SushiTheLegend
Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Maker GuideBook -- PART 1 -- REALISTIC CARDS Well hello everyone, this is SushiTheLegend and this is the first part to what I call the "Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Maker GuideBook", in this little GuideBook I will be explaining all sorts of things, the main things will be focusing on the different sections of the forum, and what we expect you to do when you post cards and other things. This will not include anything outside of cards and sets, so don't think this is a guide for anything else. In the part of my guide you will learn about REALISTIC CARDS, now when some people come across this section, they think it's to post cards that are actually real, however this isn't what we mean by realistic. When we define the word REALISTIC and BALANCED, we are firstly refering to cards that you have made, secondly we are refering to a card that if it were to be made into a real card by Konami or any other company that by looking at it you would beleive it was real. In my time I have bought some very poorly made ripoff cards. I know a friend of mine who also has ripoff cards and what makes them noticable is that they just don't look realistic, like names will be wrong or other important details. The next thing you need to think about is, when making a monster card think about your monster's ATK and DEF points. To determine what these should be think about your monster's LV. You arn't going to make a LV4 monster have 4000/4000. This would be completely stupid and overpowered and thus not realistic. Now the next part to this, is that you need to think about Effect Monsters, now when thinking up an effect for your monster, you need to try and be reasonable with your effects, something that makes you win the duel automatically is just stupid. However something that for example lets you summon 1 "Dragon-Type Monster" by sacrifising that card is a more reasonable and balanced effect, something that has this kind of effect will probably be a LV3 or lower, and will probably have a very weak ATK and DEF. Please also remember everything thus far about monsters is included for Ritual Monsters, the only difference is that Ritual Monsters will ALWAYS include the card summoning requirement. Now here is an example of a Ritual Monster card description taken from Black Luster Soldier, "This monster can only be Ritual Summoned with the Ritual Spell Card, "Black Luster Ritual". You must also offer monsters whose total Level Stars equal 8 or more as a Tribute from the field or your hand." and as you can see this makes the card very realistic indeed, also notice that Black Luster Soldier is a LV8 monster with an ATK and DEF of 3000/2500, this is reasonable for it's LV and the fact that it is only a Normal Ritual Monster. The next thing I would like to discuss is the matter of Spell and Trap cards. When dealing with Spell and Trap cards you need to take into consideration the card's effect, quite similarly to Effect Monsters, for example a Spell Card that would put all 5 pieces of Exodia in your hand would be silly, however a card such as "Ruthless Denial" which makes you send a monster on your side of the field to the Graveyard so you can send a random card in your opponent's hand to the Graveyard is more reasonable, also make sure to use the correct Spell and Trap symbols for cards. And finally remember that Ritual Spell Cards will have something like this, "This card is used to Ritual Summon "Legendary Flame Lord." You must also Tribute monsters whose total Levels equal 7 or more from the field or your hand.". I'm going to make a little notice about Fusion Monsters now, remember you must make sure you follow the guidelines for Normal Monsters and Effect Monsters when making a Fusion Monster, the additional extra is that you must state the Fusion Material Monsters on your card, for example Elemental Hero Necroid Shamen says ""Elemental Hero Wildheart" + "Elemental Hero Necroshade"This monster cannot be Special Summoned except by Fusion Summon. When this card is Special Summoned, destroy 1 monster on your opponent's side of the field. Then select 1 monster from your opponent's Graveyard and Special Summon it to your opponent's side of the field." and you must always remember to add your ""s around your Fusion Material Monsters as well. Finally the last thing I will go over with you is about Grammar, now as far as things go, you may think that Grammar sucks and that you don't want to use Grammar. However if you do plan on posting in the Realistic Cards section, remember that as a Realistic Card this also means that Grammar is to be included. If you don't want to use Grammar, then don't bother posting in the Realistic Section. Also one other thing I will discuss with you is that this section is for cards that have originality, even if they are based on Real Life Cards but are for example a support for cards like Vechiroids, however cards that are about Animes and Movies and the likes DO NOT belong here, below are some examples of some REALISTIC CARDS that others have made. -- Last Updated 18/08/07 --

gungeransu
But... with ritual monsters... sure, Black Luster Soldier says the requirements, but newer ritual monsters, like Demise, King of Armageddon, don't include the requirement. Only the spell does, so... I'm confused. Do they need them or not?

SushiTheLegend
But... with ritual monsters... sure' date=' Black Luster Soldier says the requirements, but newer ritual monsters, like Demise, King of Armageddon, don't include the requirement. Only the spell does, so... I'm confused. Do they need them or not?[/quote'] This is generally because the newer ritual monsters are almost always effect monsters, so they have generally left it out assumingly because of the effects. However it is still a good idea to include the summoning requirements.
