Righteo, well enlight of the more recent events that have taken place on the site, I have decided to make my own opinions regarding these two things clear to everyone and perhaps to propose something better for everyone. My first point is with regards to the Reputation System, in which I clearly see no reason to keep this around any longer, it is merely a way for members new and old to spam and also make people seem popular or great.

Although it is true some of these members are, in a lot of cases most of the reputation given is UNJUSTIFIED to the point it is given for no reason at all. Just as Dj may have unjustly removed certain members points, these reputation points were given unjustly and therefore another reason to why this system should be abolished.

Now we come to points, this of course was the main issue recently with Dj removing points. In my opinon points really don't serve much of a purpose if any purpose at all, the only real purpose the points serve for is a reason for members to spam, to change your username, and to pay for things in shops and for requests. Ultimately the points themselves could be abolished and it wouldn't really make a difference.

The only way I feel the points could have a chance of actually having a real use on this site, is by adding a somewhat automated shop, in which members could pay for name changes, and other cool forum features which would give the points somewhat more value, in addition if a name changes list was recorded for each member then it would make life easier for everyone as well.

Discuss!

Meh, I have mixed feelings about it.

All of the points you made are reasonable and I understand it, but I wouldn't go as far as removing them. I mean what about card contest? What would they give out...a pat on the back? Doesn't really seem like a prize to me. Some shops could possibly give-up and we could lose members. But I dunno either way I'll stay on YCM. Let the people decide I suppose.

lol Yeah... Points is a currency so it can stay as far as I see it...

Reps can go lol...

The rest of my points you have heard on MSN already...

I can see getting rid of points, but the reps would be bad to get rid of. Getting rid of those would also kill the contest section, and make some members have no reason to be good members. I know this doesn't sound right, but its what I think.

I think -

points - go

reps - stay

^_^

(You have also seen my idea for reps and such on msn, that may work for reps to ;))

Burn It Down, that was the suggestion I made except without using Paypal, rofl. Well Darth actually asked me what could be used if they were abolished, I suggested perhaps actual forum awards for getting first, second, third place. This would still give you that feel of acomplishment, without anything getting abused as it could only really be given for an actual contest, but yeah.

I'm pretty sure that isn't the case as their settings can be edited, therefore you could simply disable them which would be the same as removing them. Put it this way...just because I have 90+ Reputation Points doesn't really mean I make a good Moderator, I could be a terrible Moderator although some people think I am a terrible Moderator but my point is that the Reputation Points don't mean a lot when you think about it.

Maybe have a mod check all donations before they are made? :?

That wouldn't be worth the effort. :| Imagine having to check through every single donation........zzZZzzzZZZzzzZZZzzz

Nothing means a lot when you think about it.

Why get rid of either?

It would just be a pointless effort. It wouldn't solve anything; people are always going to find things to jabroni about.

What exactly does removing them have to do with people complaining, of course they will complain it's human nature. I would just rather there be some more USE to the features to keep them around such as the automated shop for points. Therefore this is more about the use of the features, now giving them but I suppose to some respect it can include that.

Something tells me in the end it's still YCMaker's decision as it is his/her/its site. So waiting 2 months for the response PM from YCMaker might put this plan into halt.

I thought that the whole reason this was brought up was because of the whole "DJ Osiris is a bad guy!" thing. :|

I still say paypal would be the best option...

If we could keep the points system and paypal, we would be doing something.

I would rather get something of monetary value.

I get what you are saying there Burn It Down, if there was actually something you could pay for then it might make a bit more sense. And yes you may be right about that Death Metal, however I have noticed when lots of people are for it and really discuss it then things get done about it, and of course staff discussion can also be done too.
