let me guess' date=' your eventually going to make John be able to bio-merge with either of his partners

[/quote']

no. bio-merge is handled differently in my books than in the anime. they can't always get it to happen when they need it, but it's a lot more powerful. it can also ONLY happen as a result of exposure to the Forest Core.

now that they've been exposed, the digimon/humans who have bio-merged so far always can, but others can't.

the final (?) battle with Tyranterramon begins. will the new found power of Bio-Merge be enough to defeat this seemingly unbeatable foe?
Unity Found, Unity Lost

“Your new power is great,” said Jijimon. “You said that Tyranterramon has only absorbed two cores, correct?”

“Yeah,” I answered.

“Good,” said Jijimon. “The Forest, Ocean, Desert, and Mountain Cores all possess the same amount of energy. If Tyranterramon is still the same as he was in ancient times, and he has absorbed two cores so far, he will still be too weak to survive direct hits from each of your three attacks.”

“I still don’t get why we have to battle so close to the Core itself,” said Sarah.

“I already explained,” Jijimon replied. “The power to merge with your Digimon can be easily accessed here, near the Forest Core, as long as you and your Digimon continue to exist as one. But the further from the core that you get, the more difficult Bio-Merge will become, even if all other conditions are correct. Fighting near the core is a risk, but a necessary one.”

“Don’t worry, Sis,” I said. “You felt how powerful we were in those new forms. We’ll take care of Tyranterramon no problem!”

“I still think we should help,” said Jeremy, gesturing to the members of my team who did not have the same power to Bio-Merge.

“The power that radiates from the Forest Core must remain uninterrupted for the Bio-Merge to be at peak power,” said Babamon. “High level Digimon react strangely to the cores’ powers, and the cores react strangely to theirs. We can’t risk one of these random reactions weakening the Bio-Merge Digimon before they can complete their task.”

“I understand the reason behind it,” said Jeremy, “but I still don’t like it.”

I was watching the handheld. Based on what we knew of Tyranterramon, he would be ready to absorb another core at any moment. Then I saw it; Tyranterramon’s monstrous signal approaching our location. Fast.

“Get ready guys,” I said. “He’s coming.”

“Alright guys and gals,” said Jijimon, he and Babamon leading the way into the surrounding woods, “time to take cover and let these three get to work.”

In only a few seconds, everyone else was gone, leaving me, Jen, Sarah, Serpentmon, Coltmon and Ponymon alone to face the oncoming threat. The ground shook, the trees parted, and Tyranterramon stood before us. He was the same, but different. His helm now came complete with a faceplate and three back swept spikes, like those worn by InfernoKnightmon. The studs on the pad on his right shoulder had been replaced by spikes, and spikes had grown from the metal ring that he wore around his right wrist.

“Wow Tyranterramon,” I said, “you look different. Is it your hair?”

“Where are the other members of your pathetic little squad, Human? Did you finally realize that they’re useless and cut them loose?”

“The six of us are more than enough to beat you Tyranterramon.” I looked to Jen and then to Sarah. “Come on, let’s show this guy what we’ve learned.”

I closed my eyes and focused. I felt Serpentmon’s heartbeat synchronize with mine. We merged together, “Serpentmon, Bio-Merge to! Vipramon!”

“Coltmon, Bio-Merge to! Samuraimon!”

“Ponymon, Bio-Merge to! Druidmon!”

Suddenly I was twenty feet tall, wearing black, serpent-patterned armor, standing between the eight-foot-tall Druidmon and the nine-foot-tall Samuraimon. I raised my double-pointed lance, Druidmon raised her staff, and Samuraimon drew his twin katanas.

Tyranterramon’s eyes narrowed, “Interesting ability. But it won’t be enough.”

He raised his right fist, charged with a red aura, and bore down on us. But in an instant, we were gone, launching ourselves into the air behind Tyranterramon’s head. I expected our sudden burst of speed to confuse Tyranterramon, but he turned to face us, as if he knew where we were going to be. He raised his weaker left hand, completely blocking the thrust of my lance. There was a burst of energy as I released my attack, but otherwise nothing happened.

“What’s going on?” I demanded. “You aren’t supposed to be this strong!”

Tyranterramon only laughed.

I kicked off of Tyranterramon’s hand and called “Venomous Fang!” I was surrounded by an acid green aura that exploded outward, pushing me away from the foe. I landed a good distance away. Samuraimon and Druidmon back flipped and landed at my side.

