NEW CHAPTER!!!

[spoiler=Chapter Twelve]

Haunted Mansion; Ghosts Attack!

“That’s it,” said Coltmon, “we’re officially lost!”

We had been walking since sunrise. It was almost noon. The forest was getting thicker and darker the further we went.

I looked down at my Digimon. “Do you think you could be any more depressing?” I asked him. “You’re starting to sound like BlackColtmon.”

He was right, of course, but it had only been two days since our separation from John and Sarah, and Amanda was still pretty down.

“Alright,” I said, trying to be as cheery as possible, “this is no problem! Coltmon will just Digivolve and he and I will fly up above the trees and get our bearings.” I looked down at Coltmon. He nodded.

“Initiate,” I said, brandishing my Digivice, “Digivolution!”

“Coltmon,” my Digimon declared, “Digivolve to! BattleStaliamon!”

I jumped onto my partner’s back and we took flight. With only a few flaps of his powerful wings, BattleStaliamon lifted us far above the treetops until we could see the forest all around us.

Nothing was familiar, but I did see one promising destination. About two miles away, in the center of a clearing among a dense grouping of vine-covered trees stood an old mansion. It was the perfect place for a Digimon community to gather, and maybe the perfect place for us to get the directions we needed.

BattleStaliamon and I landed and told Amanda and Chickomon what we had seen. We decided to fly to the mansion, saving time.

“Chickomon, Digivolve to! BrauntoPhoenixmon!” He Digivolved with Amanda and as soon as he was ready, he took off. BattleStaliamon and I followed.

As soon as we were above the trees I pointed out the mansion. As one our Digimon flew up high, and then spilled air from their wings. They glided the distance to the mansion and landed gracefully in the open area in front of the mansion and de-Digivolved.

“Okay,” Amanda asked, “is it just me, or does this place look a lot creepier up close?”

Amanda was right. I shuddered as I examined the decrepit façade before me. The bricks in the walls were coming loose, and the windows were either cracked or blocked from view by a covering of boards. Ivy spread from the ground up the walls like fingers ready to pull all three stories and the one tower of the ancient building to an early grave.

“Well,” I said, “since we’re here, we might as well check the place out.” I walked slowly up to the double front doors, Amanda and the Digimon close behind. I looked around, and I saw the rope for the bell. I gave it a good tug, and a deep ringing echoed forth from the tower above. I heard the fluttering of wings and looked up in time to see a large flock of bats fleeing the sound.

“Well,” said Amanda, “guess nobody’s home!” She stepped forward to grab my arm and pull me away from the door, and she tripped on an uneven block in the walkway. She fell forward and landed against the door. I creaked open and she fell, half of her body inside.

“Cool,” I said, helping Amanda up as my adventurous side took hold, “it’s open. This is just like in a movie!”

“Yeah,” said Amanda fearfully as she followed me reluctantly inside, “that’s just what I’m afraid of.”

We stepped inside and found ourselves in a large foyer. To our right was a large ornately designed staircase. To our left there was a massive chandelier hanging from the wide double high ceiling, under which was an open arched doorway leading into another room. There were smaller doors to either side of the staircase. Like the outside of the house, the interior was falling apart.

“Come on Manda,” I said, “let’s check this place out. I bet there’s tons of sweet stuff!” I took a cautious step deeper into the building, heading for the rooms to our right.

“Jen,” Amanda whined, but she followed anyway. Chickomon stepped up to her side, and Coltmon trotted past, goofing off and making loud noises by banging his hooves against the tile floor. But as we cleared the doorway, the door shut and locked behind us with a slam and a click.

“Crap!” I said and rushed back to the door. I pulled as hard as I could on the handle, but it wouldn’t budge. “Crap,” I said again, “I’ve seen enough movies to know that stuff like this is never good.”

Then Amanda screamed in terror. I turned quickly and caught sight of what had scared her so badly. Above our heads, circling the chandelier, were six ghosts. They were small, only about two, two and a half feet tall, and they looked like little more than tattered sheets with dark eyes, mouths full of sharp teeth, and blue, clawed hands. I pulled Amanda behind me protectively, hoping to shield her from whatever threat the ghosts posed.

