She had been stuck at that desk all day, watching duelist after duelist pile into the room behind her, where all the excitement was. The arena these wannabe-champions were collecting themselves in was a small stadium inside Domino City. It was here that the Duel Academy entrance exams were being held. Naomi had successfully avoided examination duty, but was now starting to regret it. "Here are the results, duelist number fourty-three fails," said an Obelisk Blue named Nathaniel. He was holding out a piece of paper with loose scribbles on it. Naomi jumped at the sound of his voice. Nathaniel had a bad habit of keeping himself silent, only talking when he feels it necessary. "Nathaniel, you really have to stop being so hard on the newbies," said Naomi grabbing the paper from him and placing it on the stack on her desk. "At this rate, there will be no new students for the academy at all." "Us ‘Blues’ shouldn’t have to be stuck with this job. I guess the teachers are getting lazy." Nathaniel turned and started heading for the exit. "Hold on!" called Naomi, waving him back. "There’s one more applicant left!" "Just give it to Marcus," replied Nathaniel as he continued walking. "Tell him to finish this one off quick and come talk to me." Naomi let out another sigh, this time out of frustration rather than boredom. "...I think you’re the lazy one," she muttered after him. CHAPTER 1: Turn Summon! Applicant #44 vs the Monarch Duelist! "Why am I even here?" Clovis asked himself. "I mean, I don’t even see him anywhere." Clovis looked around at the people occupying the stadium seats. They were starting to grow anxious for this particular duel, as it was the last duel of the day, to begin. Clovis didn’t care much for the duel, he was on the look out for someone. The door on the opposite side of the stadium opened. An Obelisk Blue student stepped through and stopped on the marked position. "Alright, let’s make this quick," he said. "My name’s Marcus. I’m here to see if you’re worthy of entering Duel Academy. Don’t get your hopes up though." "It’s about time, I was getting tired of everyone staring at me." Clovis activated his duel disk. Marcus did the same, but Clovis noticed something strange about Marcus’s duel disk. The center component looked like a small turbine. "I see you eyeing my disk. It’s called the Turbine Driver, the only one of its kind." Marcus drew his opening hand and placed two cards on it. CLOVIS: 4000 MARCUS: 4000 "I’m setting two cards face down, one’s a monster, and the other... well, you’re going to have to find out for yourself." As soon as the holographic images of cards appeared between Marcus and his opponent, the small turbine motor started to slowly spin. "About time we got started!" Clovis drew his card and instantly slapped it on his duel disk. "I summon Troublesome Tanuki (4/1400/1800)!" A humanoid raccoon-dog bounced onto the field from a puff of smoke. It stood on its hind legs and banished a staff. "Now, Tanuki, attack that face down monster!" The Tanuki obeyed and jumped forward, striking the card with its weapon. An image of an armored woman shimmered into view before it bursted into pixels. "Now I Turn Summon my Tanuki!" "Turn Summon?" asked Marcus. He knew of the three basic forms of summoning; Normal, Flip, and Special, along with the Fusion and Ritual. But he had never heard of Turn Summoning. He was almost positive that no such ability existed. The Tanuki leapt straight up into the air, placed a leaf on its forehead, and combusted into smoke. From that smoke dropped a humanoid rabbit brandishing a sword larger than it was. "My new Righteous Rabbit (4/1700/300) gets to attack you directly!" The bushido-bunny swung his blade with extreme speed and struck at Marcus. CLOVIS: 4000 MARCUS: 2300 (-1700) The Turbine Driver picked up speed. It now let out a small hum that carried across the arena. The audience would have been able to hear it if they hadn’t been busy discussing the sudden turn in events. It seemed no one had heard of a ‘Turn Summon’ before. "Interesting," exclaimed Marcus. "A move like that would have gotten you instantly accepted into Duel Academy by any normal examiner. But you see, I’m not a real examiner, I’m a student, and all I see when I look at you is competition! The monster you destroyed during your turn was my Peacekeeper Guardna, and because I only have a face down spell or trap card on the field, she comes back from my graveyard. But she isn’t staying for long, I’m tributing her for a much larger monster, my Zaborg the Thunder Monarch (5/2400/1000)!" Storm clouds gathered and thunder echoed through the stadium. The