Sammidysam
[spoiler=My Old Message]I need help. I am writing a book(not for school) and I need an idea for it. I have jotted down one character so far, but I need a idea for the Main Idea. The only character right now is Tim Sorrow. I need a location for the story(or setting) and some more ideas. So, can YCM please help me? Thanks, Sam EDIT: I want about 70,000 words on 12 size font, and I don't want cuss words in it(for the audience), the genre is adventure, and I need ideas and characters for the book. OK, I have 2 characters now and all I need is character names. I need a name for Tim's Mom and Dad, and I need some other characters. Please help, Sam

Sammidysam
Well, I want about 70,000 words on 12 size font, and I don't want cuss words in it(for the audience), I am making it a made-up story, I don't know that genre, IDK what it is about. That is why I made this stinking thread!
Careless Whisper
Well, you want to work on Genre first. What type of genres in books do you like to read?

Sammidysam
Adventure, I guess. I'll need to post that stuff on the first post.
Lil Jevans
Any particular type of adventure? Treasure hunting, avenging a family member, finding a lost friend? Any of those. I might be able to give you some character ideas. I wrote a trilogy myself so I could help if I knew what kind of adventure.
Sammidysam
I was thinking about there is a evil person(either in the Sorrow family or not), and he likes to bully Tim at school. Later, I don't know that stuff after that. Horrer Adventure?
Lil Jevans
Think of it like this, in a lot of successful novels the author thinks of the main character's personality and makes the bad guy almost a complete opposite to him. Take Lord of the Flies for example, Jack (bad guy) was a control freak from the beginning of the novel and always took advantage of Ralph (leader and good guy) and questioned him whenever possible. The guy bullying Tim could be like Jack and challenge him at every turn and question everything he does.
Sammidysam
I kind of get that, so I guess I could now get some character ideas.

Guest Tiger
OK. If your doing adventure, write a sad story. Like "Old Yeller". Or perhaps something like "Where the Red Fern Grows". Something sad, but good.

Tabris
Then try to find such. A good book in itself; you could use it as a model.

Guest PikaPerson01
I have a bad habit of having brilliant ideas for stories, but having no initiative to ever follow through with these ideas. I think I wrote only one original story once, and it was pretty bad. Oh wells. On-topic: Uhh... I dunno. I could give you an idea or something. Remember not to make your character so "perfect" or w/e. Don't follow strict "good guy/bad guy" formula. But by the sound of it, Tim Sorrow sounds like a bit of a corny name. <_<

Pikachu
The last name is horribleIt should be something like Tim Hoskins or Tim StruemanAs for the setting, a town near a mountain/forest would be ideal
