Guest PikaPerson01
Start with the statement that a = b, and neither a or b equals 0. a = b Multiply each side by a. a² = ab Subtract b². a² - b² = ab - b² Factor out both sides. (a + b)(a - b) = b(a - b) Divide by (a - b). a + b = b Since a = b, then: b + b = b Combine like terms. 2b = b Divide by b. 2 = 1 Tectonix ERROR! Dividing by a zero is a huge no-no in basic arithmetic.
Chinotornes
I loooooove these they are cool and difficult to figure out/comprehend i often confuse my friends using the going back in time to do something is pointless because if you do it you wouldn't have a reason to go back in the first place, so you never did. but then because you didn't do it then you have reason to do it again so you do etc... Willieh
This one always got me-----Three men walk into a hotel looking for a room. The receptionist tells them that there is only one room, and that it cost $30. They pay $10 each, and head to their room for the night.Later, the receptionist realizes that he over charged them by $5, so he gives the money to the bellhop instructing him to return it to the 3 men.The bell hop, on his way to the room, realizes that there is no way to split the bill 3 ways, puts $2 in his pocket and doesn't tell the men about it, rationalizing that he is doing them a favor. After getting their money back, each of the men has spent $9, totaling $27 spent for the room. The bellhop put $2 in his pocket to bring the total to $29. What happened to the last dollar? ----- The thing about it is that there is NO answer. Nothing happened to the last dollar.

Willieh
THE BEST PARADOX AND THE SIMPLEST ONE: "Is the answer to this question no?" If you answer yes, then you've answered incorrectly because your answer isn't no. If you answer no, then you've answered incorrectly because your answer isn't yes. The price was 25 for the room and 2 for the bellboy's "tip", equaling 27. There is no reason to count the bellboy's tip once again. You're now looking for the remaining 3 dollars, which should be in the hands of the three men. Bolded sentences were obviously just thrown in to add confusion. Flinsbon
Are there none left because they each took a PEAR/PAIR? EDIT: Never mind, I got it, though someone below me did, too. There are none left. It specifically says "each" and only "each" because they were out riding, which suggest they were on horses, donkeys, etc. So each King took a pear and each animal took one as well.
