DAD. Really so great? Worth all the hype?

Personally I don't see what all the hype is about DAD.

 

You can only bring him out if you have EXACTLY 3 dark attribute monsters in your graveyard.

You can remove 1 monster from your graveyard from play to destroy 1 monster on the field.

No protection against traps.

No protection against spells.

No protection from other monsters with only 2800atk and 1000def.

 

Even a Magician Deck would tear right through it (Dark Paladin, Buster Blader, Sorcerer of Dark Magic, Dark Magician of Chaos), especially when running Skilled White Magician, Skilled Dark Magician, a slew of spell cards (making sure to include Dedication through Light and Darkness). Yes, I'm aware they are not the best for tournament duels, but still...

 

What is all the hype about a Dark Armed Dragon? I think I get more worried when I see King Draguun come onto the field, and he only has 2400atk!

 

So please, I am politely asking for someone to enlighten me on the greatness of this seamingly new hot topic card.

Maybe it's the fact that you get a free 2800 ATK beatstick.

 

Maybe it's the fact that he destroys every card on the opponent's field without costing you any advantage at all.

 

Maybe it's the fact that destroying the opponent's cards DOES provide protection from things like traps, and allows him to kill a stronger monster if the opponent happens to have one (which is unlikely in the first place).

 

Maybe it's the fact that he removes a load of monsters from play, making it easy to use RftDD/Dimension Fusion for game.

 

Maybe it's the fact that a deck containing him is compatible with all three draw engines.

 

Or maybe you're right. Maybe the fact that 12 of the Top 16 decks have been Dark Armed Return decks in every single SJC since the release of PTDN was just a fluke. Yeah, the problem must be that not enough people ran Sorcerer of Dark Magic. I bet that if more people ran Buster Blader, DAD decks would crumble. Yeah.

As soon as it's summoned, you can destroy 3 cards (cards, not just monsters) on the field right off the bat. There are many cards that can dump DARK monsters into the Graveyard, thus providing more fuel for it's effect and thus making it very easy to abuse his effect. Plus, many broken cards have no protection against Spell/Traps (CED, Yata, etc.). I think Crab Helmet can explain much more than I can.

 

EDIT: Damn, Crab Helmet already got here. Oh well.

Also, it can be activated multiply times

No protection against traps.

It's very unlikely that your opponent are going to Set Solemn Judgement/Torrential Tribute/Bottomless Trap Hole on the first turn.

No protection against spells.

Because your opponent can Play Spell Cards (aside from Quick Play) during your turn.

No protection from other monsters with only 2800atk and 1000def.

lol ATK/DEF

Yet, Dark Armed Dragon is still tournament worty due it's crazy Speed and insane effect.

I think I understand why you made this topic MOM. I think the effect was confusing. Summoning Dark Armed Dragon is easy, but you may have thought that DAD was not good because the effect description says that you can remove from play 1 DARK type monster in your Graveyard to destroy 1 card on the field. But, you can use it's ability (Ignition) more than once per turn to destroy multiple cards, not just once per turn.

 

I got confused with the ability too, since it said 1 DARK type monster, instead of any number of DARK type monsters.

 

DAD is devastating.
