Dark Arts

Dark Ninja

Recommended Posts

This is my first set not based on a T.V. show. I thought it would be cool if there was a set of cards based on the mysterious, unknown arts of dark magic (like blood tributes and tarot cards) so i came up with these guys. I didn't make any of these pics, they're all from Photobucket.com. Hope you like them and please give me feedback. Thank you.

Other than capitalization, I don't see many OCG errors. Nice effects, but a few may be a little overpowered. Ex. Riva. Only 500 LPs for a 4-star 2500 ATK monster. IDK...I'd say maybe only 300-500 extra ATK points for 500 LPs. But what do I know?

Good cards, BTW. ;)

Yeah, i wondered if riva was a little over powered. maybe i'll halve that atk increase. thanks for the input everyone. i didn't expect this good of a turnout from my first realistic set. until now, all my cards were based off animes and video games.

Well, even if you're basing your cards off of something else, if you're getting practice with balanced effects and OCG, then that's not much different than realistic cards.

And no problem. ;) They were pretty good.

Vial of Blood, Ria, Tia, Kala, Valan, and Riva are the cards that aren't broken; everything else is:

Helena: World's greatest stall card. Imagine this effect in a burn deck, letting you shut down your opponent's monster when they finally think you've lost. This card alone can turn the tables quickly, not to mention its sturdy 1600 ATK.

Halke: Levia Dragon Daedalus, but he gains ATK too... say both of you have 7 cards on the field, a good amount in order to have a sustained duel. two of your are monsters. You tribute them (there are now 12 cards on the field not including Halke) and use his effect. If it was the beginning of the duel, you are paying 4000 LP. Now Halke gains 3600 ATK (12 cards x 300ATK/card). That gives him a grand total of 6200 ATK, more than 150% what you just paid. Not only that, but he doesn't lose the ATK after your turn is over, and he can use his effect again next turn, and the turn after that, and after that...

Bixan: Not incredibly overpowered. However, since he works so well without his Occult Warrior pals, he would be amazing in a DARK Deck. If you've got 3 monsters (which is usually the max during an equally matched duel), then it's 500 LP for 1200 LP. That's alright and everything, if he only has the chance to use it once... say his ATK and DEF are very low, so that he could targeted by an opponent's monster and wiped out before he made a too big of an LP gap. However, his 1850 ATK and 1600 DEF make him very sturdy against most lvl 4 and lower monsters in the duel... innocent, but devious.

Disturb the Dead: Valan, Bixan, or Valke's effect with no drawbacks... need I say more?

Blood Ritual: It's Call of the Haunted (and there's a reason no variations of the card have been made) with a bonus! You get the make the card a DARK monster, perfectly suiting Mystic Plasma Zone or Bixan's effect.

Overwhelming Darkness: Isn't there a card in the game already with that name? But that beside, it's like Negate Attack and Sakuretsu Armor together! And you can't defend it by saying "it only works for dark monsters though" because pretty much 1/3 of the cards in Duel Monsters are dark-attribute, anyway...

so, I guess some of the cards are nice, but others could have used a little more thought to them. And like everyone else said too, you still need caps.

Bunny of Magic, Riva is broken, too. If you summon it on your first turn and pay only 500 LPs, you have a monster that took no tributes with 2500 ATK until the end of your turn. I think that's a bit much.

And Helena is really close to being balanced. It would be if you could only activate it during your turn. But since you can activate it at any time, whenever your opponent summons a new monster, you could stop its attack with only 800 LPs.

Oops, i guess i forgot one part about Halke there. i meant to make him like grandora but i didn't mark down that he's destroyed at the end of the turn. my ocg's still a little off too. i meant for their effects to be only playable on your turn. using Helena's effect at any time IS overpowered. I'll fix some of these guys right away. thanks guys.