crowd fell silent. A flash of lightning and the mighty monarch of thunder took to Marcus’s field. The crowed began murmuring again once the thunder died down. They were all amazed that Marcus was not using an official "test deck", but his own deck which contained some of the strongest cards at the academy, the monarchs. Multiple onlookers wondered if this meant he was even going to resort to the Turbine Drive. "Now taste the wrath of thunder!" said Marcus, pointed at Righteous Rabbit. A bolt of lighting bolted from Zaborg’s hand. It darted across the field, striking down Clovis’s monster and hitting Clovis himself. CLOVIS: 1600 (-2400) MARCUS: 2300 "Zaborg can destroy any monster and opens up your defenses for a direct attack. Take your last turn." The Turbine Driver was now in high gear. Clovis drew his card. Not a lot of options at his disposal. "I’ll set a monster and two other cards face down, and end my turn." "That’s it?! Ha! I tribute Zaborg for Mobius the Frost Monarch (6/2400/1000)!" Zaborg was replaced by a new monarch wearing ice blue armor. A mist escaped from the crevices in Mobius’s armor and left a chill that filled the stadium. "Now watch his effect!" Two ice crystals appeared on the field, one hovered above Marcus’s face down card, and the other hovered over one of Clovis’s face down card. Simultaneously, both dropped and skewered both cards at the same time. "My Mirror Force!" exclaimed Clovis as his card combusted. "Wait, why did you destroy your own card too?" "Because my card comes back as a monster when destroyed!" The card regenerated onto the field and became a knight equipped in gold armor. "This is my Midas Knight (4/1700/100) and when it hits the field, so does another copy of it..." A second copy of ‘Midas Knight’ set itself on the field as a trap card. "Now I activate Dreaded Monarchy (Normal Spell). By discarding one card... I can use my Mobius’s effect again!" Two more icicles materialized. "Chain! I activate my face down card before you can destroy it! It’s called Bushido (Quick-Play Spell) and it stops my monster from being destroyed this turn." The two icicles fell. Marcus’s second Midas Knight became a monster and his third was set on the field as a trap card from his deck. "Your monster is safe... but you aren’t!" Marcus held out his left arm so the Turbine Driver was in plain site. It was it running it full force, wind whipped around it, a further reason for Marcus do hold it from his person. "Mobius, attack his monster! FULL DRIVE!" Marcus punched forward with his left hand, Mobius copied his actions. Mobius punched at the face down monster. As soon as contact was made, a cloud of ice engulfed it. The shimmering mist was parted in the center as a burst air bent it away. The air stream traveled straight forward and hit Clovis. Clovis felt his feet lift from the ground. His whole body was lifted by the air itself and he was propelled backwards into the wall behind him. He cried out in pain, and fell forward onto the ground. The devastating blast had come from Marcus’s duel disk. "Now do you see, Clovis? Duels aren’t what they used to be! It’s no longer about card games, but establishing an advantage over your opponent and using it as an excuse to hurt them! The harder we dueled, the more energy was stored in my duel disk. The card game you and a world of others have cherished since your childhoods is collapsing, and becoming only another reason to fight." Clovis pressed his palm flat on the cold steel floor and started lifting himself up. "Cherished since my childhood, eh?" Clovis started to laugh. Now back on his feet, he lifted his duel disk up like a knight preparing his sword. "I’ve only just started playing this game a few weeks ago." "A few weeks, a few years... it doesn’t matter how much practice you have! I’ve got you pinned down by three monsters, you might as well throw in the towel before you get hurt again." The mist created by Mobius’s attack dissipated and Clovis’s face down monster was revealed. "It’s time to turn this duel around! The monster you attacked is Giant Peach (4/0/2100)," Clovis said to his opponent drawing his card. "It survived thanks to the Bushido card I played. Next I activate Momotaro March (Normal Spell)! You know the story of the peach boy, right? Well now one of his animal friends gets added from my deck to my hand..." "One little animal isn’t going to win this for you." "That’s ok, because now I have a complete set." Clovis flashed the cards in his hand. "Watch, ‘cause I can summon them all at once with a Turn Summon! Giant Peach, become Momotaro the Peach Boy (8/2700/2100)!" The peach split