“This could be bad,” said Druidmon. “We expected him to be too slow to catch us.”

“If he’s faster than we thought,” said Samuraimon, “then we’ll just have to slow him down.” He jumped up, removing his sash, calling, “Samurai Sash!” the sash extended, wrapping Tyranterramon’s right arm and leg extensively. He tore a length from the end of the sash, tying it around his waist, and then tossed the end of the extended sash at the ground at Tyranterramon’s feet. It embedded itself deep in the earth. Tyranterramon struggled, but he couldn’t pull the sash free.

“My turn,” said “Druidmon. She planted the end of her staff in the ground and called, “Natural Snare!” Glowing green vines sprouted from the ground, ensnaring Tyranterramon’s left arm and leg as well. He couldn’t move, let alone deflect our next attacks.

“Let’s finish it,” I commanded. Druidmon raised her staff and called, “Life Spell!” Tyranterramon was surrounded by a green aura that turned his own energy into damage.

“Twin Katana,” Samuraimon called, swinging his swords rapidly, releasing multiple waves of energy, all of which hit Tyranterramon in the chest.

I raised my lance, aiming it at Tyranterramon’s face, and called “Venomous Fang!” The green aura returned, exploding outward and throwing me into the air. I thrust my lance, releasing a spear-shaped burst of green energy that hit Tyranterramon directly in the face. I fell back to the ground, landing on my feet, and raised my lance again. My lance was surrounded in a green light, and I called, “Vipra Strike!” The green light split off, becoming a massive serpent made of nothing but energy. The snake reached up and engulfed Tyranterramon’s head and chest with energy that scorched his flesh. Druidmon released her vines, and Samuraimon’s sash dissolved. Tyranterramon fell, unmoving, onto his back.

“Is it over?” Samuraimon asked, stepping up to my side.

I shook my head, “I don’t know.”

But his question was answered momentarily when Tyranterramon rose instantly to his feet.

“That’s not possible,” said Druidmon. “He should be dead!”

“Looks like Jiji was wrong,” I replied. “Looks like this battle isn’t over.”

Jeremy

I waited quietly deep in the forest with Mechmon, Kristin, TechnoPupmon, Amanda, Chickomon, BlackColtmon, and our Digimon allies, waiting for John, Sarah, Jen, Serpentmon, Ponymon, and Coltmon to return. I was growing impatient. I turned to Jijimon and asked, “Where are they? They should be finished by now.”

“I’m not sure,” said Jijimon. He was sitting with his legs crossed and his eyes closed. “I’m worried as well. I’m trying to connect with the Forest Core and watch the battle as it unfolds.”

I waited for Jijimon to continue. In only a few moments his eyes opened wide and he stood up fast. “They have each scored a direct hit, and yet Tyranterramon stands. His power has grown beyond what I thought was possible.”

“That’s it,” I said. “I’ve had enough of this. I’m going in.” I brandished my Digivice, “Initiate Warp Digivolution!”

Mechmon jumped into the air, “Mechmon, Warp Digivolve to, Decimatormon!” He opened his wings and rocketed toward the hut, and the battle at hand. I ran close behind him. It wasn’t long before we burst into the clearing, just as Tyranterramon was about to strike the final blow against Vipramon. Decimatormon threw himself in the way, deflecting enough of the energy of the attack for both Digimon to survive. Then Decimatormon threw Vipramon out of the way and took aim, firing every weapon in his possession at the foe, to no avail. Tyranterramon punched with enough strength to destroy my Digimon. He barely managed to avoid the attack in time. Tyranterramon struck again, giving Decimatormon no time to avoid his attack. It was only the last second interference of the injured Vipramon that saved him. Both Digimon pulled back, an injured Druidmon. An unconscious Jen and Coltmon lay next to her.

“We’re too weak,” said Vipramon. “Something happened to Tyranterramon when he absorbed the last core. He changed form and became more powerful than he should have.”

“Regardless of his strength,” said Decimatormon, “we have to fight.”

“In that case,” said Vipramon, “we attack together!”

John

I ran alongside the robotic Digimon. We jumped up and fired our killing attacks. Tyranterramon deflected most of the attack energy with his right arm and moved to counter. I swerved right, and Decimatormon swerved left. We circled the foe, but were swiftly intercepted. I was hit by an energy wave fired from Tyranterramon’s fist, tumbled, and blacked out.

