armageddon08
Yeah I know that' date=' but I'm not sure I liked the film's 12 min made up ending either[/quote']How did it end?
ragnarok1945
Well, after they fled the market, they drove until the SUV was out of gas. That's when the 5 of them knew they would die from the monsters in the mist. Drayton (main character), who still had the 6 shooter to kill the 5 of them if this case happened, had only 4 rounds left, so one of them had to face the monsters. He kill the two seniors, that one woman, and his 8 year old kid (to prevent the monsters from killing him), then stepped out of the SUV to wait for the monsters to kill him Literally less than a minute after he stepped out, a US military tank approached from behind him, revealing long columns of US military vehicles clearing up the mist (and thus the monsters with it), along with vehicle after vehicle of survivors they rescued from the catastrophe, which meant Drayton had been driving away from help this entire time and he just killed his son for nothing. armageddon08
That would suck if it happened in real life.
ragnarok1945
well, the entire point of the movie is focused on hopelessness. You're pretty much left with two choices: the evil you don't know, or the evil thought that didn't exist
armageddon08
I'dd take on the evil I thought wouldn't exist just because I'dd know what it was.
ragnarok1945
you probably wouldn't. The basic point is simple: you get to see how primitive and savage human beings can become
armageddon08
you probably wouldn't. The basic point is simple: you get to see how primitive and savage human beings can becomeI think it's really funny how Stephen King makes so many hidden references to popular events and things going on around the world, that if you understand at least one of those, you begin to understand the rest, and you can't unsee the interpretations. ragnarok1945
perhaps, in any case all you have to do is ask yourself is the human race fundamentally insane or not
armageddon08
I think everyone's insane, and going insane is just realizing that sanity is but an illusion.
ragnarok1945
yeah I know. Some people say we are a civilized society, but the movie is trying to show that's only true as long as the machines are running, the lights are on, you can call for help and help actually arrives. You take all these things away, turn the lights out, scare the hell out of the people, remove all the rules/barriers, you can see how primitive people get
armageddon08
The only things that keep the society together are rules. I know this is irrelevant, but if you ever read The Lord of the Flies, it shows how much society is needed to keep balance in the way people act, and society cannot be one person. ragnarok1945
Never read Lord of the Flies, only seen the movie. But I know what you're getting at

armageddon08
I know this is crazy and off topic, but I think TV's are actually brainwashing devices. Have you noticed those 1/2 second sublime messages during a commercial break?
ragnarok1945
actually I haven't. What are they like?
armageddon08
Well, usually it's like a dollar sign or some kind of symbol flashing fast onscreen(for about 1 Second) when the commercial break starts. That's part of the reason that I don't watch tv anymore.
ragnarok1945
at any rate, Lord of the Flies makes a same conclusion on the human race as The Mist
armageddon08
I guess both of the authors who wrote the books must have shared a similar oppinion on humanity.
ragnarok1945
that's true, but at least the Mist better ways to scare the living hell out of people

ragnarok1945
You take invading monsters from another dimension and start killing people, that gets people to go primitive far faster than just stranded on an island
armageddon08
But if you add the army and a crazy fortuneteller/messiah person into it, you get a movie that's just chock full of funny conspiracies and scary ath the same time:).