open, and from inside jumped out a teenage samurai dressed in red and blue armor. The animals; a bird(700/300), a dog(2/500/400), and a monkey(2/800/100) were summoned next to him. "I’m taking out that Momotaro March spell card in my graveyard and removing it from play to activate its second effect. Now my Momotaro Animals can each attack you directly this turn! First up, the monkey! CLOVIS: 1600 MARCUS: 1500 (-800) "Then Bird! MARCUS: 800 (-700) "Then, finally, Dog!" MARCUS: 300 (-500) One by one, the animals bit and clawed at Marcus, each one taking a chunk of his life points. "It’s time to finish this!" called Clovis. "Momotaro, strike down Mobius!" The coloufully armored swordsman drew his sword and swung downward. Mobius was sliced in half vertically then exploded. Marcus held up his arms to shield his eyes. This was a reflex most duelists’ had developed during their careers due to the realistic effects created by the duel disks. When Marcus lowered his arms, he could see Clovis standing only a few feet from him where Mobius had stood. Clovis pointed at him and said, "An excuse to fight each other? Still looks like a card game to me." CLOVIS: 1600 MARCUS: 0 (-300) "You idiot!" Marcus shouted back. "Do you have any idea who I am?!" "Nope," replied Clovis. "and I don’t really care. Right now I only care about one person. Maybe you’ve seen him, he wears all black, and never uses the same deck twice." Marcus’s face turned red in rage and embarrassment. He swatted Clovis’s pointing hand away from his face. "You think I’m going to help you?! Listen, you got lucky, you got that?! If I ever see you again, when I knock you down, you won’t be getting back up!" With that, Marcus turned and stormed out the door, briefly passing Naomi who was standing in the doorway. "Wow, someone finally beat Marcus," Naomi said to herself. "Nathaniel is going to be sorry he missed this." Regardless of the report Marcus would give her, Naomi would pass this applicant. He uses his unique "Turn Summon" cards, and his favourite type of cards are Normal Trap Cards. Kocrow17
The ship drifted closer and closer to the island. The sky was clear that night, and the stars in all their beauty could be seen. An Obelisk Blue was standing alone on the deck, staring up at the consolations above him. “I talked to Naomi,” said not the Obelisk Blue, but a person standing behind him, hiding in the shadows. “So? What did she have to say?” asked Nathaniel, not taking his eyes off of the sky above him. “You should have stuck around at the exams. Marcus was apparently put in his place by some kid who just started playing the game.” “...How’s he taking it?” “You’re not even going to ask who beat him?” “...I already know who beat him.” Nathaniel finally took his eyes off of the dark twinkling abyss above his head and faced the shadows. “Why do you think I gave Marcus that assignment?” “Don’t tell me you were afraid of dueling the kid yourself!” “I could have won... but it was a better choice to have Marcus lose against him. It’s about time people stop addressing him as ‘Blitzkrieg’. I mean, nicknames are such foolish things. Don’t you agree, ‘Icarus’?” The stranger said nothing in reply. “I’m going to go talk to Naomi myself,” said Nathaniel heading for the stairway down into the ship’s lobby. “Why don’t you stay out here and watch the stars?” Chapter 2: The Academy Rankings! Where do you match up? Clovis didn’t particularly enjoy the cruise to the Academy. It seemed the voyage was nothing more than people asking him where he had gotten his cards or congratulating him on his victory. Either way, Clovis detested the attention both things had brought him. He had only one thing on his mind, and none of the people hounding seemed to be able to help him. None of the duelists had heard of the one Clovis was looking for and he was starting to think that this whole journey was a mistake. Then came the uniforms. Clovis was not aware there was a dress code for Duel Academy and was reluctant to accept his new garbs. Shortly after equipping his new red blazer, the ship docked at Duel Academy. Even as Clovis descended the ramp leading to solid ground, we was given numerous pats on the back. The Academy was indeed a sight to behold. In the center of a forest, fixed at the base of a volcano, was the largest school Clovis had ever seen. The interior was just as impressive. Clovis felt he could wonder the halls for days and not bother with class. “Impressive, isn’t it?” asked a woman to his right. “Uh, yeah,” said Clovis in return. He took his eyes off of the ceiling and glanced at the girl addressing him. Like a lot of the