I woke back up a moment later. I was human again, Serpentmon just rising at my side. “John!” I heard Amanda cry. I turned. She and the others were emerging from the forest as well. Babamon, Jijimon, Mummymon, and Arukenimon ran ahead, Birdramon soaring above them. Amanda, Kristin, and their Digimon stopped to help Jen and now Sarah to their feet. I looked back at the battle overhead as BlackColtmon stepped up to my side. Decimatormon and our various Digimon allies were fighting valiantly, but they didn’t stand a chance.

“You aren’t even worth my time anymore,” said Tyranterramon, ignoring the attacking Digimon completely.

“Don’t count us out just yet,” said Babamon. She and her husband jumped up level with Tyranterramon’s head. Babamon breathed fire, and Jijimon swung his walking stick, releasing an energy wave in Tyranterramon’s direction. Neither attack did Tyranterramon any harm.

Though I couldn’t see Tyranterramon’s mouth, his eyes told me that he was smiling. He looked strait at the two elderly Digimon and said, “I know you! Time has not been kind to you, Oberomon and Rosemon.”

I’d had enough. I stood up, Serpentmon at my side. “Time for the return of Vipramon,” I said. I concentrated, but nothing happened. “Come on John,” said Serpentmon.

“I know,” I said, “It’s not working. We’ll have to fight him the old fashioned way.”

But before I could initiate the Digivolution, Tyranterramon released a burst of energy that pushed the Digimon away, stepped forward, and reached right into the ground, ripping up the Forest Core.

“No,” I said. “Not again!”

But it was too late. Tyranterramon squeezed, and the green crystal shattered. He absorbed the shards into his body. He was surrounded by a cocoon of light, just like before. The sky grew dark, and the ground began to break apart beneath us.

“We have to go young ones,” said Jijimon. Decimatormon de-Digivolved, and everyone, except me, started to run.

When Jen saw that I was standing still she stopped and called back to me, ”John, we have to go!”

“No!” I cried, dropping to my knees. “I’m tired Jen. I’m tired of losing, and I’m tired of running!” I made a fist and punched the rocky ground, tears of frustration coming to my eyes.

Jen walked back to me and knelt by my side, “John, we don’t have a choice.”

Our little band, now consisting of six humans and twelve Digimon didn’t stop running until it reached the foot of the nearby mountains. While the others set up camp I looked out over the sunset, and the three dead regions. The three regions that I’d let die.

“Based on what we know of Tyranterramon’s absorption process,” Jeremy was saying, “He’ll have to hibernate over night. We have time to rest.”

“What about finding the Mountain Core?” I asked. “We need to know where Tyranterramon will go next so we can intercept his next advance.”

“We’ll take you to the Mountain Core,” said Jijimon, his wife at his side. “Sleep. We all need it.”

I was about to say something else when I heard a ruffling coming from the nearby tree line. The others heard it too. We turned toward the source of the sound just in time to see a group of the frog-like Gekomon and the tadpole-like Otamamon emerge from the forest. They were all seriously injured. One of them was unmistakably the same Gekomon elder that told us about Tyranterramon’s appearance back home.

Jen and I were closest. We ran to them. I knelt down beside Elder Gekomon and helped him to remain standing as I asked, “Elder, what happened to you?”

“Gekomon village,” the elder replied, “has been destroyed.”
The Mountain Core

That night we heard a story. A terrible story. “What happened?” I asked Elder Gekomon. “I thought the Gekomon Village was protected by the Azulong Crystal.”

“Yeah,” said Mechmon, “the damage from the destruction of the Forest Core shouldn’t have affected you for weeks.”

“Not the core,” said Elder Gekomon, taking a sip of water from one of our water bottles before passing the bottle to his companions. “No, this happened before the Forest Core was destroyed. Our village was prospering after the defeat of Manipulamon. We’d even found another plot of land suitable for growing meat. But then he came. He called himself Tyranterramon. He tore the village apart, as if looking for something, killing many of my people in the process. When he didn’t find anything in the village itself he went on toward the cave of the Azulong Crystal. He tore the cave out of the ground and took the crystal. But he seemed disappointed. I don’t know if he kept searching. I gathered as many of my people as I could and we made our way to the mountains.”

“It sounds,” I said, “like Tyranterramon was sensing for energy that might be a core, and that led him to the Azulong Crystal. I’m sorry. If we’d been able to destroy Tyranterramon earlier this wouldn’t have happened.”