The ghosts moaned and began swooping toward us and then pulling abruptly back up toward the ceiling in rapid arches. “Coltmon,” I asked, “are those things Digimon?”

“Yes,” said Coltmon. “They’re called Bakemon, Adult level, but low class. We probably wouldn’t even have to Digivolve to handle so few of them.”

It was then that things took a serious turn for the worse. All around us appeared more ghosts, hovering in the air. Most were just like the first few, but some were wearing witch hats. I learned later from Coltmon that these are called Soulmon. Altogether there were about twenty four of them, poised and ready to attack.

“I take that back,” said Coltmon. “Digivolving could quite possibly be the best idea ever.”

“I can’t Digivolve in here,” said Chickomon. “I’d get to big.”

“Then leave this to us,” I said. “Initiate Digivolution!”

“Got ya!” Coltmon replied. “Coltmon, Digivolve to, BattleStaliamon! Time to take down some ghosts!”

He leapt toward several ghosts and kicked them with his front hooves. They became data and faded away. Several of the ghosts dropped down and reached for my Digimon with their claws, but he threw open his wings, tossing them away.

“Hoof Blades!” BattleStaliamon called. He reared up and kicked with his front hooves, slinging curved energy blades. They spun, circling the room, and cut down several more of the enemies.

“Chickomon Blades,” Chickomon called. Lasers shot from his eyes in three rapid bursts, hitting a Bakemon and a Soulmon, destroying them. But he was hit by an attack from another Soulmon and thrown through the air, landing on his side.

“I’ve had enough of this,” said BattleStaliamon. “Time to end this little game.” He rose up into the air and began to glow, calling, “Celestial Ring!” a sphere of light spread out from his body, incinerating every ghost it touched. The few that remained faded away, retreating.

BattleStaliamon landed and turned to face the door. He launched his attack at the double doors, but it had no effect. We were still trapped.

Then suddenly the room was filled with the sound of slow clapping coming from the top of the stairs. I turned toward the source and saw a tall pale figure standing there, wearing a red cape. He wore a red mask over his eyes, and he had fangs like a vampire.

“Oh no!” said BattleStaliamon.

“What?” I asked.

“I think that’s Myotismon, one of the strongest of all ghost Digimon. He’s at the Perfect level and is said to be at par with Manipulamon!”

“But you almost beat Manipulamon,” I said.

“No,” he said. “Fillimon and I almost beat Manipulamon. I’m stronger when she and I are together.”

“I feel that I should congratulate you,” said Myotismon, “on so easily overcoming my ghost forces. Bravo. But I’m one for a good challenge, and I love nothing more than drawing others to their demise. You’ll have to fight me in my Ghost Realm. The only way out is either at my side, or upon my demise.”

He levitated into the air and spread his arms as he glided toward us. Suddenly the room around us dissolved, and we found ourselves in a shadowy realm with no ground and no sky. Only a swirling gray nothingness.

“I guess we have no other choice,” I said, “than to fight.”

“Chickomon,” said Amanda, “you can Digivolve now. Initiate Digivolution!”

“Right!” Chickomon replied. “Chickomon, Digivolve to, BrauntoPhoenixmon!”

The massive Dinosaur Digimon spread his huge feathered wings and shot strait toward his foe. BattleStaliamon glided around behind. Myotismon remained still, sure of himself. The Digimon faced him from opposite sides and launched their attacks.

“Pitiful,” said Myotismon. He aimed his palms at the oncoming attacks and called “Crimson Lightning!” Red energy extended from his hands and he slung it like whips toward the oncoming attack, canceling them out.

“You haven’t seen anything yet,” said BrauntoPhoenixmon. He charged at a reckless speed strait at the enemy Digimon. Myotismon laughed and threw open his cape. A flock of bats appeared from beneath his cape, overtaking BrauntoPhoenixmon, carrying him away.

