KH good or bad?

Hey everybody! I was thinking of getting Kingdom Hearts for PS2, cuz I heard it was good from my friend, so I want some other peoples opinions.I'm buying it off ebay along with KH2 with it. The internet's the only way for me to get it now, because it's out of print. So just give me your opinions please.

Oh and if this is in the wrong section, could a mod please move it?

My hours clocked to beat:

KH1> 23hrs

KH2> 9hrs

Great games though ^_^ Definitely worth getting

@Pikaperson: That is a drawback but if ignored it can be a great ^_^

Some people appreciate it, others don't. I, for one, do.

I'll put it to you like this:

KH1 - If you want a challenging game you can clock several hours into and have lots of replay value as well, this probably isn't for you. If you want a game with an interesting plot and good story development (with a hint of nostalgia), then it's a great game. The gameplay is a little meh (the camera is wonky), but I still like it.

Kingdom Hearts: Chain Of Memories - Don't forget this one! It's an in-between story for KH1 and KH2. Again, not a lot of replay value, and (if you get the version for the GBA), the gameplay is a little repetitive. Also, it's kinda easy. But a good story. The Japanese PS2 remake is tons better though, but if you can't read/understand Japanese, are too lazy to get a translated script, or just don't want to mod your PS2, then wait for it to come out in English (it's in development).

KH2 - Now this one is a gem in my opinion. Still no real replay value, but the gameplay is so much more engaging. There are a ton of minigames along the way that you can play to keep things interesting, and the Story is amazing (especially when compared to the KH1). The battle system has been tweaked for the WAY better, there are more actions Sora can perform as the game progresses, the camera was finally fixed, and the overall playability skyrocketed from its KH1 counterpart. Also, some parts of the game are genuinely challenging. Provided you're up for the modding and translating, you could get the Final Mix version, which comes with 18 additional Boss fights, (14 of which are exceedingly hard), tons of extras, a slew of extra scenes, and a new Secret Ending. The Final Mix version also lets you save Clear Data, which unlocks a few goodies.

So in conclusion, if you want a game with lots of replay value and plenty of non-linear action, KH1 and CoM prolly aren't for you (KH2 is much less linear though, as you have more options). If you want a hella good story that sucks you in, these games ARE for you.

There's my 2 cents.

@Aeon: A game being linear has nothing to do with the game play. It has to do with the story. So when saying a game is linear, it pretty means there is only one path for you the whole game. So until the end of the game, it would be something like, "you must go here, then here, then here, then here, then here or here, but you'll have to do both back-to-back, so it doesn't matter. After you beat that, you have to do this, then this, then this, and then finally this. Then you can finally do whatever you want, or just beat the final boss". While I'm on it's story, I did like it was possible to skip cutscenes. Not a lot of RPGs I know of off the top of my head have that. And after losing to Xaldin half a dozen or so times on Proud Mode, the scene before you fought him got old pretty quick.

Huh. Guess I misinterpretted linear. Oh well, doesn't matter to me, lol.

Anyway, yeah, I was happy they added the scene skip feature - I hated watching scenes again and again on KH1.

._. And Clariex, I find CoM Very easy. It's only kind of challenging on the PS2 remake, and that's only on proud mode. (also, they carried scene skip over to Re: CoM too, yayz).

Adding to what Aeon said....

I've played the first KH at least 5 times through, probably more

I've never played KH:Final Mix (yet....)

I've beaten Chain of Memories (including Reverse Rebirth) too many times to remember

I've played through KH2 probably about 10 times

I've gone through Re: CoM twice as Sora, and once as Riku

I've played KH2: Final Mix twice

Lol, I'm only just working on my first Riku playthrough on Re: CoM, then I plan to do another with Sora. My Sora file is pretty complete though, as before I beat Marluxia, I went out and obtained every reward card. All that's left is getting Ultima, Diamond Dust, One-Winged Angel, and then the Ansem, Lexaeus, and Zexion enemy cards.

=3 I'm not gonna play through KH2 Final Mix again until I finishe beating Xemnas, Roxas, and Terra (which is hard, since it's critical mode).

o_O Yeah, another thing Seth, if you get the FM version of KH2, and want a challenge, play Critical mode. That'll be all the challenge you need.

So lets see:

KH1 - 4 times

KH1 FM - once

CoM - xD Like Clariex, I lost count.

Re: CoM - once with Sora so far, working on Riku.

KH2 - 8

KH2 FM - once so far
