[Written] New Format Idea + Deck Masters

Hi ! So i've been thinking about how i could make this thing work for some time and now i'm ready to share it with you guys. Basically, i'm going to show my ideas about how i could make the Deck Master thing from the Virtual World Arc function in a real format.

Almost everyone knows the Duel Master mechanic was heavily inspired by the Commander Format from Magic: The Gathering, so i used some characteristics from that format but also tried to make something original.

I - Deck Master Rulings

● The Deck Masters are placed in a special zone called Master Zone that isn't considered part of the field and can be Special Summoned to your side of the field through specific conditions for each card.

● The Master Zone is located in the space between each player's hand and their side of the field.

● Deck Masters have special golden frames and are similar to Pendulum Monsters: That is, they possess a Master Effect (Which can only be activated in the Master Zone) and a Monster Effect (Which can only be activated when they are on the field).

● Deck Masters aren't neither Main Deck or Extra Deck monsters.

● Deck Masters can be placed in face-down defense position due to effects of cards like Book of the Moon and Sandstorm Mirror Force.

● In any instance, if the Deck Master would leave the field, it's automatically placed in the Master Zone again.

● Each time your Deck Master would be summoned to the field, its Summon Cost is increased by 1 (e.g, the Summon Cost of a Deck Master that is going to be Summoned for the first time in a duel is 1 Effect Monster. If it's destroyed and you want to Summon it again, 2 Effect Monsters must be used as materials, and so goes on).

● You can only summon your Deck Master once per turn.

● If a Deck Master that was Summoned by the fifth time during the duel would be removed from the field, its controller loses the Duel.

● The control of a Deck Master cannot be changed.

II - Deck Construction Rules

● Almost all of the Advanced Format/Master Rule 5 rules are the same.

● 40~60 cards per deck + 15 cards on the Extra Deck.

● You can only have monsters in your Deck and Extra Deck which have the same Attribute OR Type as the Deck Master of your choosing (e.g, if your Deck Master is a LIGHT Warrior monster, you can only have LIGHT or Warrior monsters in your Deck and Extra Deck).

● At the beggining of the Duel, both players place their Deck Master face-down in the Master Zone and, before the beggining of the Main Phase 1, they must flip their Deck Masters face-up.

III - Deck Master Examples

Palladin of the Rising Sun - Aurum

LIGHT - Level 7 - Warrior - Master - Effect

ATK/2500 DEF/2100

Master Effect (Quick Effect) You can target 1 Special Summoned monster with 2500 or less ATK: It can't be destroyed by battle or by card effects once until the End Phase. You can only use this effect of "Palladin of the Rising Sun - Aurum" once per turn.

Monster Effect:

Summon Cost: 1 + 1x level 4 or lower monster (Where X = The time this card is being Summoned this Duel)

Once per turn, When a monster you control declares an attack: You can target 1 monster your opponent controls; Negate its effects until the end of the Battle Phase, then the attacking monster gains 500 ATK until the end of the Battle Phase. If it's the second or higher time this card was Summoned this Duel, it gains the following effect:

Once per turn, when a monster is Special Summoned to your side of the field, you can target up to 2 cards your opponent controls: Destroy them.

Fullmoon Witch - Argentia

DARK - Level 7 - Spellcaster - Effect

ATK/2500 DEF/2100

Master Effect: (Quick Effect) When a monster is Special Summoned to any player's side of the field: You can target 1 Spell Card in your GY; Add it to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Fullmoon Witch - Argentia" once per turn.

Monster Effect:

Summon Cost: 1 + 1x level 4 or lower monster (Where X = The time this card is being Summoned this Duel)

Once per turn, when a card or effect is activated that targets exactly 1 monster on the field: You can discard 2 Spell Cards; Negate the activation. If it's the second or higher time this card was Summoned this Duel, it gains the following effect:

(Quick Effect) You can banish 5 cards of the same type (Monster, Spell or Trap) from your GY: The effects of all cards of that type on your opponent's side of the field are negated until the End Phase. You can only use this effect of "Fullmoon Witch - Argentia" once per turn.

Drakuriboh

DARK - Level 1 - Fiend - Effect

ATK/300 DEF/200

Master Effect: You take no Battle Damage while you control a Level 3 or lower monster.

Monster Effect:

Summon Cost: 1x Level 3 or lower monster

When your opponent declares an attack, you can Tribute this card: Negate that monster's effect, also its ATK becomes 300 and its DEF becomes 200 until the next End Phase. If it's the third or higher time this card is being Summoned this Duel, you can banish "Kuriboh" monsters from your GY to use them as materials for the Summon of this card.

Couple problems:

Unlike MTG, yugioh obviously has much limited field which translate to limited field advantage and limited possible number of resource. While your version of deck master does has additional rulling that can make this material problem should be not much impactful (lose on losing the 5th summoned master) but highly likely in reality even before that given the brutality of removal method on this game, player will find situation in which they way to often losing their master thus stacking the cost into unrealistic number fast unless the master have decent protection effect.

I dont really like this one, MTG can do this type of rulling because either singular color already provide multiple playstyle that still tied to the color nature so players not really losing the play experiences OR (if im not mistaken) many of MTG legendary comes with multiple color and the commander rule also count off-color cost on its ability as part of color identity. Yugioh is the anomaly in card games industry due to its freedom of mixing cards and that become the part of the game charm and success in the first place and this deck master rule if not directly against it, it polarize that freedom
