Volcanic Counter Discussion

Please tell me there is some kind of playable Deck where this card works like a charm, because I have way too many copies of this and just don't seem to find any use for them, yet apparently people are buying this thing online.

either Volcanic or fire burn. Problem is that he has to activate so if you are attacked and take 50 life points of damage you have to use Volcanic counters ability.

true but after its destroyed you could use burial from a different dimenson and get him in the grave and then when your opponent attacks with a monster with extermly high attack you could use a card like disappear and have him removed again and then when the attack hit BOOM your opponent would lose alot of life points.

Something that has been bugging me and that, if I'm right, makes this card less playable in my opinion:

Isn't the effect mandatory so that it'll trigger automatically the first time you receive Battle Damage and the criteria for activation are met? So unless you're going for an OTK, like the one Crab Helmet pointed out and obviously enough I hadn't thought of, doesn't that hurt its playability?

Well yeah, of course. The OTK is the only deck it really belongs in. However, even with your opponent's knowledge of its presence, it can be useful outside of the OTK. It serves as a decent stalling device.

That's the point of the OTK, triggering 9000 damage to your opponent with 3 Counters in the Graveyard, if I understand correctly.

 

Regarding uses for Grinder Golem, I seem to remember something involving Inferno Tempest and 3 Necrofaces as well, but don't feel like looking it up.

Nice art! I'll consider putting this card in my Deck...I still really don't understand all the OTK buisness...Everybody cares about strategies that make them win in one turn. Hasn't anybody put a card in their Deck because it looked cool and somehow found out it benefits the Deck itself?
