Music In Our Life.

Death Metal

Recommended Posts

As you all know most cliques are separated because they have a different taste in music. Why do you think music influences our life? Discuss.

Music obviously foregrounds the person you build yourself to be.

You derive sub-cultures based upon the style and musical sound of those you listen to.

Essentially, Music's just preaching with rhythm. They preach there message, with a beat or whatever supporting it. The lyric presented in the music counters with the personality of the listener.

I for example listen to... Well, kind of afraid to say Linkin Park around you, even though they are my favorite band..

Still, Disturbed, Wish for Wings, and anything between, I would horribly mosh to. =/.

This builds up me, since in Real life, I fringe my hair, scream alot, and.. Well, Get drunk. (Damn you Dragonforce. -_-". They aren't even good enough of a band to influence me like that. O.o".)

Anyway.

The lyrical input music has on us effects what we do in certain situations.

So yeah, music shapes our lives, but doesn't control it.

Or something epic to finish this off. O.O.

.. Yeah.

Music has existed since the cavemen times' date=' where they make music themselves.

Music has since become an important part of society & human culture.

It is also a way of self-expression.

[/quote']

Huh. You know, after reading that, I realized that you didn't contribute a damn thing.

.. Yeah. You didn't. So.. Stay on-topic.. ? :).

Even better: Don't debate.

Anyway.

Yoshi, I concur with what you said, as in, music is but a fragment of what makes you yourself.

However, I find music to be the source of what else makes you what you are.

You're hobbies, style, and everything else is based/derived off of musical taste.

As I said before, the singer in the music is essentially preaching a message of sorts that he/she supports.

Prolonged listening to this causes sub-conscious effects upon you, moulding your style, ideals, and actions to those based upon the music you listen to.

.. Yeah?

While I do certainly understand what you are saying, 2sick, I wouldn't go so far as to say that simply because you listen to music x your are person x.

For example, I'm an avid listener of all ranges of rock and metal. I enjoy Disturbed, Slipknot, Mushroomhead, Linkin Park, Rob Zombie, Manson, etc. However, I certainly do not espouse the views of Manson or Rob Zombie. I don't even identify with the goth or heavy metaler sub cultures. I wear "normal" clothes and, for the most part, hang out with "normal" people.

Making it a habit of countering me, eh? :D.

Okay.

I'll re-invent my point.

I think it's fair to say that the music that you listen to allows people to stereotype who you are, but that may or may not be who you actually are. If.. That makes sense. =].

I think it's also fair to say that our lives are always influenced by something, and music mightn't always be the prime case of it. Living on a technologically dry area, like a farm, might leave you without music for pretty much the growing stages of your life. Therefore, other things, like parents and your surroundings, influence you to be that farm-guy you are. Music is just a dominant influence, with it being such a dominant industry and all. :D.

I agree that music is a factor in our life, it can shape us a persons, people are often separated into groups according to what kind of music they listen to, People who listen to heavy metal hang out together, people who listen to rap hang together.

But i don't think that music alone shapes us, our parents make us into the people we are, i was a really difficult child when i was starting school but due to my parents not music I have become much calmer and a much better person.

so to sum it up, music can shape you in certain ways but what really shapes us are our parents and the enviroment you live in.

Your personality isn't based off the music you listen to, and your social status isn't either. It's actually the other way around. The music you listen to is based off of your personality and the social group you are in also builds foundation for the music you will potentially listen to. That's why different people like different music.

Okay, using my re-invented point..

The stereotyping of who you are by the music you listen to is probable, and yes, it works the other way around. (As in, "The person you are allows people to stereotype what music you listen to.") It's a too pronged thing, both are built up by the other. However, I say music changes a persons current outlook/style. It originates with music, which in turn originates with you who are. But then again, the changing of who you are into who you become originates with music.

It's.. through that kind of weird dribble that I can logically think that music shapes a persons out-look and personality, at least stereotypically.

:D? Yeah?

You're an ass.

Lol.

Lol.

I knew you wouldn't. ^_^.

It's my new debate-counter.

Stepz at winning debates:

1. Trap them.

2. Say something completely douche-baggy.

3. ....

4. Win.

:D.

Anyway, I was trying to say, is that what you said.. With the whole "Who we are determines what music we listen to." over "Music determines who we are." is essentially the same thing.

I'm not going to go into it, since I'd appear to be smoking more crack than.. Than.. Whitney Houston?

=].

EDIT: Understand a single sentence now? :D

3. ....

4. Win. confuse the ever-living-sheet out of them, making me win by technicality

I fixed your steps the way I wanted to :P

And the two are completely different things. The thought that your personality deciphers your music would be a meaning depicted as me listening to a certain type of music due to the way my brain functions.

Music determining what your personality is like doesn't make as much sense.

Lol. Okay, we'll play that way. :P.

They are not two completely different things.

Okay, in terms of determining your personality, they are.

But music influences, and creates the general image of your personality.

My point being: Music choices one makes influences other peoples stereotypes of them.

Eg.

Listening to gangster music provokes the rough, hip-hop personality/stereotype.

Have I made sense yet? Or do I have to tag your entire post with sufficient ass?

:D.

Your personality also depicts what music you listen to.

In turn, music influences your personality, based upon..

You know what, Screw it.

:D.

I can't really see logic reasoning behind the point I'm trying to make.

Basically, Personality comes before music, therefore, it's personality that influences music, not music that influences personality.

I still think music influences personalities, and sub-culture "Group" decisions in a major way, but then again, I might be off a little.
