoned using "Chimaeric Core Flaemis" as a Fusion Material, the other Fusion Material used may be of any attribute. Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can target 1 card in your Graveyard and 1 card in your Opponent's Graveyard; banish those targets. As long as you have three or more banished FIRE monsters, when this card attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent.

2600 ATK/1800 ATK

Chimaeric Core Construct Undine

WATER

Level 5

Aqua/Fusion/Effect

1 "Chimaeric Core" monster + 1 Level 5 or lower WATER monster

If this card is Fusion Summoned using "Chimaeric Core Aquans" as a Fusion Material, the other Fusion Material used may be of any attribute. Once per turn: You can banish 1 card from your hand; banish 1 card from your opponent's hand. As long as you have three or more banished WATER monsters, other monsters you control cannot be chosen as attack targets.

1600 ATK/2800 DEF

The ultimate culmination of their power. Still has the 4400 total but much more aggressively with over 3k in attack. Fusion summoned with the four Core Constructs (I recommend Fusion Gate since it lets you easily fusion summon with no other spells and goes ahead and banishes fusion materials anyways). Since it is a core loaded with all the elements, it counts as all of the archetype's attributes. It also gains the effects of your banished Core Constructs. Which means you can banish four opponent's cards each turn and have it attack twice with piercing, act as a Magician's Valkyria for your other monsters, and have effect targeting and destruction immunity.

Chimaeric Completed Construct Aetherius

EARTH

Level 11

Machine/Fusion/Effect

4 "Chimaeric Core Construct" monsters with different attributes

This card is also always treated as a WATER, FIRE, and WIND monster. This Fusion Summoned monster gains the effect(s) of all banished "Chimaeric Core Construct" monsters. Whenever a card would be put into a Graveyard, banish it instead.

3400 ATK/1000 DEF

The Core failures instead fuse into Combinations because they need two cores instead of one core channeling heavy elemental energy. They require a specific core failure and any other Chimaeric Core. This is of course much stricter than the Constructs but there is also only two and then their counterpart to Aetherius.

Chimaeric Core Combination Dryad

EARTH

Level 5

Plant/Fusion/Effect

"Chimaerica Core Failure Silavas" + 1 "Chimaeric Core" monster

During either player's turn: You can banish 2 cards from your Graveyard; this card gains 600 ATK until the End Phase. As long as you have five or more banished "Chimaeric Core" monsters, during your Standby Phase: Gain 1000 LP.

2000 ATK/1400 DEF

Chimaeric Core Combination Iron Golem

FIRE

Level 5

Machine/Fusion/Effect

"Chimaeric Core Failure Aes" + 1 "Chimaeric Core" monster

Monsters other than this card cannot change their battle position. During either player's turn: You can banish 2 cards from your Graveyard to target 1 face-up monster; switch that target's original ATK and DEF. If you would take effect damage while you have five or more banished "Chimaeric Core" monsters: Reduce the damage taken by half.

1000 ATK/2400 DEF

Chimaeric Completed Combination Voidian

WIND

Level 11

Machine/Fusion/Effect

"Chimaeric Core Combination Dryad" + "Chimaeric Core Combination Iron Golem"

This card is also always treated as an EARTH, WATER, and FIRE monster. This Fusion Summoned monster gains the effect(s) of all banished "Chimaeric Core Combination" monsters. Once per turn: You can target 1 of your banished "Chinaeric Core Failure" monsters, and if you do, this card is treated as if it was Fusion Summoned this turn using that target as Fusion Material.

2700 ATK/1700 DEF

Ultimate Chimaeric Deity Void-Aetherius

EARTH

Level 12

Machine/Fusion/Effect

"Chimaeric Completed Construct Aetherius" + "Chimaeric Completed Combination Voidian"

This card is also always treated as a WATER, FIRE, and WIND monster. Cards and effect cannot be activated in response to this card's summoning. This card gains the effects of the monsters used as Fusion Material to Fusion Summon it.

4400 ATK/4400 DEF

A lot of set-up (though I'm not sure exactly how hard it would be). You could probably win earlier than getting Void-Aetherius out. But just use the ability it gets from Voidian to target a banished Fulgura and swing directly with 4400 attack. Mix with Sylph's ability inherited by Aetherius and it can swing twice, directly for 4400 damage.

[spoiler=Support]

Chimaeric Proto-Core

EARTH

Level 2

Machine/Effect

While this card is in the Graveyard, it is also treated as a WATER, FIRE, andWIND monster.

250 ATK/100 DEF

Unstable Proto-Core

FIRE

Level 2

Pyro/Effect

Send this card from your hand to your Graveyard: Draw 1 card. You can only use this effect of "Unstable Proto-Core" once per turn. During your Standby Phase, if this card is in your Graveyard: You lose 800 LP.

