Story Thus Far...

[spoiler=Intro]You wake up, groggy. You don't remember much...you seem to be in a dark room with a dirt floor. There are others around you. A door on the far side of the room opens, a bright light shines through, you squint and see the figure of a man standing in the doorway. As your eyes adjust, you see it is a bald man, covered in scars. He looks tough. "Greetings whelps!" he booms. "I am Overseer Gan."

"Where are we?" asks one of the people you woke up with.

"You are in Rome, whelp! The greatest city in the world!" replied Gan, "And you have the honor, nay the privilege to fight for the pleasure of the great Augustus Caesar!"

"The emperor bores of the fierce gladiators, and seeks something new. He brought in Egyptian Sorcerers", he spat on the ground in disgust, "to see the great monster battles that are heard of. But instead of having them fight, he requested that they use their sorcery to bring forth the most talented monster-wielders in all of time and space! This is what they bring us." Gan sneered, looking at all of you. "You wouldn't last a day in the legions.", he scoffed.

"For such a grand occasion, our great emperor has provided a new sort of arena for you to fight in...one made by the same sorcery that brought you here. It can take many forms, and bring some of nature's harshest elements into play. Your first battle is in 3 days. The arena set is a labyrinth...but not just any labyrinth! A labyrinth of ice!" Gan guffaws, "So good luck whelps!"

Still laughing, he leaves.

[spoiler=Part I, Battle I: The Western Quadrant]

Void - Flaming Drillhorn

X-L - Wisdom of Knowledge - the Beyond Boundary

J123 - Upgraded Hovercraft 7000

Maxscool - Zombie Teleporter

The battle for survival had begun. As bodies chilled, the duelists pulled out cards from their decks, and to their astonishment, saw them come to life. Void wasted no time. He Summoned his Flaming Drillhorn, and started plowing through the frozen walls as if they were made of butter. Suddenly, his steed reared, nearly unhorsing him. Zombie Teleporter had appeared directly in front of them! But Flaming Drillhorn was bred for battle. It instinctively lashed out with it's diamond hard hooves, crushing in Zombie Teleporter's head before he could react. "Zombie Teleporter!" cried out Maxscool, as he watched his monster crumple to the ground. Void rode on.

...

"C-c-cold!" X-L shivered, "I-i-isn't there some way t-t-to k-keep warm?", he asked his traveling companion, Wisdom of Knowledge.

"I'm afraid the best solution is to simply keep moving." she replied, heading deeper into the maze. "I have accessed my memory on Roman architecture, and I believe I can find the exit."

Just then, they were almost run over by J123 riding his Upgraded Hovercraft 7000.

"Hey! Watch out!" J123 yelled, barely avoiding them, and running into a wall, destroying his hovercraft. He was knocked unconscious.

"Hey! Are you alright?" asked X-L, rushing up to the unconscious duelist. Meanwhile, Wisdom had drifted over to the damaged hovercraft.

"Master, I believe I can refashion this machine into a personal heating device."

"Great!", exclaimed X-L, "C-c-can you make s-some sort of sled t-t-too, to carry this g-guy in?"

"That would not be wise, master." Replied Wisdom, dismantling the hovercraft, "Instead, you should take his clothing. You are on the verge of frostbite, and with Roman medicines, you could very well lose your feet."

"W-w-what?" chattered X-L, "D-d-don't be s-silly! We can't j-just leave him here!"

"According to Roman law, he would be killed anyways." replied Wisdom, finishing her strange heating contraption, "My duty is towards your survival master, now please, take his clothing."

"N-n-n-no!" shouted X-L, although it was clear he would not last much longer in the cold.

"I'm afraid you leave me no choice, master", said Wisdom sorrowfully, rising.

"W-w-what are you talking about?" asked X-L.

"Forgive me." she said simply, then hit him on the back of the head, knocking him out. She quickly stripped J123 of his clothing and activated her quickly made heating device. Slinging the unconscious X-L over her shoulder, she headed toward where, according to her calculations, the exit lay...

Survivors: Void, X-L

Dead: J123, Maxscool

Tough luck, J123 and Maxscool! X-L and Void simply chose more wisely than you did.

On a side note, if it had come down to a battle between X-L and Void, X-L would have won (by .1!) just due to how interesting and creative effect I thought his effect was.

