Tips on NOVELS styles

If you plan on becoming a writer, thew follow these tricks:

1. Listen to your English teacher every time you see him/her at school.

2. Watch your grammar after writing

3. Decide yourself a writing style. You`ll understand by reading this.

If you plan on writing something, then you must decide a style. Here I present all styles.

1. Normal-life

In this style of book, nothing special happens. All that happens may occur in real life. In a recent book I read, "Marley and Me", everything could happen. There was no action, no fantasy, no dangerous robots. It was normal, nothing else.

2. Action-style

There`s a lot of action and battles. You must be precise on the movements of your fighting characters because if you aren`t then your readers will get puzzled. Add details, not too many. There still is a story behind all that, if your character always battles it will get boring.

3. Quest, or Adventure

Most of the books of this style have a bit of everything. As an example, the Final Fantasies. Plus, this kind of books will get on stores in many tomes instead of one. During the story, there will be action, battles, but mostly, and that`s very important, PLOT TWISTS. The heroes have a main storyline, but the many things that happen during the story let them wonder about their mission.

Recently, I wrote something like this. These were video game heroes sent in the reality. The guy who "materialized" them had apparently no reason to do that. But that man also materialized their worst enemies, and during the story they never stop fighting. During their journey to get back on their games, they learn that living in real life is way better than in a videogame, and so on. They finally encounter the man, who creates the greatest challenge they ever faced. During the battle, they talk and talk... until everything is known. The man is defeated, but the heroes still wonder if it`s a great idea to get back on their games... That`s how a quest looks like.

4. Fantasy

Like the Harry Potter ones. This is a style where fantastic elements exist. There may be golems, witches, monsters, magicians, devils, etc. As long as fantasy has a giant use on the plot storylines.

5. Science-fiction

Same as Fantasy, but instead of fantastic elements there`s futuristic elements such as robots, aliens, mutants, etc.

6. Information

This can be a novel style, I just dunno how to arrange it.

7. Horror

This can be based on everything here, but with gore, blood, and of course monsters.DANGEROUS monsters. More than likely all heroes die at the end or there is a plot twist so the case is not solved, actually it`s worse. But it doesn`t needs any monsters, sometimes just add horrific elements. The kind of thing that scares the s*** outta you, if you understand.

8. Investigation or Mystery

There is always a crime at the beginning. Then an investigator will search for clues to unmask the killer or the robber. There is a trick to know the real killer, but i won`t say it. The perpetrator or the suspect is almost always revealed at the end.

I hoped this helps. If you needed some help, then use this. I also hoped you liked reading this.

PS. The example I gave for the Quest section is copyrighted. I created the heroes.

PPS: I`m not an Ebglish teacher, I don`t know everything.

PPPS. These are only for novels. If you want to write somethig else, go back.

"and of course monsters.DANGEROUS monsters."

Horror doesn't need monsters. It also doesn't need blood and gore. There are psychological horrors as well, things that have a lack of blood and gore, but make you scared shitless anyways (Stephen King is a perfect example here). A better way to put it, would be "novels with horrific elements".

"There is always a murder or anything else at the beginning."

Why don't you just say "Crime" instead of murder or anything else?

"killer or teh robber."

Killer or robber? There are hundreds of other crimes that can be investigated. To catch the Perpetrator/Suspect would be better.

I know copyrights cost $$$money$$$ (with these symbols, it means A LOT), and finding an editor may take you many months, even years. I know what I`m saying. I met an author from my French country, he told me that finding an editor may take a lot of time, because they will refuse your scripts, your stories, until they`re perfect. By the time you do that, you must pay around 100$ per book you made, this copyright will stay 70 years after your death. So it`s worth paying.

Finally, if you find an editor (many years later), the editor will make copies of your book, and... Well, I`m just at the writing step for now, so I`m trying to learn the job. But Brian Perro (the writer I met) told me to start with many short stories in the same book. That`s what I`m doing, I started 13 stories, each 7 or 8 pages. Brian Perro told me`they read only the 20 first pages. If that`s great, they keep it for later. If it sucks... Right in the basket, and you get a letter.

Another tip I learned: Make copies of your book, so yu can send it to many editors, you have better chances.

Phew.. That was a long speak. I`m empty. I hope it`s enough.

A last tip: Try to speak to an author, ask him tips. That`s what I did, and see what I wrote? ALL THAT!

Yeah after all I also learned being ONLY a writer doesn`t makes you filthy rich. You must have a secnd job, because finding an editor is... Xtremely hard. Unless J. K. Rowling taught you everything, I don`t think you will be rich anyway. You only get 10% of what the books gives back to you. If it is sold 10 $, you get only 1. Not really big, eh? If your book is a 100$ brick with 1000 pages… It`s getting better, but still small.

Which is stupid. That money should be going into medical research.

Did you know that here in Alberta, at the university here, we may have found the cure for a strain of cancer? But the drug that ended up curing it, is very cheap, and so no one will fund the UofA for more research, because they can't make very much profit off of it.

Still, people who play sports, or make/act-in movies should not get that much money. The world would be a much better place...

-Money could go into helping third world countries with poverty issues

-Money could go into preventing "Global Climate-Change" (If you believe in it, that is)

-Money could go into medical research and development, which could lead to finding the cure for cancer, AIDs, HIV, and even the common cold.

-Money could go into scientific research and development. Heck, we'd probably be driving in hover-cars by now if the money that is being loaded into sports and movies was put into science.

Writers only get 10%. Don`t complain we become rich easily, it`not true. Money is the motor for every vice. If somebody doesn`t get enough money after such a rich life... It`s hell.