students, but unlike him, she was wearing the blue and white uniform specific to the Obelisk Blue dorm. But contrary to the other female uniforms, hers was fitted with a pair of blue pants rather than a skirt. “I saw you duel against Marcus,” she continued. “It was pretty cool. I never thought a new comer like you could have beaten Marcus, one of the top five Cobalt Blues.” “Cobalt Blues?” “Yeah, the Cobalt Blues consist of the best duelists at Duel Academy.” Naomi pulled out her cell phone, and with a few lighting fast button presses, had the Duel Academy website brought up and displayed. “See, there’s Marcus right here at the ‘#2' spot.” “If he was so good, why I am I stuck in the red dorm? I mean, it’s the lowest ranking dorm, isn’t it?” “..True, but just because you beat a blue doesn’t mean you get to become one. The teachers will be evaluating you throughout the semester, focusing on three things; your knowledge of the game, the strategies you use, and your ability to predict your opponent’s moves. These three principles make up your grades and so your ranks as well. You may have the cards and the luck, but you can’t rely on them forever.” Clovis scratched his head in puzzlement, only just able to grasp the idea. They had continued their walk towards the school and were now tracing the hallways as they spoke. “Oh, and look, here I am at the ‘#4' position!” Naomi continued, showing him the cell phone again. “Don’t you want to duel me?” “Well I’ve already beaten Marcus, and he’s higher up on the dueling ladder than you are! I guess it’d be pointless to duel you if I’d just when.” Clovis concluded with a pompous laugh. “Uh, yeah, funny,” Naomi said, laughing politely. Arrogant little brat, she thought to herself. “Of course you want to duel me!” She grabbed Clovis by the wrist and began dragging him down the hallway. “Hey, wait a minute! Where are we going?” “The roof to duel.” “The roof? But isn’t there an arena for students to duel in?” “Yeah, but it’s off limits during classes.” “Now you’re making me skip class?!” Clovis felt helpless while he was dragged by the wrist, his heels sliding feebly against the floor. By the time they reached the stairs leading up to the roof, he had given up trying to convince Naomi to let him go. They made it to the roof just as the bell for the next class started. Surprisingly to Clovis, there were two duel disks waiting for them. “Alright, you stare here, and I’ll run over to the far end over there!” Naomi said. She ran to her position, strapping on her duel disk onto her left arm. Clovis reluctantly did the same. “You can go first!” “...Alright,” accepted Clovis, drawing his card. With six cards to choose from, he chose the most familiar to him and slapped in onto his duel disk. “I summon Righteous Rabbit (4/1700/300).” The rabbit bearing the sword took to the field. “I’ll also set a card, and I guess it’s your move then.” “What a cute bunny! Shame it’s about to become food for my monsters! I call, Luster Dragon (4/1900/1600)!” An adamant covered dragon appeared on the field, brandishing its teeth in Righteous Rabbit’s direction. “Now, devour that bushido-bunny!” CLOVIS: 3800NAOMI: 4000 “I’m not done yet! I’m using my Dragonic Spectrum (Quick-Play Spell) to shed a little light on my monster!” as Naomi spoke, Luster Dragon changed shape into a new dragon and began emanating a red light (Guiding Dragon - Red 4/1500/1500). “Now my red dragon can attack you directly!” A red beam of light let loose from the dragon’s mouth and hit Clovis head on. CLOVIS: 2300 “Your move,” Naomi concluded, sounding very please with her productive turn. This was the first time Clovis had encountered dragon monsters, and he knew he was in trouble. “I draw... and activate my face down card, Call of the Haunted (Continuous Trap). I’ll bring back my Righteous Rabbit and summon my Thunder Breaker (4/1200/1400) by his side!” A large man with lightning crackling between his fingers made his debut beside Righteous Rabbit. “Rabbit, attack that dragon!” “Nah-ah!” said Naomi. “Don’t you know red means stop?” Righteous Rabbit swung its sword, but it was stopped by ab invisible force, inches form its target’s head. Red ripples of light emanated where the sword had been stopped. Clovis gritted his teeth. It didn’t look like any of his monsters were going to get through to Naomi or her dragon. “Fine, I end-” “Not so fast! At the end of each turn, the light changes colours! Now my red dragon gets sent to the graveyard, and a yellow one takes its place from my deck (Guiding Dragon - Yellow 4/1600/900). Now that your turn is over, it means mine’s just begun! Yellow