800 ATK/800 DEF

Chimaeric Construction Worker

WIND

Level 4

Spellcaster/Effect

When this card is Normal Summoned: You can add 1 "Chimaeric Core" monster from your deck to your hand.

1000 ATK/400 DEF

Paracelsus, Chimaeric Researcher

WATER

Level 8

Spellcaster/Effect

Tribute this face-up card: Special Summon 4 "Chimaeric Core" monsters from your deck with different Attributes. You can only use this effect of "Paracelsus, Chimaeric Researcher" once per turn. For the rest of the turn after you use this effect, you cannot Special Summon monsters except by Fusion Summon.

2200 ATK/2200 DEF

[spoiler=Core Failures and Lore]

Chimaeric Cores were an attempt by the alchemist Paracelsus and his assistants to create controllable, artificial elementals of all elements. They tried many, even redundant stuff like the element of rain as well as water and things like combat that wouldn't really be called elements. After much research they finally managed to create eight Chimaeric Cores: Erthys of Earth, Aquans of Water, Flaemis of Fire, Aeros of Wind, Silavas of Wood, Aes of Metal, Fulgura of Lightning, and Glacius of Ice. The last four became Chimaeric Core Failures.

Fulgura and Glacius, no matter how much tinkering Paracelsus did, refused to stay active longer than a few minutes. This led to them being abandoned as they would not stay useful in experiments.

Chimaeric Core Failure Fulgura

WIND

Level 3

Thunder/Effect

During the end step of the turn this card was Normal Summoned, Special Summoned, or Flipped face-up: Destroy this card. If this card is used as a Fusion Material, the Fusion Summoned monster gains this effect.

•During the turn this card was Fusion Summoned, it can attack directly.

500 ATK/0 DEF

Chimaeric Core Failure Glacius

WATER

Level 3

Aqua/Effect

During the end step of the turn this card was Normal Summoned, Special Summoned, or Flipped face-up: Destroy this card. If this card is used as a Fusion Material, the Fusion Summoned monster gains this effect.

•During the turn this card was Fusion Summoned, if it attacks: You can target 1 monster your opponent controls; change that target's battle position, and if you do, that target cannot change its battle position while it remains on the field.

500 ATK/0 DEF

The next two, Silavas and Aes, were stable and even usable in fusion experiments. But unlike the other four they wouldn't take on more powerful Construct forms the same way the others could (or to speak of the designs, they don't have any counterpart fusion that can be summoned using them and a monster of any attribute nor can they use monsters from the Graveyard). Paracelsus tried hard to fix this but eventually abandoned them too.

Chimaeric Core Failure Silavas

EARTH

Level 3

Plant/Effect

You can return a face-down card you control to your hand to Special Summon this card (from your hand). If this card is used as a Fusion Material, the Fusion Summoned monster gains this effect.

•During the turn this card was Fusion Summoned, if it inflicts battle damage: You can return up to two of your banished cards to your Graveyard.

500 ATK/200 DEF

Chimaeric Core Failure Aes

FIRE

Level 3

Machine/Effect

You can return 1 of your opponent's banished cards to their Graveyard to Special Summon this card (from your hand). If this card is used as a Fusion Material, the Fusion Summoned monster gains this effect.

•If this card is Fusion Summoned: It cannot be destroyed by battle until the end of the next turn.

500 ATK/200 DEF

[spoiler=Spells]

Chimaeric Core Research

Normal Spell

Reveal a "Chimaeric Core" monster from your hand. Add 1 "Chimaeric Core" monster with a different name than the revealed monster from your deck to your hand. Banish this card from your Graveyard: Fusion Summon a "Chimaeric Core" Fusion Monster from your Fusion Deck using monsters from your hand and field.

Next Step of Research

Normal Spell

If you control at least 1 "Chimaeric Core" Fusion Monster, Special Summon 1 "Chimaeric Core" monster from your deck with a different attribute than all face-up "Chimaeric Core" monsters you control and Fusion Summon a "Chimaeric Core" monster from your Extra Deck using the Special Summoned monster as a Fusion Material. You can only activate 1 "Next Step of Research" per turn.

Chimaeric Breakthrough

Normal Spell

If you control four "Chimaeric Core" Fusion Monsters with different names: Draw 2 cards. You can only activate 1 "Chimaeric Breakthrough" per turn.

Elemental Core Absorption

Normal Spell

The next time you Fusion Summon a "Chimaeric Core" Fusion Monster this turn, you can use 1 monster from your opponent's Graveyard as Fusion Material.

Spells/Traps and other stuff will be posted later.