While Myotismon was focusing on BrauntoPhoenixmon, BattleStaliamon circled back around behind him and launched his attack, his Hoof Blades. They flew true, hitting Myotismon in the back. All that they seemed to do was scorch his cape.

Myotismon spun around. “How dare you!” he cried. He glared at BattleStaliamon, a fierceness in his eyes. “I was going to let you live so I could have a little more fun, but I’m mad now. I think it’s time I finished you off.” He raised his hands and aimed his palms at BattleStaliamon. “Crimson Lightning!”

He slung his energy attack at my Digimon, giving him no time to dodge. “No!” I cried out. I couldn’t let him hurt my partner, my friend. And I couldn’t let BattleStaliamon die protecting me.

As I tried hopelessly to run to my Digimon’s side on a ground that didn’t exist, my Neo Crest of Love lit up, and time around me seemed to slow. My Crest slid from its tag and became a glowing pink disk. I pushed the disk into the slot on my Digiplayer and connected my Digiplayer to my Digivice, calling out, “Initiate Digiplayer Digivolution!”

“BattleStaliamon, Digivolve to!” A metal strip ran down his back from his shoulder. Metal panels seemed to roll down from the strip, covering my Digimon’s sides. Rockets extended from the slanted back of the armor and large blades appeared, one mounted to each side. His wings became metallic versions of the same, and thin wire exoskeletons appeared over his legs. I learned that these were meant to make the muscles in my Digimon’s legs stronger. “MetalStaliamon!”

My new Digimon’s rockets came to life and he shot out of the way of Myotismon’s attack with ease, circling Myotismon with amazing speed. He turned on a dime to face the ghost Digimon and shot past him, slashing Myotismon’s arm with one of his blades, severing the arm just below the elbow. MetalStaliamon came to a dead stop and spun again to face his foe, calling “Metal Hoof Blades!” Guns extended from the front of my Digimon’s armor and he fired energy-blade-tipped energy beams strait at the foe. They hit, tearing him apart.

The Ghost Realm faded away around us and we found ourselves in an empty lot where the mansion used to be. BrauntoPhoenixmon had de-Digivolved under the bat attack and was crouched down with his paws covering his head. The bats gone, he rose to his feet and walked to Amanda’s side. She dropped down and hugged him as MetalStaliamon landed at my side. He de-Digivolved to Mainemon and hopped up into my arms, falling immediately asleep.

I smiled down at my partner Digimon, and then glanced over at Amanda. She had not cried once during the battle. She had grown up a little in there. That fact alone made today a good day.

NEW CHAPTER OF ULTIMATE NEWNESS!!!!!

[spoiler=Chapter 13]

Okuwamon Strikes Back!

John

Sarah, Serpentmon, BlackColtmon, Ponymon and I had now been walking for about three days, minus time to sleep and find food, and still Jeremy remained out of our reach. We decided that using the Digimon to fly into battle would only serve to drain their energy to the point that they would surly lose, so we were pursuing him on foot. It was slow going.

Ever since the split up, Sarah and I had barely spoken to each other. She was worried about Amanda and Jen, Ponymon was worried about Sarah, and Serpentmon was worried about me. I myself was only worried about finding Jeremy and freeing him and Mechmon from Manipulamon’s grasp.

Serpentmon rode on my shoulders as usual, and, of course, BlackColtmon walked at my side. Things seemed normal enough, but there was none of the goofiness, the grumpiness, and the witty banter that typically accompanied these lengthy treks. If I had been thinking strait, I would have noticed it then and I would have realized that something was really wrong.

We walked silently for about another half mile before anything happened. I was tracking Jeremy using the hand unit when suddenly a massive signal came onto the scanner screed, rushing toward us. I announced this to the others.

“Any clue what it is?” Sarah asked, peering at the blip on the screen.

“I’m analyzing its fractal code configuration now,” I answered. It was then that the Digicomp found a match. “It’s Okuwamon! The same one from before.”

