Online vs Offline

recently we just acquired internet at our house and we've been doing a lot on xbox live. Starting to get into the whole idea of online play again, I find its a lot harder than it used to be. People are more experienced than I remember, and the level of talent across the web is amazing at times.

Although, there are a few individuals I am almost POSITIVE are using hacks of some kind. It wouldn't surprise me if they were, which their accounts will soon be under investigation.

What do you think of online play vs offline play? Which do you prefer? Do you have more fun with one or another, or do you even play online at all?

I know a lot of people here play Pokemon over the WiFi connection that wireless internet offers. Do you prefer to battle over the WiFi Network or would you just rather play the game, and do the short-ranged battles that don't require the use of wireless internet access?

I prefer online play, but only with friends. Too many people online like to use hacks to boost their stats. I mean, come on. If you need hacks to be able to win, you aren't any good to begin with, so stop pretending because the only person you are fooling is yourself.

However, on Halo 3 a lot of my friends are senior officer ranks (because I just started, otherwise I would be too) and continue to climb, so I've got a lot of catching up to do! Battling them is always fun, but because of the higher online experience, and the lack of experience I have on my end on various forms of combat through halo, I often get slaughtered with only a handful of kills (although twice already in a match with them, I walked away with the highest kill count out of all of them, taking the most medals and the most awards, along with the match :D:D).

Since this does seem like a console thread, I'll skip my PC online experiences and chat about the only time I've played Eye of Judgment against a complete stranger. My opponent managed to summon the Biolith God on a Biolith field - a card we don't even HAVE over here, lazy... deliverers - and what did I do? I Taurus Monolithed it. I felt darn happy about it.

Say whatever you want, but it's always more satisfying being better than a person with emotions than a person without.

THE WIFE?! You're...old, if you don't mind. O.o I'm 12...but I'm always happy for more friends, no matter the age. :D I have both GH3 and Halo 3, but I play Halo 3 and other games much more than Guitar Hero 3. I'll add you as soon as I can get on Live, or you could add me.

KyubTheVanguard

I'm also always happy for more friends. :D I said that twice. <.< Oh well.

I love online in most things like pokemon and WC08 and SSBB (super smash bros brawl) because even though people cheat and are sore losers who turn off their games it is good when you win because you get to see how you compare to the rest of the people who play the games. but offline is better when you start out on a game for obvious reasons.

I hate the individuals who choose to cheat and use hacks on their systems. I'm sure if I really wanted to win THAT badly, and pointless reputation and points that you earn on the games, yeah, I could hack my system or use cheats, but what is the point?

You can't take any of this into the real world. Its not like they ask you in a job interview.

"Mr. Smith, I see here you have a Bachelors in Science for Business Management, you have 2 years experience working as a night shift assistant manager, and you are a General, third class in Halo 3 online ranking with MVP Award and a win streak of 25. You're hired."

C'mon people! So its a game. Either be good at it, or have fun being bad at it.

It is just a game after all...

A human will never be as fast as a CPU. The reason CPU's are easier is soley because of the second thing you stated. CPUs can't think. Not only outside the box, not at all. There's always a pattern to their movements, and they can't properly adapt to their surroundings. (Though algorithms are programmed in to make them do different things depending on what is happening, these are limited.)
