a) The Milky Way has a diameter of 100,000 light years. How many kilometers is this?

e) The distance between the Earth and Mars is approximately 7.8 x 10 to the 7th power kilometers. Estimate the time it would take for light years to travel from Mars to the earth. Remember that the light travels 3 x 10 to the 5th power kilometers per second. Calculate the answer using scientific notation rounding to the nearest tenth. Write the answer as a standard numeral.

Sigh. Homework is supposed to be done yourself. It is easy. If one light year is 9 trillion kms, just multiply 9 trillion by the number of light years.

for E) i think you should just put 7.8*10 in the 7th power divided by 3*10 in the 5th power to see how many seconds it will take.

I know what you mean but don't know how to answer it. My guess is make them into real numbers and than find you answer fomr that when you get your final answer but it in scientific notation