“What would he want with us?” Sarah asked, puzzled.

“Yeah,” said BlackColtmon, “we already kicked his ass once.”

Serpentmon laughed and said, “I think you mean that I kicked his ass!”

“No time for that now guys,” I said, still watching the screen, following Okuwamon’s location. “He’s almost here. Time for the three of you,” I said, turning to the Digimon, “to slip into something more comfortable.”

Sarah stood tall by my side, and together we declared, “Initiate Digivolution!”

Mine and Sarah’s Digivices came online, vibrating, and radiating energy. The Digimon responded and began to glow.

“Serpentmon, Digivolve to!”

“BlackColtmon, Digivolve to!”

“Ponymon, Digivolve to!”

“Dragonterramon!”

“BlackStaliamon!”

“Fillimon!”

The three Adult Level Digimon circled their two human partners, acting as a defensive line between us and the oncoming foe. Just as they did, Okuwamon arrived, appearing above us, all alone.

“Hello Digidestined of Courage,” he said to me. “I have come to redeem myself in the eyes of my master for my defeat by your hand, back at my nest. Last time you surprised me with your sudden strength, but this time I’m prepared for you!”

“No way!” I said, far too confident in my power. “You can’t win, because Dragonterramon and I have the power of the Neo Crest of Courage!”

I passed my hand over my Crest Tag, meaning to summon the Digidisk of Courage, “Initiate..!” But nothing happened. I stared down at my darkened Crest, and then back up at the giant foe that I had not even tried to avoid. “Oh sheet!”

Okuwamon lunged. Dragonterramon scooped Sarah and I up and jumped out of the way while Fillimon and BlackColtmon moved to meet Okuwamon head on. They were thrown aside like rag dolls.

Dragonterramon dropped me and Sarah behind a large protruding boulder, and jumped into the fray. I fell to my knees and stared at the ground.

What happened back there? I thought silently. I-I’ve lost my connection with my Digimon! It hit me as I knelt there in the midst of battle, I’m afraid! I’m afraid of losing my free will to Manipulamon the same way Jeremy has.

I looked up at the Digimon battling overhead and gasped. That’s why I’m chasing Jeremy. He’s my friend, sure, but the real reason is so I can prove that Jeremy’s still himself under there! I’m not chasing out of anger. I’m chasing him out of fear! I’ve been lying to myself, and because of it I’ve lost half my team, as well as my connection with my Digimon!

“I know what to do!”

I stood up abruptly and focused my attention to the battle. Okuwamon slammed Fillimon into the ground, causing her to de-Digivolve. He could have killed her then, but he turned his attention back to my Digimon instead.

“I think I’ll kill you first,” Okuwamon said, “starting with you dragon! Okuwamon raised his claws. My Digimon were weak, hurt, and out of breath. One of Okuwamon’s attacks could kill them both.

Without a moment’s hesitation I took action. I rushed out from behind the boulder, “I’m not gonna let you hurt my friends!” I charged toward Okuwamon. He saw me coming and looked right at me. “Fine,” he said, “if you’re so anxious to die first, so be it!”

He raised his claws, this time moving to attack me. Suddenly my Crests began to glow, both at once. They emerged from their Crest Tags and changed into two glowing disks.

I connected my Digivice and Digiplayer together and stacked the disks atop one another, inserting them into the Digiplayer, pressed the activate button and called, Initiate Digiplayer Digivolution!”

“Dragonterramon, Digivolve to! WingedDragonterramon!”

“BlackStaliamon, Digivolve to!” blue, red-edged armor appeared over his lower legs and metal tips formed over the tips of his hooves. A metal helm, blue and red in color, sporting three forward-sweeping golden horns appeared over his head, and a blue, red-edged armor breastplate formed over his chest and partially down his sides. A blue blanket with red tassels appeared, draped over his back, and a lance appeared, mounted to the armor on his right side. Both his breastplate and the blanket bore the Crest of Friendship, “JousterStaliamon!”

