Lets see reps are rewards for good behavior(or bad) and points are the only way to buy things on the fourm.Getting rid of either wouldnt be good.

Yes there would' date=' giving points :?

[/quote']

They both have ups and downs.

Lets explore, yeah?

Okay.

Reps.

Pro:

-Provide merit.

-Award.

-Prize for contest.

-Gives sense of self-accomplishment.

-Shows care.

Con:

-Abusable. (Huh, not actually a word. For the sake of this, it is. :D.)

-Not everyone cares.

-Expectations for giving a rep are ass tight.

-An apparently lesser known fact: they don't do anything.

-Lead to pre-judgement and stereotyping based solely on the reps a person has.

points.

Pro:

-Again, more than average points show success, especially in either graphic design or card-making.

-A prize for contests.

-"Currency." Used for certain, (Not varied.) things. (Name change.. Etc.)

-Scarface principal. (Money power woman. Naturally, if everyone got a crapload of points, then everyone became a mod, the site would have more bewbs than all of clariex's posts combined. No, this isn't a serious Pro. :).)

Con:

-Can get you in sh*t, based solely on lack of rule information. (well, this is recent, but eh.)

-Demonstrates success, therefore, those without or normal amounts can be seen as unsuccessful.

-Can't do anything besides sit there, and make your rep look alot less masculant.

-Willie has more than me.

Okay.

So, if you add it up, there is more.. Pro to it, whilst the con's they have.. are worse than the good of the pro's.

However, every forum needs rewards for contests and being awesome.

Thus, these are needed.

At least, as a dummy until a better system is implemented.

(If there is one.)

Meh.

I'm happy with it,

just not the scam-ability they come with.

The only way I feel the points could have a chance of actually having a real use on this site' date=' is by adding a somewhat automated shop, in which members could pay for name changes, and other cool forum features which would give the points somewhat more value, in addition if a name changes list was recorded for each member then it would make life easier for everyone as well.

Reps - I see no point in keeping them. They're just used to elevate some members above the rest of us, and the remainders get unjustly overshadowed. They need to go.

Points - Keep 'em. They're used for graphic shops and name changes. The system hasn't failed yet. However, you might want to expand their uses. I like the automated shop idea.

Reputation as I have clearly stated has no purpose' date=' at least in my eyes. Also I have given my opinion on what could give the points themselves a reason to stick around.

[/quote']

Agreed.

Abolish them both. They are not needed, yes, even Points are not needed, Points do not mean anything.

You mean like IPBFree's got? Yeah, that would be awesome, and a good reason to keep Points.

^ Yes with a nice big revolving door and a portly doorman called steve who welcomes you everytime you enter. We also have a massive fountain in the lobby and moving walkways to help you get to your destination quicker =)

XD

So' date=' who is YCMaker REALLY?!

[/quote']

That would be either the portly doorman or the guy at the front desk.

I can see getting rid of points' date=' but the reps would be bad to get rid of. Getting rid of those would also kill the contest section, and make some members have no reason to be good members. I know this doesn't sound right, but its what I think.

I think -

points - go

reps - stay

^_^

(You have also seen my idea for reps and such on msn, that may work for reps to ;))

[/quote']

That's a terrible idea. Think. People go the shops, and they order and order, reps can't be given out like candy. That's why we have points, so rep numbers don't overflow.

If anything goes, the send reps away. They're a pain in the neck. >.< Cause people automatically say people with alot of reps are popular.

^ That's not true.

Not everybody with a lot of reps is popular. :|

It's just that really cool people get a lot of reps. Glasstin10 didn't get popular because of all his reps; he got popular for being nice and helpful.

Really they are both necessary. Reps are good to have so you can post feedback about the persons behavior (good or bad) points are good because they're the only form of currency on this website.

Trust me, reps are just as good to have as points.