[spoiler=Part I Battle II: The Eastern Quadrant]

Monkeybuoy - Inferno Pyro Scorcher

David - Zeus - King of Gods

Bengal - Digger Infernoturtle

Konnie - Legendary Mage - Kurokai

The stage was set. The battle had begun. Monkeybuoy and his Inferno Pyro Scorcher were blasting through the ice walls with ease. They stopped to rest a moment, and Monkeybuoy saw light shining through one of the walls. Puzzled, and a bit curious, he ordered Scorcher to melt down the wall. As the wall dissolved into slush, it revealed Konnie, following the glowing trail of Legendary Mage - Kurokai. Before either of the duelists could react, Kurokai whirled around and shot a blast of magical energy at Scorcher. Scorcher took the blast full in the chest and fell forward, unmoving. "Scorcher!" cried out Monkeybuoy in alarm.

"Kurokai! What are you doing? Stop!" cried out Konnie, grabbing the mage by his arm. Kurokai shook Konnie off like he was nothing more than an annoying bug. Konnie hit the wall and crumpled. The legendary mage advanced slowly toward Monkeybuoy, but something was wrong. His movements were hesitant, like he was fighting something within himself. His hesitation cost him. With a roar, Inferno Pyro Scorcher surged to its feet and let out a torrent of flame on Kurokai. Monkeybuoy stood up shakily and looked around. That last blast had decimated the area, and through the brittle remains of the walls, the exit could be clearly seen. Monkeybouy and Scorcher staggered off toward their escape from the frozen hell.

...

"Wahaha! See? I told you manipulating mortals is fun!" boomed out a voice from a cloud floating above where the fierce battle had taken place. Within it sat Zeus - King of Gods and David.

"Ok, ok, you've had your fun, now can you please get me out of here?" begged David.

David had summoned Zeus expecting to be able to fly out of the maze, but had come to learn that no one told Zeus what to do.

"Shut up boy, or I'll kill you." replied Zeus, still chuckling, as he descended towards the ground. But as he landed, the ground suddenly splintered, and collapsed around them, causing them to fall into a large pit.

"WHO DARES DO THIS TO THE ALMIGHTY ZEUS?" roared Zeus, trying to climb out.

"Hey, what can I say, I hate bullies." replied Bengal, stepping out from behind a wall. "Do you like what my Digger Infernoturtle made for you guys?"

"IMPUDENT MORTAL!" raged Zeus, as he began to gather a cloud to rise to the surface.

"That would be a no-no" replied Bengal. "Infernoturtle! Now!"

Infernoturtle let out a roar, and charged the wall, forcing it to topple into the pit, trapping Zeus within.

That was kind of a difficult story to write...

Survivors: Monkeybuoy, Bengal

Dead: Konnie, David

This was actually supposed to be round III, but Lordoftheangelicbeasts, who is in round 2 (now round 3) has not posted a card yet.

[spoiler=Part I Battle III: The Northern Quadrant]

J0V1 - Phoenix of Destruction

LightDiversion - Flaming Harpy

Descrow - Terrorspawn Creeper

Steven Cope - Berserk Minotaur

Steven Cope was not prone to panic. Keeping a level head, he searched through his deck to find the card he wanted, his Berserk Minotaur. With a flash, the minotaur was standing before his eyes. He smiled with satisfaction. "Now my great beast, find a way out of this death trap."

The minotaur looked puzzled. There was no enemy here to smash, merely some pretty walls. He looked left, he looked right. Still no enemies. He began to grow frustrated, then downright angry. With a roar, he swung his axe and tore down a wall. He continued to rampage as if he were, well, going berserk. Steven chuckled and followed his monster's path of destruction. Suddenly, the minotaur stopped, and stood ramrod straight, his eyes bulging. Steven looked with concern. "Hey, what's wrong, big guy?"

Berserk Minotaur's stomach began to bulge, and grow, and then...burst. The minotaur toppled over, dead.

"Oh, gross!" cried out Descrow, emerging from the guts. "Ah man, Terrorspawn Creeper! Out of all the places to teleport us, why inside a giant bull?"

"You said you wanted to be warm, and this was the closest hotspot." replied the multi-eyed creeper.

"Hey! Hey! What's the big idea?", demanded Steven.

"Whoops! Sorry about that! Hope you make it out ok!" replied Descrow, "Terrorspawn, get me somewhere where I can clean off, this time not inside of anything, ok?"

"You got it boss."

And with that, Descrow and Terrorspawn Creeper warped out.

Muttering angrily, Steven drew another card. Nothing happened. No monster emerged.

"Huh?"

"Haha...Sorry boy, but the rules state that you can only summon one monster per battle." cackled a voice.

Steven whirled around to see a lean, bald man, Egyptian by his coloring, crouching on a nearby wall. He wasn't there before.