“What? Impossible!” Okuwamon cried. “Lord Manipulamon said that you would be unable to Digivolve to Perfect!”

“Yeah, well,” I said, “your so called Lord Manipulamon was wrong, because I’m back! Now, normally I’d let you go tell Manipulamon that I’m myself again, maybe scare him for a change, but I think I’ve had about enough of you.”

“To bad for you then,” said Okuwamon, “because I’m gone!” He looked up, preparing to take off, and found himself blocked by WingedDragonterramon. He let out a startled cry, and threw up his arms.

“This ends now,” said WingedDragonterramon. “Wing Fireblaze!” He built fire into his wings and flung it down on the foe.

“Thunder Joust!” called JousterStaliamon. His lance glowed and extended forward, piercing Okuwamon’s thick exoskeleton armor. Electricity ran up the lance, shocking Okuwamon with a massive amount of energy, just as my dragon’s fire hit its mark. Okuwamon screamed, and was gone.

“I’ve been a jerk,” I told Sarah. “Forget chasing Jeremy. We have to find the others.”

That’s when things took a turn for the worse. I heard a voice from behind me, a good ways off, “Too late, old friend, because I’ve come for you!”

Sarah, WingedDragonterramon, JousterStaliamon, the injured Ponymon and I turned and found Jeremy and Mechamon standing about fifty yards away.

“Its almost time for Manipulamon and I to make a move against this world’s largest organized force, but first, I’m to dispose of you five. Okuwamon was just a warm-up. Now’s the real workout!”

Mechamon jumped toward us. Jeremy connected his Digivice and Digiplayer and inserted his disk, “Initiate Digiplayer Digivolution!”

“Mechamon, Digivolve to!” He transformed into his tank-bodied Perfect form, “MegaMechamon!”

“We can’t run,” I said under my breath. I looked Jeremy strait in the eye, “So we fight!” My Digimon ran to meet their opponent and begin the battle that would determine our fate once and for all.

[spoiler=Chapter Fourteen]

Amanda Grows Up

Amanda

“This stinks,” I said. “We don’t even know where we’re going.” Jen and I had been walking through the forest all day, and it was getting annoying.

“I know, cousin,” Jen replied, “but there’s nothing else we can do. We have to keep going until we find someone who knows the way back to the desert.

I sighed. I was riding on Chickomon’s back, so I curled up and took a nap.

It was dark when Jen woke me up, “Amanda, wake up. You’ve been out for, like, two hours. It’s time to set up camp.”

Grudgingly I awoke and went to work helping to make a fire and set up the bed mats. Chickomon helped me out while Jen and Coltmon worked to remove meat apples from the surrounding trees. When an apple fell right on Jen’s head, I almost thought I could laugh.

Finally we had a comfortable camp, a warm fire, a hot meal, and a chance to relax and talk.

“You okay Amanda?” asked Jen. She seemed a bit worried.

“Yeah,” I said, “I’m okay.”

Jen was quiet for a minute, and then she said, “You know, there’s no guarantee that we’ll be able to find a way home.”

“I know,” I said, my head resting on my hand. In fact, that possibility had been bugging me for awhile. I couldn’t help wondering what would happen if I found out that I had betrayed my friends, my family, for nothing.

Jen nodded at my response, and soon we were finished eating and off to sleep.

Jen, the Digimon, and I were all awoken the next morning by a loud sound nearby. I jumped up out of my bedroll and screamed.

“Shh,” Jen commanded, “we need to head out of here quietly.”

“What is it?” I asked, unable to suppress a whimper of fear.

“A battle,” Jen answered, “and a big one from the sound of it.”

“Should we try to help?” Chickomon asked. “What if some of the ones fighting are our allies?”

“It’s up to Amanda,” Jen said, and suddenly I had three pairs of eyes on me.

Maybe I thought that saving some good Digimon would help get rid of some of the guilt that I was feeling over betraying my duty to this world. So, even though I wanted nothing more than to run as far from the nearby danger as I could, I said, “Let’s go. Let’s help them.”