dragon, attack his Thunder Breaker!” Clovis smiled. His monsters could set a little trap on her turn as well. “Guess you didn’t know, Thunder Breaker’s attack power doubles during your turn,” he said confidently. (1200 -> 2400) “Guess you didn’t know I predicted that kind of move. I counter your little plot with Shrink (Quick-Play), which halves your monsters attack back to what is was (2400 -> 1200). The yellow dragon fired a beam identical to the red dragon’s, only golden. Thunder Breaker exploded into pixels and Clovis’s life crept closer to zero... CLOVIS: 1900 (-400) “I’m setting a card face down, and passing the turn over to you.” Clovis drew his card and instantly launched into an attack. “Righteous Rabbit, destroy the yellow dragon!” “So predictable... I’m using my face down card, Dust Tornado (Normal Trap). This destroys your Call of the Haunted, and when its destroyed, so is the monster it resurrected.” “It is?!” Clovis asked in astonishment. He wished he had bothered to read that card. But then he remembered his monster’s effect... “I pay 700 Life Points to use my Righteous Rabbit’s special ability!” CLOVIS: 1200 A rabbit hole appeared beneath the said monster’s feet and it dropped down out of sight. Out from the hole jumped the Troublesome Tanuki (4/1400/1800) in an great example of a Turn Summon (4/1400/1800) in attack position. “Since my Tanuki is immune to the effects of trap cards, Call of the Haunted doesn’t drag my monster to the graveyard with it.” The tornado took its cue and tore away at Clovis’s field. Call of the Haunted was blown away, but the monster remained unharmed. “I’ll also summon my Giant Peach (4/0/2100) and set a card face down. Now your dragon is about to change again, right?” Clovis was correct. The yellow dragon was sent to the graveyard like the rest and a green dragon took its place (Guiding Dragon - Green 4/1400/1800). “Green means go, so I guess it’s your turn.” “I see you’ve finally started to attempt to predict my moves. A little late, though. This duel has reached its end with this card. I play Dragon’s Mirror (Normal Spell), fusing together my three Guiding Dragons together so I can play... my Aurora Dragon Eos (8/2600/2600)!” The green dragon on her field, and the other two coloured dragons in her graveyard, were removed from the game by the spell card. But a much larger dragon seemed to drop down from the sun itself. Its body raised higher than any monster Clovis had seen yet, towering over them like they were mice. Clovis threw his arms up above his face to shield his eyes from the burst of multicoloured rays of light. “Eos, attack the Tanuki!” “Not so fast! I have my trap! I activate Spirit Lantern (Normal Trap)! It Turn Summons all the monsters on my field! My Troublesome Tanuki changes back into the Righteous Rabbit, and my Giant Peach transforms into Momotaro the Peach Boy (7/2700/2100)! When Momotaro is summoned, I can call one of his friends from my deck to the field, like the Momotaro Animal, Monkey (2/800/100)!” The blue and red armored samurai took a fighting stance. The other two monsters stood in defense position, ready to endure whatever attack was sure to come. “I’m still continuing my attack!” yelled Naomi. Her dragon raised its mouth towards the sun. Particles of light gathered into the gaping jaw. Suddenly, Eos swung its head down on the field, unleashing a beam of solar energy that flooded the field. Both Clovis and Noami had to shield themselves from this attack. When the attack finally ended, and Clovis lowered his arms, his Righteous Rabbit was gone. “Don’t think my turn is over just yet,” continued Noami. “I’m also using Burial from the Different Dimension (Quick-Play Spell) to put those three dragons I removed from the game back into my Graveyard. I guess I’ll have to destroy you next turn...” “Momotaro attacks Eos!” Clovis yelled, not even bothering to look at the card he drew. Momotaro kicked off from the ground, heading straight upward towards the dragon’s head. The dragon’s eyes glowed red, and Momotaro was hit with an invisible force, just like Righteous Rabbit had been. In a surge of red light, Momotaro was sent flying back to the ground. Clovis looked over to Naomi. She was sliding a card from her graveyard and removing it from play. “Oh, sorry, I forgot to mention. Eos can use the effects of any of my Guiding Dragons, I just have to remove that dragon from play. Clovis cursed under his breath. He was running out of Life Points and couldn’t even get in a single hit on Naomi. He wondered if his victory over Marcus was just a fluke. When he looked over into Naomi’s eyes, he could tell she was