Miazo
You shouldn't start.
problematica
that depends on the children's sense of responsibility. There are certainly those who'd be smart enough to know when it's to drink and when it's not Problem isn't those who know when to not drink or don't drink at all, it's the ones who drink way too much. They outnumber the few that don't over do it. Also, if those who do drink, but refrain from it when they find it to be bad, do so in large amounts, it actually affects their brain functions. It causes similar holes in brain activity and capabilities as some drugs and would inhibit their ability to logically find times to not drink and end up just drinking all the time. ragnarok1945
yeah and this is why you never should begin. The more you drink, the less able you can think well and you'd lose control of knowing when it's time to and when you don't. You don't feel anything at first when you begin, and as a result you think you can take much more when in reality you can't
Miazo
Exactly what I said. Never start drinking!
Dark
If you lower the age, more people would feel as drinking is all right. Having growing 16 year-olds drinking is not the way to go. And let's say we go through with this. When the limit was 18, 16 year-old people were drinking. If the limit is 16, 14-year-old people would be drinking. Baaaad idea. ragnarok1945
In the US the drinking age remains at 21, but I've been plenty of 16 year olds drinking anyway. You lower it to 16, you really think this means you're going to get a ton of 12 year olds to start?
Dark
Yeah, why do you think those 16 year-olds drink? Cuz they can't. OK, age lowered to 16! 12 year-olds can drink. Let's sneak outta the house and drink illegaly. OK, age lowered to 12! And it goes on and on.
ragnarok1945
at least the 12 year olds don't have to worry about getting into car accidents if they drink. In Europe that age is still 18, are there plenty of 14 year olds that drink there? (I don't know this answer, so I'm asking)
Dark
Actually, in Europe, the wine does not contain as much alcohol content. And most of the water is polluted. So the age limit is 10, I believe. More on topic, it doesn't matter bout car crashes. Being drunk is NOT GOOD FOR YOUR BODY, whether your 10, 50 or 100. ragnarok1945
Wine is drunk all the time in Europe. I know it's not as potent, but once you drink it too much, the result is still the same. I never drink because I know its bad effects, but some people feel once they drink enough they will develop an immunity to it, and this gets them to encourage others to drink under age
Valkyrie Lupia Blitzer
If so, only by 1 year.
ragnarok1945
I'm not sure one year will actually make that huge a difference for underage drinking. Changing it from 21 to 20 is probably only enough to get 15 year olds to drink
Luna Lovegood
Ok, what does this accomplish? It lets 14 years olds have easy access to beer. Also, this is another 'The US is the only country in the world' thread. CANADA FTW
ragnarok1945
so you think we should simply raise the drinking age higher?
Luna Lovegood
I never said that. I don't care what the US does.
ragnarok1945
and what do do you want Canada to do then?
Luna Lovegood
19 is good for Canada.
ragnarok1945
and you think underage drinking won't happen?
Luna Lovegood
It does, but lowering it wont do anything at all, except screw the kids.
ragnarok1945
yeah well raising it should do something similar, some kids simply will not have the patience to wait longer
Luna Lovegood
Doing nothing will help them ^__^ But really, changing it will either screw the kids or the police. Take your pic .
ragnarok1945
yeah well it's obvious you can't remove alcohol completely, unless you simply want the bootlegging business to prosper
Luna Lovegood
Then doing nothing is the best way to do something... Wait, how does that work?
ragnarok1945
basically you expect the majority of the people to figure it out on their own, and hopefully by then it won't be too late
Luna Lovegood
Yep. Also, if they want to drink illegally, they can try. But it marginally discourages them. But if it where higher, people would be drinking for more time illegally.