Jen looked surprised, but she nodded. Chickomon and Coltmon nodded as well. “Okay,” Jen said, entering her “commander mode” that she learned from watching john and taking charge, “let’s go in with guns blazing.” She looked at me, and we held up our Digivices, “Initiate Digivolution!”

Again the Digimon nodded. Both of them began to glow, and I felt my Digivice vibrate.

“Coltmon, Digivolve to! BattleStaliamon!”

“Chickomon, Digivolve to! BrauntoPhoenixmon!”

Jen jumped onto BattleStaliamon’s back, BrauntoPhoenixmon lifted me onto his back, and we took off through the air, soaring toward the sound of battle.

“Look there!” Jen said, pointing. I looked to where she was pointing and saw a large snake with orange-feathered wings weaving through the trees, chasing a large spider and a massive green-skinned animal with huge horns as thick as tree trunks. Above the snake flew a large red bird launching fireballs at the snake’s back to no avail.

“Is that-?”

“Yeah,” Jen answered, “that snake’s chasing Dokugamon and Birdramon.”

“We have to help them!” said BattleStaliamon.

“Right,” BrauntoPhoenixmon said. “Amanda, hold on!”

I whimpered again, shutting my eyes tight, and grabbed onto BrauntoPhoenixmon as tightly as I could. BrauntoPhoenixmon pulled his massive wings in and fell into a tight spiral. He hunched his neck over and slammed, spinning, into the snake’s back, plowing it into the ground. He pulled up sharply and flapped, rising up above the trees again. I opened my eyes and looked down. “You got him!” I said, staring down into the cloud of debris left from the collision.

Suddenly the winged serpent surged up out of the debris cloud and snapped its massive, fanged jaws at BattleStaliamon. He pulled up just in time and kicked the snake in the face, leaving it hanging in the air, stunned.

Birdramon rose up between BrauntoPhoenixmon and BattleStaliamon. “Quick,” she said, “attack! It’s a Perfect Digimon, WingedSerpenterramon!”

“You heard her,” said Jen. “Attack!”

“Dino Fire!” called my Digimon, tossing flames at the enemy.

“Hoof Blades!” called Jen’s Digimon, firing energy at the foe.

Birdramon rose up higher, “Meteor Wing!” She dropped a barrage of fireballs toward the snake’s large head.

The three attacks converged, hitting WingedSerpenterramon hard, but it recovered quickly, pushing off of the ground. It undulated its body and flew strait up in a slow spin. When it was just above us and Birdramon it spread its wings wide and opened its jaws wider.

“Flaming Fang!” WingedSerpenterramon called. A spear-shaped burst of flames shot from its mouth at Jen and I and our Digimon. The Digimon dodged the attack and dropped to the ground near Dokugamon and her big green friend.

“Jen, Amanda, get down fast!” said BattleStaliamon.

“Dokugamon,” said BrauntoPhoenixmon as he lifted me off of his back and placed me on the ground at his feet, “watch the humans. Guard them with your life!”

“Of course,” said Dokugamon, and the Digimon shot back into the air, returning to the battle.

“Dokugamon!” I yelled, running over to my friend and hugging her leg.

“Hello my friends!” said Dokugamon. “This is our newest ally, Tuskmon,” she told us, gesturing to the green Digimon at her side.

“Good to meet ya big guy,” said Jen, smiling.

Suddenly there was an explosion and we all looked up just in time to see Birdramon get clipped by an attack. She was unable to stay airborne and fell to the ground, hitting her head and falling unconscious.

“That’s it,” Jen yelled at the flying foe, “it’s time to show you how we deal with evil Digimon around here. Initiate Digiplayer Digivolution!”

“BattleStaliamon, Digivolve to! MetalStaliamon!”

