Dark
This is a long explanation about Hurricanes. This is for extra credit in my Science class... so... bear with me. Hurricanes- What are they? Hurricanes are basically, "Torandos on Water". That is because of the way they are formed. Hot, moist air from the east (the Sahara) mixes with cool, ocean air from the west, the Atlantic Ocean. This influx of air creates almost a "torando" on top of the water. The low air pressure in the eye, or center, of the torando sucks up the surface water and creates storm surges. The hurricane then moves onto land. Hurricanes- Steps Hurricanes don't form willy-nilly, there is a presice plan for them to form. First, it starts out as a Tropical Disturbance. And like the name suggests, it is just a disturbance. It is basically a collection of a few thunderstorms. Then, when they collect, it becomes a Tropical Depression. The wind speeds are low, under 40 MPH. When the wind speeds pick up, about 40~70 MPH, it is a Tropical Storm. Once wind speeds get higher, about 74+ MPH, it becomes a hurricane. Hurricanes- Categories Once hurricanes become... hurricanes... they are catorgorized with a number between 1 and 5. 1 is the least destructive and 5 is the most. QUICK FACT- Hurricane Katrina was only a category 3 when it hit New Orleans. It was a category 5 when it was in the Gulf of Mexico. Here is some info about hurricane categorys... Category 1- Wind Speeds 74-95 MPH.Category 2- Wind Speeds 96-110 MPH.Category 3- Wind Speeds 111-130 MPH.Category 4- Wind Speeds 131-155 MPH.Category 5. Wind Speeds 155+ MPH. Hurricanes- Destruction... More Coming Soon... Storm surges are the big waves created by a hurricane. They can range from 4~5 FT. to 18 FT. I hope you enjoyed this quick info thread about hurricanes. Dark
LOL, sorry that is an error. The Sahara is on the EAST and the Atlantic is on the west. I am gonna fix that now... -_-''

Lazer Yoshi
TOO MUCH LEARNING!!!But it is sorta interesting, but do you think people on a Children's Card Game Forum really enjoy learning?
Mariojo2
"...when the hot air of the Sahara meets the relatively cool air of southern Africa and the Atlantic..." to be more precise.
Dark
Yes, but I dun wanna be more precise!!! -_-'' And @ Yoshi... some people actually want to learn. I find this topic particularly interesting.
Lazer Yoshi
^ Well, YGOTAS XDBut it is pretty good scientific information. I might use this for my project. If I get a good grade, I'll give you some reps :DMaybe I'll post something about Duststorms :P

Dark
Excuse me, but ANYONE can edit Wikipedia. That means a hobo (with a computer) can edit everything on Wikipedia. And once, a long time ago, it said the Declaration of Independance was signed in 1777. And that info was on Wikipedia. So I never use Wikipedia, due to the fact that any moron can edit it. Nice article' date=' though.[/quote'] 2, and a tropical storm, last I heard. ^_^ I havnt been paying much attention to it though... Nice artical. But I dont think I can quote you in my science paper. Archbaron Larry
I live in Michigan, and we just got some Ike impact yesterday. It was raining when I woke up, and went to bed. At like 8:30-9:00 PM it was really bad.
Dark
I am in Boston, so I barely need to worry about hurricanes. But mostly, Florida, Texas and states surrounding the Gulf of Mexico get hit with them. The warm, sea water in the Gulf fuels a hurricane. That is why Gustav did major damage in Florida. And you guys CAN quote me, cuz I got this info from a worksheet my teacher gave me! Hurray for Mr. A!