Jen put her hand on my shoulder, “John, I know you. I know what’s coming next. I’m gonna have to say stop before you go blaming yourself for this and doing something stupid. It’s not your fault. No one’s at fault here, except Tyranterramon.”

I nodded. I knew she was right.

“We came here hoping to get help from the current Mountain Guardian, SkullMeramon.” The Elder Gekomon said. “Do you know of him?”

I nodded, “Mechmon told us about him on the way here. He’s well known throughout the Digital World as one of the most powerful Digimon alive. It’s said that he was a servant of Phoenixmon, and when she was about to break down, partially due to age, and partially due to her injuries in a recent battle, she gave her data to SkullMeramon, giving him the power to control fire. Any fire. Even the fire found in the crater of a volcano. He lives in a temple, and he’s the only one who will recognize Phoenixmon in her reborn state.”

“Huh,” said Mechmon, “I didn’t think you guys listened to me.”

“SkullMeramon is a Guardian,” said Elder Gekomon, “or at least the closest thing to a Guardian that’s left in this world. The Guardians are just and heroic. SkullMeramon will help us.”

“That’s what we’re hoping as well,” said Jijimon. “Phoenixmon was the second strongest of the Five Regions’ Guardians. If SkullMeramon has her data, then there’s a good chance that he will be able to help us in the fight against Tyranterramon. As much as I hate to say it, we can’t rely on the power of Bio-Merge, since without the Forest Core, Bio-Merge becomes unreliable. That means our only remaining option is to overpower him, as unlikely as that is.”

The Gekomon and Otamamon began to talk quietly amongst themselves. Then, finally, the Elder Gekomon turned back to me and said, “We may not be much, but we owe you a lot. Tyranterramon must be destroyed. We will help you fight.”

We woke up early the next morning and began the tedious and grueling climb to the top of the only volcanic mountain in the Digital World. There were fewer and fewer trees surrounding us with every step we took. As we walked, I decided to look up SkullMeramon’s information so I’d know what we were up against. Guardian or not, there was a good chance that we’d have to confront this guy to some degree.

Amanda, who was riding on Chickomon’s back just behind me, saw me checking the Digicomp Handheld. “Well?” she asked.

“Well what?”

“What did you find out about SkullMeramon?”

By now everyone was listening, so I said, “Well, there’s not much here actually. It gives his level, Perfect, and some size figures. He’s about five feet taller than InfernoKnightmon. It says his primary attacks involve fire, and using the chains that he wears on his torso as weapons. He’s not the calmest Digimon either. Somewhat territorial.”

“Even a Perfect with the power to control fire,” said Jeremy, “could be serious trouble.”

“Yeah,” I said, “I know.”

After walking for a couple more hours we reached an area that was completely clear, ringed by sparse but tall trees. I could see the lip of the crater even from here. We stood before a massive version of a Japanese-style temple built into the sloping rock.

“There it is,” said Jijimon, referring to the temple, “the home of the Mountain Guardian, and the site of the Mountain Core.”

I nodded, “Well, if that’s the case, I’m gonna go see if anyone’s home.” I ran excitedly toward the entrance to the massive building, Serpentmon and BlackColtmon following close behind. Once I’d reached the entrance I cupped my hands around my mouth and called inside. There was no answer.

“Nobody’s home,” I said to the others as they reached me. “You guys stay here and wait for SkullMeramon to get back. I’m gonna go in and check things out.”

“You sure that’s a good idea?” Jeremy asked.

I smiled, “What could happen?”

So my Digimon and I made our way through a short corridor and through a set of massive wood doors into the temple interior. The room was open to the outside by way of several small rectangular windows positioned close to the ceiling. The light from the outside lit the entire fifty-foot-high room. In the rear of the room was a stone throne, positioned at the base of a massive statue shaped like a bird with four wings, a metal helmet over its head and beak, and a ring around each ankle. Its eyes gleamed red.

“Is that a statue Phoenixmon?” I asked.

“I would think so,” answered BlackColtmon. “What’s that red crystal in its eye?”

Realizing what he was thinking, I scanned the crystal. I smiled, "It's the Mountain Core!"

“We know where the core is,” said Serpentmon. “Now we just have to convince SkullMeramon to help us fight.”