wondering the same thing. She had played this entire duel so well. Her strategy was flawless, she knew more about Clovis’s cards then even he did, and she predicted so many of his moves. Clovis now understood the difference between an Osiris Red and an Obelisk Blue. It was at that moment that the door to the roof flew open. An older man stepped through, his gazed shifted from Naomi to Clovis. “Hmm, a truant. You should be in class.” Clovis was clueless to who this person was, and he didn’t notice Naomi’s fearful face behind him. “Huh? Who’re-” Clovis was suddenly cut off by Naomi pushing passed him and stopping right in front of the man. “I’m sorry, Head Master Bahrei, sir. We were just dueling. We’ll never duel outside of class again, sir,” Naomi said with an apologetic bow between each sentence. Bahrei placed his hand and top of her head to stop her. “It is alright, Naomi. I would never discipline one of my precious Blues when a Red is obviously the cause of this truancy.” Bahrei turned his attention to Clovis. “Now, the proper discipline is in order...” NEXT TIME: The School Opening Festival and the ideal punishment! DUELIST SPOTLIGHT! This Chapter's Duelist: NaomiThis is Naomi’s third year at Duel Academy. Each year she’s advanced a level through the three houses; Red, Yellow, and Blue. Even though she is only a Blue this year, she was automatically invited to join the Cobalt Blues. In terms of personality Naomi often only thinks of herself and can be rather pushy when it comes to getting something she wants. He favourite type of cards are Quick-Play Spell Cards, especially ones that help her Dragons. Author’s Notes: Some changes here and there from the original chapter 2. I’ve decided to reveal the “Cobalt Blues” during the 2nd Chapter. I was originally not going to make Nathaniel’s organization known until much later on, but never got to it during the original “Final Fanfics”. Chapter 3 is going to completely rewritten and introduce some characters earlier. I am however going to keep the scenes the past readers found to be humourous. NEW CARDS USED: Clovis: - Thunder Breaker - Spirit Lantern - Call of the Haunted Naomi: - Luster Dragon - Guiding Dragon - Red- Guiding Dragon - Yellow- Guiding Dragon - Green - Aurora Dragon Eos- Dragonic Spectrum - Shrink- Burial from the Different Dimension - Dragon’s Mirror - Dust Tornado

Kocrow17
Shonen Jump Crossover Debut Chapter! Chapter Note, Shinigami: Shinigami exist in many different anime such as Bleach and Death Note. For the sake of not confusing one for the other, Shinigami from the Bleach universe will be called “Soul Reapers”, and Shinigami from the Death Note universe will be called “Death Gods”. Enjoy the story. Any others will be addressed as they appear. JUMP 1: What wonderful eyes you have! Shamans, Soul Reapers, and Death Gods. A small wisp of mist escaped her lips with each breath. The strain of continuously running was shortening her breathing and making her muscles cry out in pain. Her twin blonde ponytails bounced with each step in unison with her arms swinging back and forth. Her completely black attire blended her into the darkness, but not out of the sight of the monster chasing her. The blonde girl ducked down a corner and headed down an alleyway, hoping to lose the beast. But the sound of trash cans getting thrown about alerted her it was still in hot pursuit. A piece of thrown trash caught her ankle and she stumbled forward and landed hard. She twisted her body around to face the beast, backing up on her hands as the monster stumbled forward. The albino and humanoid abomination stood at least ten feet tall. Its long arms reached all the way to the ground. Each arm was set with red plates running down from shoulder to hand. It walked on its knuckles, curved blade-like fingers tucked in like a sloth’s. What was scariest about it was the white mask covering its face. The mask lacked eyes but the monster’s teeth-filled mouth was still visible. White spines poked out from atop its head and extended down its neck. It spoke, saying the most unusual of thing, “Yo.” “Y-y-yo?” stammered the girl. But the creature seemed enraged by her response. It raised both of its arms high above its head, spreading its blade-fingers, making it appear twice its height. The girl, paralyzed with fear, found herself unable to move. The creature descended its claws, and met with something that gave off a metallic ‘clang’. Standing over the girl was an orange haired teenager in a black outfit. He gripped a sword as large as he was over his head, supporting the monster’s talons. This man was Ichigo Kurosaki, a Soul Reaper.