"Who are you?" demanded Steven, unnerved.

"The emperor", he sneered as he said that word, "grows bored of this sport. He has asked me to make things more...lively." He chuckled and raised his hand. A bright flash blinded Steven.

When he could see again, the man was gone. Something was wrong. Steven felt....large. The angle of the walls seemed strange too. He wasn't cold anymore. Twisting his neck around, he looked at his back. He gasped. He rushed to the wall, and peered in the shiny surface. A pure white dragon stared back at him.

...

J0v1 was panicking. He had run straight into the maze the second the Romans had taken of his blindfold. He was hopelessly lost now, and freezing to boot. Rubbing his arms for warmth, he turned a corner, and gave a shout of surprise. Standing before him was a pure white dragon. The dragon whipped his head around and gave a roar, slowly advancing upon J0v1. J0v1 backed up, and tripped. In his panic, he grabbed the first thing he could and threw it at the dragon. It happened to be his Phoenix of Destruction card. There was a flash, and the Phoenix rose out of the card, and smashed the dragon into a wall.

"K-k-kill it!" screamed out J0v1, through his shock.

The Phoenix let out a piercing cry, and engulfed the dragon in flames. When the flames abated, there was nothing left. The Phoenix landed beside J0v1.

"I-I just want to get out of here.", he mumbled miserably.

"Very well, my master", replied a voice inside his head.

"Wha-?" he began to say, but was cut off as the Phoenix rose into the sky and exploded into flame.

J0v1 covered his head, sure he was going to die. After a long minute, he raised his head again. Before him sat his card, on top of a pile of ash. Beyond that lay a clear path to the exit.

"Thank you..." he whispered as he picked up his card and pocketed it, stumbling toward the exit.

...

LightDiversion was riding high on the back of his Flaming Harpy, when he heard a roar. Commanding his harpy to follow the sound, he came upon the scene of a dragon about to attack a boy. Just as he was about to dive down, a piercing scream filled the air, and a Phoenix blasted out of nowhere, consuming the dragon in flames. The heat was like a solid wall. It smashed into Lightdiviersion and his harpy, flinging them off course. The landed hard on the ground. Flaming Harpy had done a last minute roll to cushion the landing for Lightdiversion. It cost him though, as his neck snapped on landing. Lightdiversion stood up, dazed.

"What was that?" he asked to no one in particular.

It was the last thing he ever said, because a pillar of flame shot through where he was standing, disintegrating him, and everything else between J0v1 and the exit."

Survivors: Descrow, J0v1

Dead: Lightdiversion, Steven Cope

Yep. I rearranged the rounds again. Come on, Lordofangelicbeasts! I need your card! D:

Admirable effort from everyone. I rather enjoyed writing this chapter. The plot thickens with the entrance of this mysterious Egyptian magician?

Fun fact: if it came down to a battle, Descrow would have beat J0v1 (by .1, again). Because I really liked Des's effect.

Well, hopefully Lord will come up with his card soon.

[spoiler=Part I Battle IV: The Southern Quadrant]

IMPORTANT! READ THIS! I don't know if you guys have seen this yet, but dA has finally raised issues of copyright against this site. I actually brought up this issue when I initially joined this site, last year. Everyone told me not to worry about it, lol. Well, it's time to worry! We are now required to gain permission before using art. See it here. I'm still unsure of how the rule will proceed. Now obviously, these cards have already been made, so I see no reason to postpone this round. However, I will be postponing Part II until this gets resolved or the rules clarified. Thanks for reading. Now on to the story!

TotalObelisk - Fire Caller

CardAce - Shadow of Flame

Jenkslots - Snow Surfer Kyo

Lordoftheangelicbeasts - The Thing That Stalks

Jenkslots didn't hesitate. He knew exactly what monster he was going to summon. A flash of light, and Snow Surfer Kyo stood before the young duelist.

"Find a way out, then come back and get me, ok?" he ordered his monster.

Kyo smiled and waved, then sped off into the maze. Jenkslots walked in circles, rubbing his arms to keep warm as he waited for his monster to return. It would be a long wait.

...

Snow Surfer Kyo was speeding through the maze, bent on finding an exit for his master. So focused on the task, he failed to notice the trilling notes of a flute floating through the air. Slowly, the sound penetrated his concentration, and he stopped, looking around. In front of him was a young girl, playing a flute. Kyo was puzzled. The girl did not acknowledge his presence, simply kept playing her hypnotic melody. The song ended. Kyo blinked, and shook his head. His body felt...heavy. Warm. He tried to move, and found himself falling. The air was hotter. So hot...Suddenly, the air around Kyo burst into flame, consuming him. The Fire Caller skipped back to her master, TotalObelisk, smiling.