“I hope he will help us,” I said. “The power left over from Phoenixmon to control fire could be the last chance we have of beating Tyranterramon. If he refuses to help us, we won’t stand a chance.”

I sighed, and then I continued, “We should probably get out of here. We don’t want SkullMeramon to get back and find us in his home.”

But as soon as I spoke, I heard an explosion outside.

“Either Tyranterramon’s early,” said BlackColtmon, “or this SkullMeramon guy has a worse temper than we thought.”

My Digimon and I ran from the temple, ducking under an oncoming ball of blue flames. I looked around. My team was facing down a large humanoid figure with blue-gray skin, wrapped in chains, wearing a metal face mask. His body was wreathed in blue fire. As I watched, he pulled one of the chains free and lit it on fire, holding it like a whip. Jijimon, Babamon, and Arukenimon and Mummymon took up positions around the foe, ready to pin him down if need be.

SkullMeramon looked to each of us, counting the number of enemies that he would have to face. Even discounting the Gekomon, the Otamamon, and us humans, he had quite a few opponents to worry about. His stance changed from one of pure aggression to one of caution, and he asked, “Who are you, and why are you here?”

“We’re not your enemies,” I replied, walking toward him slowly with my hands raised in a show of surrender. “A Digimon is on his way to destroy your core. We’re here to help you fight him.”

“I’m here,” said SkullMeramon. “No one else is needed to protect the core. No matter the foe, I will defeat him. No Digimon gets by me.”

“What if,” Jijimon asked, “that foe is your former master’s greatest enemy, Tyranterramon?”

“And what if,” Babamon continued, “he has already absorbed the data of three Digital Cores. I’m sure you’ve seen the devastation taking place in the Forest, Desert and Ocean Regions.”

SkullMeramon laughed, “Do you really expect me to believe that Tyranterramon is alive? Impossible!” But even as he spoke, I could tell that SkullMeramon was apprehensive.

“Can you really afford to take that chance?” Mummymon asked. As he spoke I noticed that a member of our group was missing. So I turned to Jeremy and asked, “Where’s Birdramon?”

“She flew off to scout the area at about the same time you entered that temple.”

That’s when SkullMeramon spoke again. “I am SkullMeramon,” he declared, “holder of Phoenixmon’s Legacy Code. In this area, no one can defeat me. Even if the foe IS Tyranterramon, I’ll kill him myself and release the core data back into this world’s matrix. And unless you can prove your good intentions to me immediately, I’ll kill you first.”

“We don’t have any proof,” said Jeremy. “You’ll just have to give us the benefit of the doubt.”

“Not good enough,” SkullMeramon cried, a massive ball of flames rising from the crater overhead. “Now, prepare to die!”

“Sorry,” said Jeremy, “but we can’t die yet. Sorry, but I have to fight you. Initiate Warp Digivolution!”

As the flames bore down on us, Mechmon took on his mighty Ultimate form, “Mechmon, Warp Digivolve to, Decimatormon!”

Decimatormon took aim with his weapons and fired. SkullMeramon waved his arms and the fire surrounded him like a shield, absorbing Decimatormon’s attack. Then SkullMeramon thrust his hands forward and the flames flew strait at his foe. Decimatormon jumped up, fanned out his wings, and weaved around the relentless flames.

Decimatormon flipped forward his arm-mounted guns and called, “Cutting Beams!” He fired at SkullMeramon’s exposed head, but SkullMeramon spun his chain, deflecting the attack. He waved his arms again, and the flames circled back, overcoming Decimatormon completely. When SkullMeramon finally called the flames away, Decimatormon had become Mechmon again. SkullMeramon laughed and summoned the flames to strike the final blow.

“Stop it!” Amanda screamed. I turned to her. She was standing near the entrance to SkullMeramon’s temple. There was a red flash from inside, just as Chickomon jumped in the way of the flames. He threw Mechmon out of the way, and the flames consumed him.

here's the not so long awaited chapter ten. the original Digimon that debuts in this chapter is by far my favorite. enjoy!
The Legacy of Phoenixmon

I watched as the flames overtook Chickomon. There was no way that he survived. Then, as the flames swirled ever higher and ever hotter, I saw a figure rise within them. There was a burst of light, and the flames dispersed, “Chickomon, Warp Digivolve to!” The figure stood thirty-five feet tall. He had the body of a man, protected by silver armor that covered his chest. His hands were those of a human, but he had the head of a Brontosaurus, and his lower legs and feet were mechanical. Over his hands appeared massive mechanical four-fingered gloves, a missile in each finger, and from his back sprouted fiery red-feathered wings, “MagnaBrauntomon!”