“Back off, ugly!” ordered Ichigo. He pressed on his sword, pushing back his opponent’s ten blades. “...Yo,” said the monster. “He’s not a very smart either, even by Hollow standards,” added a second Soul Reaper. She had black hair that matched her outfit, which was identical to Ichigo’s.
“Rukia, I won’t need your help with this one,” Ichigo said, continuing his attack. He jumped into the air and swung his curved sword at the white Hollow. The Hollow responded by raising its red-plated arms in front of it in an “X”, blocking his attack. It then proceeded to quickly spread its arms to each side of it, throwing the Soul Reaper and his sword into one of discarded piles of trash. Rukia couldn’t help but laugh, adding, “Don’t need my help, huh?” “Hey, Shut up!” Ichigo said, picking himself up. He gripped his blade and pointed at his opponent. “It just got lucky.” The Hollow had completely forgotten about the girl it was previously pursuing. She was huddled into a ball, her face buried into her knees, sitting as close to the alley’s wall as she could. Rukia took notice of her and sighed. In her opinion, living human girls were not all that intelligent. Like how this one thought she could make the monster go away by not looking at it. Rukia then recalled some other examples, like a particularly ditzy one from Ichigo’s school. Ichigo pulled back his sword over his shoulder and made another charge. “STOP!” called a voice. Ichigo skidded to stop with great difficulty and started looking around. Standing at an entrance to the alleyway was a shorter teenager with black hair. He walked forward, his sandals pounding against the road. A sheathed sword was in his left hand, and a large pair of orange headphones balanced on his head just behind his ears. “Don’t hurt him,” he said to Ichigo. “Y-You can see us?” asked Rukia. “Yeah, and I can see HIM too...” the stranger stopped in front of the Hollow and looked at his mask, where the mask lacked eye-holes. “It’s me, Amidimaru.” “Yoh...” The Hollow, now identified as Amidimaru, seemed to calm itself down. However, it was still looking around, trying to find the source of the voice, Yoh, his former shaman. It seemed it truly did lack sight, but still strained for visual relief.
“Please move out of the way,” said Rukia. “Friend or not, we have a job to do.” Rukia placed her hand on the hilt of her own sword. But was caught off guard by strings of beads falling around her. The coils beads tightened against her body, restraining her like they were rope. “Wha- spirit beads?!” “Job or not, we’re helping our friend,” said a new female voice. A girl wearing a red bandana stood behind Rukia. A string of beads lead from Rukia to her hands. “I can summon spirit back from heaven, but not after they’ve been turned into something like this. If you pass him on, we lose him forever.”
“Thanks, Anna,” Yoh thanked the new girl, not looking away from Amidimaru. When Amidimaru lowered its head, still attempting to find Yoh, Yoh placed his right hand on the edge of the mask. Amidimaru stopped moving, having found his ally. “These beads... summoning spirits... you’re shamans! That explains why you can see us!” Rukia deduced. “What’s a shaman?” asked Ichigo, clueless. “Never mind!” screamed Rukia. “I won’t be able to escape from these beads! You have to get rid of that Hollow, not matter what! Go now-” Rukia was interrupted by thin rays of energy escaping from the surfacing spaces between Amidimaru’s face and the mask he was wearing. “Hurry, Ichigo! He’s taking off its mask!” “What? What happens then?” asked Ichigo. “Just go!” Ichigo ran at Amidimaru, sword raised. Yoh let go of the mask he was slowly peeling off and turned to face the approaching Soul Reaper. Yoh drew his katana, throwing the sheath aside, and gripped his sword with both hands. “Stay back! I won’t let you hurt him!” Yoh ordered Ichigo. “Back off!” Ichigo yelled back. He changed his directive to Yoh. It was clear he wasn’t getting near the Hollow without moving the ‘shaman’ out of way. Yoh noticed this and started a steady pace towards Ichigo. “Just leave us alone!” “Move out of my way!” An tremendous impact ruptured between the two. Not from their blades, but the crashing of Amidimaru’s arm directly from above. It’s palm lay flat on the cement beneath it, fingers spread out, causing the ground to cave inward and crack. The shockwave sent Yoh tumbling back, and sent Ichigo flying back into