Back to Japan We Go... (5 +reps for first)

bury the year

Recommended Posts

Introduction: OK. I'm doing another one of my fun, wacked-out contests. It's actually quite simple.

What to Do: You must make 1 monster and 1 spell or trap. The monster must be a Spirit. The spell or trap must support the Spirit type. Even more importantly, both must be based around a Japanese folk-tale, superstition, culture, mythology, etc. It basically has to come from Japanese heritage. (The two can be from different sources.) When you reserve an entry, please post what you are basing your cards around, and a link if possible.

For those who don't know what Spirit monsters are, they have the sub-type Spirit, and always have this at the beginning of their effect:

"This card cannot be Special Summoned. This card returns to your hand during the End Phase of the turn that it was Normal Summoned or flipped face-up."

Judging: I will be judging on the normal stuff, and also how your cards fit in with their subjects. (You'll get bonus points if you can make the spirit background, though. ;))

Prizes:

  • 1st - 5 +reps
  • 2nd - Nothing.
  • 3rd - Nothing.

You heard me. Only 1st place gets the reps. 2nd doesn't count except in horseshoes and hand grenades, and this is a children's card game.

End Date: Your cards are due Sunday, October 19.

Reserved Entries:

  • «Haruki Adachi» - Tale of the Bamboo Cutter
  • nubcakez - Kamaitachi

This card cannot be Special Summoned. This card returns to the owner's hand during the End Phase of the turn that this card is Normal Summoned or flipped face-up. A monster battles with this card does not get destroyed by this monster in battle and the Battle Damage inflicted to your opponent is doubled. If a Spell or Trap Card on your opponent's field is in the same column as the monster you attacked in this turn with this card, destroy it.

This card can only be activated when 1 Spirit monster you control returns to your hand. You can equip that Spirit monster to 1 monster on the field instead of returning it to your hand. The equipped monster gains ATK equal to halve the ATK of the Spirit monster. During your next Standby Phase, destroy the equipped monster and Special Summon the Spirit monster to your field in Attack Position. You cannot Normal Summon during the turn that you Special Summoned a Spirit monster with this card's effect.

I base this first card off the Japanese Superstition of "Maneki Neko".

This Cat has been known to Bring good fortune, which is why the effect

gives you some Life Points. It is said a raised "Right" Paw brings in Money.