MagnaBrauntomon spread his wings to a width of one and a half times his height. He pushed off of the ground with both legs and his strong, reptilian tail. He flapped his wings and soared toward the foe.

SkullMeramon summoned up a wall of fire. But MagnaBrauntomon was angry. Like his partner, he’d had more than enough of all of this senseless violence between supposed allies. He flapped his wings, blowing enough of the flames away that he was able to punch through what remained and hit SkullMeramon in the face. He was thrown onto his back, but he rose quickly. He ran at his foe, fist raised, and punched. MagnaBrauntomon followed suite. Just before their fists could meet, the massive winged form of Birdramon appeared, dropping to the ground between them. She threw open her wings, throwing the two battling Digimon to the ground.

“Stop this ridiculous posturing!” Birdramon cried. “Tyranterramon is our mutual enemy. We should be fighting with each other, not against each other!”

SkullMeramon stood up and turned to face his most recent assailant, saying, “Who are you to give commands to the mighty SkullMeramon!?” That’s when he actually took a good look at Birdramon. When he did, he dropped to his knees, “Y-you are my master! You are my master reborn at last!”

SkullMeramon cupped his hands near his chest, and from within his body a glowing orb emerged. “This Legacy Code was given to me by the original Mountain Guardian. It contains her power, and her memories! With this Code, you can live again!”

Birdramon looked confused as the orb flew from SkullMeramon’s hands and sunk into her chest. There was an intense flash, and Birdramon changed form. She was a humanoid winged beast with broad red wings, eagle-like legs, and an eagle’s head, covered by a yellow helm. Her body was covered in red feathers, marked by Native American-style patterns. She threw open her arms and spread her wings, “Birdramon, Digivolve to, Garudamon!”

The forty-foot-tall Bird-Man Digimon looked down at her talon-like hands and said, “I remember it all now. I remember the Sovereign giving me the power to Digivolve to Phoenixmon. I remember repelling Tyranterramon from my mountain by summoning the fire from the volcano. I remember my second battle against Tyranterramon, alongside my fellow Guardians. I remember receiving the injuries that led to my death. And I remember dying.”

I was shocked, but before I could even register my disbelief, the ground shook under my feet. Oh no! I turned just in time to see Tyranterramon step into view. “I wonder if you’ll remember dying this time too,” he said, his voice booming with power.

Garudamon and SkullMeramon turned to face the oncoming foe. My team, my allies and I did as well. “Tyranterramon!” said Garudamon. Her eyes narrowed, “Get out of my region at once!”

“You have no business commanding me, Bird. You were able to defeat me last time we fought here because you and I were the same Level, and you possessed the ability to control fire.”

“I’ve retained that ability,” Garudamon countered.

“But,” Tyranterramon replied, “I am several times more powerful now, and you are only a Perfect Digimon.”

“You forget,” I said, “that Garudamon has us to fight by her side.”

I nodded to my team mates, and they brandished their Digivices, saying as one, “Initiate…”

Sarah, Jen, and Jeremy called, “…Warp Digivolution!”

Kristin called, “…Digiplayer Digivolution!”

“Ponymon, Warp Digivolve to…”

“Coltmon, Warp Digivolve to…”

“Mechmon, Warp Digivolve to…”

“TechnoPupmon, Direct Digivolve to…”

“TechAngewomon!”

“MechAngemon!”

“Decimatormon!”

“TechnoWeremon!”

I plugged my Digivice and Digiplayer together and inserted both the Digidisk of Courage, and the Digidisk of Friendship, calling, “Initiate, DNA Warp Digivolution!”

“Serpentmon…”

“BlackColtmon…”

“…DNA Warp Digivolve to! InfernoKnightmon!”

Before he knew it, Tyranterramon was facing down seven Ultimate Level Digimon, five Perfect Level Digimon, and a handful of Adult and Child Level Digimon. Garudamon summoned a ball of fire from the crater above, and the mighty flames wreathed her arms and her wings.

“With the data of the Mountain Core,” said Tyranterramon, “I’ll finally have to power to sense the location of the Final Core. I will be unbeatable!”

“You’ll never reach the Mountain Core,” said Garudamon. “We won’t let you.”