"Well?", asked TotalObelisk, "Was there anything over there?"

"Nope" she giggled. "Must have been my imagination."

...

CardAce and his companion, Shadow of Flame were making brisk progress through the maze. Up ahead, they saw an opening.

"Look! The exit!" exclaimed CardAce, speeding up, "Come on Shadow! I'll race ya!" he called, breaking into a run.

There was a bellow behind CardAce, and a strange sizzling sound. CardAce turned around, to see a strange dark green lizard-like creature choking his monster. It didn't seem bothered by the flames. Shadow of Flame gave one final twitch, and lay still. The creature turned and started advancing toward CardAce. CardAce looked on, paralyzed in fear. Just then a voice called out, "The Thing That Stalks! Stop!"

Lordofangelicbeasts jogged out from around the corner. "Oh man, I'm so sorry!" he said to CardAce, "I saw you running from the monster...I thought it was going to attack you!"

"It...it's alright." replied CardAce, still shaken.

"Well? What are you waiting for? Kill him!" cackled a voice from on top of the wall.

Both duelist turned and saw a bald Egyptian crouched on the wall.

"What? What are you talking about? Who are you?", demanded Lordoftheangelicbeasts.

The man just laughed, and raised his hand.

A light flashed.

When Lordoftheangelicbeasts woke up, he was lying on his back, outside of the maze. He heard the tremendous roar of the spectators, and saw 7 other people standing there. CardAce was not one of them.

Survivors: LOTAB, TotalObelisk

Dead: CardAce, Jenkslots

In classic Roman style, the losers will be killed. Winners live to fight another day.

Oh yeah, the story will always be on the first post.

EDIT: Please post effects outside of card.

1 and 2 stars be warned: I'm not banning you from joining, but unless you are one of the very small percentage of 1 and 2's that just starts out making amazing cards, I doubt you'll survive very long in this contest. Join at your own risk.

When an "Ember Token" you control is destroyed, inflict 500 points of damage to your opponent. When this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, you can Special Summon all "Ember Tokens" in your Spell & Trap Card Zone to your side of the field.

This card cannot be normal summoned or set. This card can only be Special summoned by sacrificing 2 cards with God in it`s name. This card gains attack the equal to 1 card you have sacrificed to summon this card. When this card gets destroyed you take life point damage equal to halve of your opponents life points. You can only have 1 Zeus - King Of The Gods in your deck.

As I weeped miserably I pounded at the floor in despair, a drew a shinig card card. The card was new, I never saw it before and I definatly didnt put it in my deck! As I summoned it in a desprite atempt to survive and get past the cold,, dark maze a shot of blinding light burst out, showin me the way. At first I stammered back but the an impulse told my gut to trust the card. I followed it wondering what awaits me at the end of the dangourus maze.....maybe hope.....maybe death....whatever the answer is I was going to find out!

During battle between this attacking card and a Defense Position monster whose DEF is lower than the ATK of this card, inflict the difference as battle damage to your opponent. When this card destroys a monster by battle, inflict damage to your opponent equal to half of the DEF of the destroyed monster. This card cannot be destroyed by battle with a WATER monster whose name includes "Ice", "Frost", "Freeze", or "Chill".

I felt despair overcome me as I stood rooted to the spot by the cold. I was almost paralyzed, but in a last desperate movement, I grasped for my Deck. My hands wouldn't move, but looking upon my Deck a final burst of hope came through me. I shuffled through my Deck until I found my newly acquired card, depicting a noble steed of fire, with a horn which could penetrate the hardest of steel. I held it to the sky and a raging horse engulfed the scene with flames as it was Summoned. The inferno merely softened the hard ice, but that was enough for it to dash through and smash everything in its path, the hard white ice was no match for it, it looked not like a horse, but more like a fireball as its sheer speed collapsed the entire maze, as well as all monsters and obstacles in it, in a matter of minutes. The loyal horse galloped back to me, I mounted it and returned to Gan the Overseer, wondering what I'd face next, if anything. Was my work done? It seemed so, bet many things aren't as they seem...

effect:

This card cannot be Summoned except by Tribute Summon. Once per turn, you can discard 1 card from your hand and draw 1 card to activate this cards effect. Select 1 card on the field and you can select 1 sentence on that card. That sentence is treated as if it were not there. If the target is destroyed before you can apply the effect, you can choose a different target.