Jen’s now armored Digimon activated his boosters and shot up into the air toward his foe, just as WingedSerpenterramon smacked BrauntoPhoenixmon in the face, nearly knocking him out of the sky. WingedSerpenterramon head butted MetalStaliamon, and then flew strait at me. I dropped to me knees and covered my head with my hands, waiting for the end to come, but it never did. Cautiously I looked up and I saw BrauntoPhoenixmon caught in the enemy’s huge jaws. The lower fangs had already scraped BrauntoPhoenixmon’s side, and the upper poisonous fangs were mere inches from his back, held up by one of his wings. The other wing was tattered with leaves and branches stuck between the feathers. He had dove strait through a dense grouping of trees, sacrificing one of his wings, just so that he could get to me in time. The poisonous fangs were growing closer to his skin every second.

BrauntoPhoenixmon looked over at me, clearly in great pain. “Amanda,” he said, “run! Get out of here while you can!”

I wanted to run. Really I did. But I couldn’t. I couldn’t let my friend down. I couldn’t let my team down. I couldn’t leave my Digimon here to die, just to save myself. So instead of running away, I stood up tall and said, “No, I won’t let you down. I’m gonna stay and fight, no matter what!”

Just then, my Crest of Loyalty came to life. It slid from the Crest Tag and changed into a glowing disk. I was stunned for a second, but then I acted. I pulled my Digiplayer and Digivice from my pockets and connected them together. Then I swung my Digiplayer, scooping up the disk as it hung in the air, and pressed the activate button, calling “Initiate Digiplayer Digivolution!” BrauntoPhoenixmon began to glow.

“BrauntoPhoenixmon, Digivolve to!” his wings curled up and morphed into large round metal jet engines. His back, chest, head, and portions of his legs became robotic. All four of his feet became robotic, and his left eye became fully robotic as well, glowing red. He lifted his head high and roared, “MetalBrauntomon!”

Because my Digimon’s new back mounted jets were in the way, WingedSerpenterramon couldn’t close his mouth. MetalBrauntomon activated hover jets in each of his feet and hovered just above the ground, and turbines in his jets began to spin. His jets roared and he shot forward, pulling himself out of his enemy’s jaws with a jolt.

MetalBrauntomon roared again and turned down power on one jet while turning up power on the other, causing him to turn sharply. He shut off his foot-mounted jets and planted his feet firmly on the ground. His turbines began to spin in reverse, blowing air forward instead of pulling air in. Four flamethrowers extended from the armor circling each turbine.

“Metal Dino-Fire!” MetalBrauntomon called. The flamethrowers lit and poured flames into the gusting winds ahead of the turbines, and the wind expanded the flames and blew them forward, engulfing the foe.

WingedSerpenterramon screeched from the pain and undulated back and forth.

“Now’s your chance MetalStaliamon,” Jen said. “Finish him off!”

From behind MetalBrauntomon leaped MetalStaliamon. He called out his attack and fired two beams strait at the heavily injured foe. The beams cut the foe to shreds, breaking him down into bits off data that dispersed harmlessly.

“Amanda,” Jen said, “you rocked! So did you, BrauntoPhoe-, I mean MetalBrauntomon.” MetalStaliamon landed beside her and changed back into Coltmon.

“Yeah,” I said, “but we’re not done yet. We have to find the others. I’m sick of running when I should be doing what needs to be done to save this world.”

I was pale and shaking, and there were tears in my eyes. But as scared as I was, I knew what I had to do. I would never run scared again. I would not let my fears keep me from doing what needed to be done.

“I have the others on my scanner,” said MetalBrauntomon, his robotic eye flashing. “They are engaged in battle.”

“We have to get to them!” said Jen.

“We’ll come with you,” said Dokugamon, Tuskmon and Birdramon standing behind her.

“If we go by air,” said MetalBrauntomon, “we can be there in under twenty minutes.”

He lifted me, Jen, and Coltmon onto his back. Dokugamon jumped onto Birdramon’s back, and she took off, grasping Tuskmon’s horns in her massive claws. Blades spread from beneath MetalBrauntomon’s jets, forming wings, and he shot into the air behind Birdramon. We were off.

Don’t worry guys, I thought, we’re coming!