“You can’t defeat me,” said Tyranterramon. “Not before I reach the core.”

“We don’t need to defeat you,” I replied. “You can only absorb a core if your power is near its peak. All we have to do is weaken you enough that the core is outside your reach. Once you’re unable to absorb the Mountain Core, you’ll barely be a threat.”

I looked up at Garudamon, “Want to get this started?”

“You know it!” She rose into the air and spread her wings, calling, “Wing Blade!” A bird shaped blade made of pure fire erupted from her wings. The fire from the volcano fed it, and it grew to many times its original size. Tyranterramon tried to block the attack, but it curved around his defenses, burning him and holding him in place as it continued to swirl around his body.

But before the attack could deal lethal damage, and before the other Digimon could fire their own attacks, Tyranterramon, with great effort, threw his arms open wide and flung the fire away. He punched, sending waves of energy at the temple in a desperate attempt to get his hands on the core.

“No you don’t,” said InfernoKnightmon. He rose up and took the full force of the attack. InfernoKnightmon, once Tyranterramon’s superior, was thrown like a rag doll through the air. He fell and hit the rocky ground below, sliding for several yards before he stopped, unmoving.

While Tyranterramon was busy attacking InfernoKnightmon, Decimatormon seized the opportunity to attack Tyranterramon from behind. Enraged, Tyranterramon turned and punched, hammering Decimatormon in the chest. Decimatormon fell, and was caught by TechnoWeremon.

“Are you okay?” the smaller machine asked.

“Yeah,” Decimatormon answered, “I’m okay.”

I watched as the Digimon circled their opponent, launching attack after attack. Tyranterramon continued to deflect most of the attacks, but thanks to the damage from Garudamon’s fire, the attacks that made it through actually seemed to be doing him harm. I didn’t notice at the time, but the Mountain Core was beginning to flash again in response to all of the fighting. At the same time TechnoWeremon jumped up, kicking Tyranterramon in the face. But as he fell back to the ground, TechnoWeremon was caught by the leg by the infuriated Tyranterramon. Tyranterramon swung him, slamming him into the angels, and then into Garudamon. Finally Tyranterramon slammed TechnoWeremon into the ground and let go. TechnoWeremon de-Digivolved to TechnoPupmon and fell unconscious. Tyranterramon raised his fist and swung it, aiming to crush the tiny robotic dog. “Noooo!” Kristin cried. There was another flash from within the temple, and TechnoPupmon woke up. He jumped out of the way at the very last second and turned to face his opponent. Kristin’s Digivice came to life, and TechnoPupmon began to change.

“TechnoPupmon, Warp Digivolve to,” He grew until he was humanoid and about six feet tall. He was essentially human in appearance, wearing a black shirt and tattered jean shorts under a blue, green striped wolf-skin cloak draped over his shoulders, secured by a sash around his waist. The head of the skin covered his eyes and head like an oversized hood. His hands were robotic and shaped more like wolf’s paws. His legs and his neck were clearly mechanical as well. Attached to his left arm appeared a green beam shield, and a cloth mask covered his mouth, “CyberGarurumon!”

The limber new form jumped through the air at lightning speed, flipped, and kicked off of Tyranterramon’s swinging fist. He kicked Tyranterramon in the face, knocking him back, and then took aim with his right palm, holding his right arm with his left hand, and called, “Cyber Wolf-Claw!” Energy built in his palm, discharging in the form of a thick leaf green beam. It hit Tyranterramon in the face and eyes, blowing his faceplate away. Tyranterramon clutched at his face and stumbled back. As he did, CyberGarurumon removed his sash, letting his cloak flutter free, revealing several missile launchers embedded in his back. They emerged and fired as CyberGarurumon called, “Cyber Wolf-Bite!” missile after missile fired, curving and hitting Tyranterramon in his torso and head. He cried out in pain, fell and landed hard on his back.

CyberGarurumon landed gracefully on his feet, securing his cloak once again with his sash. As he did, Tyranterramon sat up, only to find himself surrounded by flames extending from Garudamon’s and MagnaBrauntomon’s wings. The Digimon, Gekomon and Otamamon and all, took up position and released their attacks in what they hoped would be the final assault against their foe. Blades and beams and missiles and flames tore at Tyranterramon’s flesh. When he finally managed to rise, he was hunched over, unable to reach his full height. He stumbled forward, toward the temple, and fell to his knees. The temple was just out of his reach.