I really like these monsters (fusions are my favorite extra deck monsters). Summoning with non-specific materials makes them easier to summon and you could get them out even faster with Instant Fusion. I also suspect Pot of Desires would be crazy powerful, since the banished cards don't mention any specific property. Face down banished cards have no properties, so if the cards said you could return a banished FIRE, then you couldn't use cards banished by Pot of Desires since the face down banished cards don't have any property, like a FIRE attribute. Also, this deck could probably summon a lot of rank 3 and 5 monsters, which may not be super helpful since I don't know a lot of common monsters from those ranks, but it seems worth mentioning.

There are a few effects that don't seem very helpful, though. Earthys' and Flaemis' effects of 200 ATK.DEF and 100 LP are insignificant. Maybe if you gave Gnome the effect it could beat a lot of common level 7s at 2500 ATK, but in general, I don't think the opponent is going to worry about losing 100 LP.

The support monsters and the core failures have a lot of good effects, especially Construction Worker, searching for a core on summon. CC Research seems like a pretty powerful search card, and Breakthrough and Absorption are also really good.

Next step of Research also seems like a good fusion card, and it seems more balanced, since you can ss a core to fusion summon but limited based on its attribute. Here's a suggestion for how I would make the card text with fewer words.

If you control at least 1 "Chimaeric Core" Fusion Monster, Special Summon 1 "Chimaeric Core" monster from your deck with a different attribute than all face-up "Chimaeric Core" monsters you control. Then, Fusion Summon a "Chimaeric Core" monster from your Extra Deck using the Special Summoned monster as a Fusion Material. You can only activate 1 "Next Step of Research" per turn.

Thanks. This was a fun archetype to work on, and I'm not done yet. There are still traps and I might pull something like what Konami did with the Electromagnetic Warriors to go with the Magnet Warriors and ABCs to go along with XYZs and go ahead and give the Core Failures there own fusions. Though they would probably be a bit different than the current constructs. But that's for another time.

Oh yeah Instant Fusion is level 5, I thought it was level 4. Could be useful because you can use them as Fusion Materials or something.

I'm not sure Pot of Desires would work too well considering you want them banished face-up.

Leviair may work since you banish stuff and Leviair grabs banished cores if you need them.

The weakness of Erthys and Flasris are because originally the base cores were all gonna act like Fire Formations and give 100 ATK (and DEF which Fire Formations don't do) while banished. But that was boring so I changed the other three and boosted Erthys a little. For now I'll bump them up to 300 boost and burn.

Do you think Research is too strong?

Thank you for the improved wording.

All of the fire formation cards have another effect than the 100 ATK boost, except for the trap which gives 700 to one monster and then +300 to all of them on the field (that would help some of those monsters). But I think those ATK boosts are pretty insignificant too, because the real benefit of the fire formation cards is their primary effect, like Tenki, which lets you search a fire fist monster. Looking at the ATK of a few of their monsters, none of them would gain much from 100 ATK, even if you dropped a few in one turn. I think Earthys' effect would need to go up to at least 500 in order to matter to these monsters. Then, Salamander could hit 3K attackers, Gnome to hit 2500 attackers, and put Undine and Sylph just over 2000.

I realize that they're decent ATK ranges for level  monsters, Gnome and Salamander have ATK that would match level 6. I think you could keep the 300 ATK boost on Earthys, but know that these monsters won't exactly be the strongest on the field-they'll need to deal with monsters in other ways, except for Aetherius, whose level caps it at 5K ATK. Or you could raise their levels to justify raising their ATK range. I was just assuming you wanted them to be able to beat monsters in battle.

300 LP is also pretty small, since the solemn counter trap cards cost 1000 and 1500 LP to use. Red Eyes Flare Metal Dragon burns the opponent for 500 damage when they activate a card effect and Gagaga Cowboy burns the opponent for 800 when it's in defense mode. Comparing these 2 effects, I would suggest Flaemis burns for 500, since it only happens when one of the fusions destroys a monster.

If you're talking about chimeric core research, it searches any core and the summoning restriction shouldn't matter too much since those are the only monsters that this card would work with. It's the second of two cards in your archetype which work like the banned E hero stratos, which can search for any E hero on summon. I hear a lot of people want the card unbanned because e heroes aren't exactly a powerhouse as a deck, but I don't know if having two archetype stratos is the best idea in terms of balance. Maybe it could do something like checking for cores in the top 5 or 10 cards of the deck.

If you're talking about "the next step of research", it requires another core fusion on the field, and has a hard OPT. It's a more powerful fusion card that also lets you search for a material before the summon. The "then" means that you could search for a core even if you were prevented from ssing that turn. If you wanted to make the card more restrictive so that both the summon and the search have to happen at the same time, you could merge the 2 sentences together with an "and".

I judge the balance of cards based on current cards I know of, but I'm not very good at thinking of combos. The above spell seems fine as it is, since you can only use it once per turn.
