Look at "Dark Magician of Chaos"... see how good he is? And he's got more DEF, a lower level, and more beneficial effects than your corny-lookin' reaper here. As much as its good to stay safe, you need to wander outside of the boundaries of orthodox. We've already used up every single good idea there is without thinking outside the box, so you have to pick up the pace more than ever.