“You’ve lost, Tyranterramon,” I said. “Even if you were to reach the temple, you’re too weak to absorb the core now. Face it, it’s over.”

But just as the Digimon began to relax, Tyranterramon smiled. He thrust his palm, releasing waves of energy that tore through the temple, slicing the head off of the Phoenixmon statue and throwing it through the air. Another wave shattered the head and the Mountain Core within it. The shards of the core were absorbed into Tyranterramon’s outstretched hand.

I stared in disbelief as once again Tyranterramon was encased in light. As the light spread, Tyranterramon looked me in the eyes and said, “Good try human, but I don’t need to be at full strength to absorb the cores anymore.”

I fell to my knees. Above me, Garudamon said, “We failed. Now there’s only one core left.”

Her words shook me out of my stupor. I looked around, surveying the mountains and the clouds that were forming above them.

“We have to get out of here,” I said. “We still have work to do.”

The Digimon scooped us up, and in moments my entire makeshift band of warriors was airborne, souring away from the devastation that I had allowed happen. I looked back, gazing through the rain and the lightning. In the center of the chaos was the indestructible titan known as Tyranterramon.

the next chapter was going to be the last one for awhile, but i think i'm gonna keep going in this fic until book 2 is finished. the next chapter reunites Garudamon, Jijimon, and Babamon with the weaker form of yet another Guardian. he's someone we all know from book one. anyone have a guess?

let me guess' date=' your eventually going to make John be able to bio-merge with either of his partners

[/quote']

no. bio-merge is handled differently in my books than in the anime. they can't always get it to happen when they need it, but it's a lot more powerful. it can also ONLY happen as a result of exposure to the Forest Core.

now that they've been exposed, the digimon/humans who have bio-merged so far always can, but others can't.

Wait, wait, wait. So only trees can cause DNA, not even Metal. You know when I first heard about the guardians I thought maybe Glary and Fredrik might have been a part of them (especially Glary as he is a program himself). Maybe their is a 6th digicore in the Digi Garden that allows digimon to be revived. This makes sense because Babamon already opened a cafe a long time ago that they frequented, but Jijimon died.

But that is overly hoping, just like saying that Glary could perform Biomerge but fusing his Fractal Code with Droidmon. But then he would be stuck in that form. Wait, he's dead, never mind.

Also Machinedramon, it's obvious.

this is a different jijimon and babamon. the ones from my special were alive a long time ago in the original digital world. these came about later when the Forest Guardian's aged and changed form. also, the cores are each tied to a different form of Digimon evolution, as well as a different principal or value:

-Ocean=Rebirth (in this digital world, the equivalent of Digi Garden is on an island near the area of the Ocean Core. i haven't decided if i'll ever write a book where the Digidestined leave the continent they're on now. if i do, this island will be the first place they go) and Life.

-Desert=Digivolution (from one level to the next, regardless of whether or not there are usually any special requirements) and Stamina.

-Forest=Bio-Merge (though its a different, more powerful, harder to control Bio-Merge) and Unity.

-Mountain=Warp Digivolution (but only in Digimon who are close to reaching the Ultimate Level naturally) and Strength.

-Final (Metal) Core=DNA Digivolution (only among similar Digimon, like Digimon of the same Type) and Wisdom.

i planned to introduce this stuff in the next couple chapters, but introducing it here doesn't hurt anything.

as for the Guardians themselves, i came up with them long before Glary and Fredrik were part of the story. they are all Digimon who reached their strongest level by borrowing the Sovereign's data, so they are stronger than most other Digimon. They also gain more strength when in there home area (only if they are in their strongest form) and when they come together. So far we've met the weakened forms of Rosemon and Oberomon (an original Digimon based on Oberon from Shakespear's "A Midsummer Night's Dream"), Phoenixmon, and soon Millenniummon (you guessed right, it's Machinedramon). the weaker reborn form (or i should say forms) of Pharaohmon is already with the group, leaving only the final Guardian, MetalSeadramon, who (as far as we know) was killed by Tyranterramon when he attacked the Ocean Region (but remember, the Ocean Core is Rebirth, and more importanly Life, so its possible that he survived (and would also explain why he lived so much longer than the others)).

i hope this clarifies some things. there are a couple spoilers in there, but oh well.

anyway, new chapter tomorrow, or maybe even tonight if i can't sleep.