the same pile of garbage. Ichigo to roared out in frustration, yelling, “not again!” “I-it protected him?” Rukia asked in astonishment. “You see?” Anna asked her. “Our friend is still in there. We’re not going to give up on him, because even now that he’s turned into this, he still considers us friends.” Rukia thought about her previous conclusion on living human girls, and decided, there were some exceptions. The air itself tore back like a piece of paper behind Amidimaru. The Hollow reluctantly walked through the new escape way, looking back over his shoulder all the while. Yoh hoisted himself up just in time to see the gateway close behind his ally. “...Anna,” Yoh said, staring at the ground. “It’s alright Yoh,” Anna replied, unwinding the beads from Rukia with a flick of her wrist. “We’ll get him back.” Yoh picked up his abandoned scabbard and sheathed his sword. Him and Anna started walking towards the main street. “We’re just gonna let them go?” asked Ichigo, rejoining Rukia. “Yes, but we’re going to have keep an eye out for them in the future. Even though they’re shamans, they have no idea what they almost did.” “What do you mean?” “A shaman acts as a medium between this world and the spirit world. They allow ghosts to posses their bodies and objects. But they don’t know anything about Hollows. If they had removed its mask, then we’d be in trouble.” “Arrancar, right? But I thought that only happened when a Hollow removed its own mask.” “Yes, but if that Hollow was a ‘spirit ally’ as a ghost, the shaman has to remove its mask for it. In that case, a Ciego Arrancar would be created. The difference between it and a regular-” Rukia was cut off yet again. This time by the blonde girl from before who had finally come out of her hiding spot. She wrapped her arms around Rukia’s waste. “Oh, thank you! Thank you for coming to Misa’s rescue!” she said happily. “You can see us too?” Rukia asked, trying to pry herself from Misa’s grip. Misa finally let go and smiled saying, “Yup! Misa’s eyes are really special!”
“Eyes? Wait, let me see them.” Rukia gripped Misa’s cheeks with her thumb and index finger. Misa didn’t enjoy this. “Yours eyes!” “That’s what Misa said!” Misa batted Rukia’s hand away and walked over to Ichigo. She leant over and gently planted a kiss on his cheek. “Thank you too, orange haired samurai! Bye!” Ichigo and Rukia weren’t sure how to respond, even as Misa happily skipped down the alley as if nothing bad had happened. “Ichigo, this is bad.” “I thought the shamans were the bad news...” “This is worse. That girl, has the eyes of a Death God.” “Death God?” “Death Gods are the number one enemy of the Soul Reapers. They kill humans randomly to extend their own life span, and create ghosts that turn into Hollows at a fast rate. Death Gods are chaotic and can’t be controlled. What’s worse of all, we can’t stop them. We can’t see them, and they’re impossible for us to kill.” “So that girl was a Death God?” “No, she’s human. But she’s made a deal with a Death God to gain its eyes. Death Gods usually stay in their own world, but if there’s a possibility of one being here, we have to alert Soul Society right away.” Ichigo sighed. Tonight was supposed to be a simple night of Hollow-slaying, but it had somehow changed into a night of falling into trash, memorizing new words, and even new enemies. * * * * * Misa turned the corner in an alley and instantly pulled out her cell phone. After a moment of holding the phone to her hear, a voice greeted her on the other line. “Misa did exactly what you said!” she said happily. “Misa showed them her eyes. They seemed very interested.” “Just as planned,” said the man on the other line. “Good work, Misa. The two of you can come home. They’ll be watching us.” Misa closed her phone and started walking again. She stopped suddenly after a second, remembering something. She reached into her pocket, pulled out an apple, and tossed it over her shoulder. The apple stopped falling, hovering in mid-air. A large bite mark appeared in it and an unseen being said, “Mmm, juicy.” Author’s Note: I hope you all enjoyed this debut chapter of my Shonen Jump Crossover. I could especially use some feedback on my dialogue. I tried to make the characters sound and act like they normally would and attempted to weave humour into the story every now and then. If you have any ideas, question, suggestions, or comments about the story, please post!
