「tea.leaf」
By now I have seen writing from every single staff member on this website. I can safely say that only three moderators (four if you count YCMaker) post with consistently good grammar. Personally, I am sick of seeing poorly written on the forum, and the mods are not setting good examples with their crappy English. Every single staff member needs to be reeducated in English mechanics, right now. Give them an SAT Writing exam, it's a fairly good measure of ability. Get a 600 or higher, and you keep your job. How does that sound? EDIT: First experiences. When I first tread upon this forum, the only member that seemed intelligent was Crab Helmet. He was a prominent poster and provided good reasoning for his opinions in a clear and legible manner. At first, I couldn't even believe that some like DJ was a moderator, given how poor his English was. Later on I discovered several other members with solid grammar, and, as it turns out, these individuals were quite intelligent. On the other hand, the people that I see making the most idiotic statements were those with broken English, hardly legible. Perfect grammar is not a possibility, but the majority of the staff members are making ELEMENTARY errors on a ROUTINE basis. Language is the key to communication and conduct, especially in a text-only community like a forum. How can you possibly lead such a community with people who cannot write properly? PrometheusMFD
I agree with you to an extentMods should have at least legible English skills, but I don't think that going to an extent of an SAT Writing exam would work.We should have it so mods with bad grammar can be "reported" or something.I don't know, really, an effective resolution to this problem. Also, I think this should be moved to 'Comments, Suggestions, Help' thread

「tea.leaf」
Is English your first language? Because even if it isn't' date=' you should be able to type it well.[/quote'] Not a question for me, but I feel like answering it. I partake in the public school system, but my school is relatively prestigious in my district. On the last paper for English, I was one of only two to receive an A; the other girl was a native Chinese like me. What does this say about America, when the dominant race cannot even wield its language effectively?

Monkey
As far as I know, all the mods are literate. Despite how illiterate they were earlier during their time on YCM, they have grown to be more literate and gramatically correct. But in my opinion, they should be literate because they are who run the place, they are kind of the "role models"

PrometheusMFD
I do speak American (which is a branch of English! It is like Spanish compared to Portuguese, there are similarities in sentense structure and pronunciation, but the languages are quite different) very well (as well as 5 other languages but that was for personal reasons) and find it deplorable that people who speak it as a second language have better understanding and ability at it then those of us who learned it first! There is a guy, Rafael, in my American History class who, even with a very thick accent (he moved here from Brazil only last year), has completely legible speach(which is insulting since he only started speaking it on a daily basis last year). But when another person (a "gangsta" guy) speaks, no one understands what he says!「tea.leaf」and Monkeybuoy2 have brought up a very good point! The mods should have a half-way decent command of this language. As representatives of the site if nothing else!
Obi-wan Cannoli
I sort of agree with your point. I believe their grammar should be better, however, it doesn't have to be as "perfect" as you say. An SAT is a little extreme, considering its for an internet forum. On a side note, writing and reading perfect grammar can be rather boring. Overall, it could and should be better. Writing like this reminds me far too much of school. DesCrow
The only grammar abuse that gets on my nerves is double negatives, reminds me of rednecks (which I hate). Other than that I have seen a bunch of spelling mistakes, does no one else get red lines under misspelled words?
PrometheusMFD
I said something similar. Mods' grammar should at least be presentable. n0t thi s c rp. Their grammar doesn't even have to be as good as mine is (grammar-nazi), but I still think (and 「tea.leaf」might agree) that it should be at least readable. As to the other point, some browsers do not have built-in spell-checks. To remedy that, moderators should either install spell-checks or upgrade to better browsers. Arekku_Koro
Agreed. I believe that in order to put our best foot forward, we need moderators who can craft a sentence. Although I do not think the epidemic deserves an SAT. What we need to ask the moderators is "Do you take this job seriously enough to show pride in your grammar?" Again, flawless grammar is impossible in this day and age (online at least), although I think the moderators need to show some respect for their forum.
