Yugioh - Created Card Game

I'm not sure where this should be posted but this section seems to get the most readers and this project is geared towards the people who post in this section. I do apologize if this is not the right section.

A lot of us here enjoy creating are cards but has any one of us taken our card creation one step further and actually using them in a game? This is exactly what I would like to try and organize here. Some of you might be wondering how it would be possible to do this and it’s actually quite simple. YVD is a free online Yugioh client that allows players from around the world play Yugioh together. The system they use to add cards to the database is simple and allows for anyone to add their own cards to the database. So in essence it is possible to set up a created card game for Yugioh card players. What I would like to try to do is organize a community of card creators who are willing to play online with a card database that is created by users from various forums and even include some (not all) cards from the TCG/OCG. I think a project of this nature can be very fun and help better our card making skills.

Obviously, in order to get this up and running we need the contributions of dedicated people to help make this go as smoothly as possible. I’m not asking people to dedicate their lives to this but if we have several people doing certain tasks then things will go a lot smoother and we get to the real fun part, which should be the dueling. The most obvious tasks we need are:

Card Creators: Everyone who joins up is free to create cards but there will be rules and guidelines to card creation that will be explained later on.

Re-Wording: People who can go over the submissions and correct any wording issues there may be. I will be included in this group.

People who can convert to YVD format: YVD only recognizes cards in its database when it’s written in a specific format. I will post what the formats are for each type of card later on. I will try to get everyone to submit their cards in YVD format since it’s easier that way but there will be exceptions to this. In any case I will be one of the people who will convert cards to YVD format.

People who can balance cards: Pretty much this is everyone who participates in this. Especially those who help play test the cards. We need people who can spot what cards become broken and what can be done to balance the cards.

Graphics: Anyone who can create images to the cards that get created. This is not a necessity but it does help things play testing if we can match an image to a card. Basically, if the person who submitted the card does not submit an image you are free to create an image that best fits the card. Furthermore, you can assist in changing the image into something that can be used in YVD.

Players: Anyone is free to play in the created card game regardless of whether they contribute to the card creation.

So anyone who wants to join and wants to help out with particular tasks please post here.

Of course, putting this together is not as simple as just getting everyone to sign up for it. There has to be some guidelines and rules to the system. So I would like to establish a set of rules that everyone can agree to. Card posting will be done in intervals in sets much like how the TCG and OCG. The intervals will need to be determined later and will be dependent on the amount of members we have. Basically, there will be a main set like The Duelist Genesis, Crossroads of Chaos, etc… This will contain the majority of our cards that are submitted. There may be a bonus set within the month where additional cards can be posted. This will be similar to say JUMP bonus cards or a Duel Terminal release.

Some card submission guidelines:

1. No cards that support existing themes to the TCG/OCG. Therefore, there will be no cards that support the E-Hero, D-Hero, etc… themes. Leave existing themes alone. It defeats the purpose of a created card game if everyone starts using existing themes.

2. Please do not make cards that are copies of existing cards in the TCG/OCG. I don’t want to see people creating a theme that just copies D-Heroes or other themes. There can exceptions to this rule if it’s part of a theme you are creating. However, I don’t want to see Destiny Draw clones for every theme that gets submitted.

3. Do not post cards that are overpowered and deserved to be banned from the start. If you feel that a card needs to be semi-limited or limited then make a note in your submission. However, try to avoid making cards that are worth semi-limiting/limiting from the start.

4. In general try to not to make cards that do the following:

-Generic Monster/Spell/Trap destruction that have easy activation requirements

-Generic cards that stall your opponent

-Level 4 or lower Normal monsters that have high ATK power. I don’t want to see a lot of Normal Monsters with 1900-2000 ATK in that Level range.

-Level 5-6 Normal monsters that have 2500+ ATK

-Non-Themed Normal or Quick-Play Cards that give you generic draw power. We don’t need Pot of Greed clones out there. Be warned that any cards that give generic draw power will be banned on the spot unless they have creativity activation conditions or have an appropriate cost. Even costs that are similar to Trade-in won’t be tolerated.

-Non-themed monsters that will Special Summon other monsters when they are destroyed by battle. Chances are we will import generic monster searches like Giant Rat so no need to be creating others that are similar.

-Monster Cards that have too many effects tacked onto them. I don’t mind monsters that have multiple effects but giving them all beneficial effects is ridiculous and may get them banned right away.

5. I know not everyone is a master of wording Yugioh cards and there may be people who use English as a second language, however, do try your best to word the cards as close to the way as the TCG does. Often if you are making an effect and you know the TCG has a card that uses similar wording then by all means compare what you are trying to do with that card.

6. Post all of your card submissions for a set into one post. If you make a post with a few cards then make more later on edit your initial card submission post with the new cards. It just makes it easier to track the cards that have been submitted. Just make a new post indicating that you’ve done so. Making new posts with new cards makes it difficult to track down what’s been submitted.

7. Do not submit cards that have pop cultural references. I don’t want to see cards based on television series, anime, manga, games, music, etc… It’s not hard to think up of different names for these cards there’s no reason to start making cards based on Naruto, Bleach, etc…

8. Do not create new Types, Sub-Types, Spells, Traps, etc… Only make cards that support what the TCG/OCG allow for. There may be a lift on this later on depending on how far we take this.

9. First time card creators cannot submit a new theme right away. In fact there will be a limit to when someone is able to submit a theme. All too often people want to join just so they can submit their own theme and then leave. I want people to stimulate creativity and create cards that can support what’s been established. Otherwise all we will get is a large cardpool of individual themes. That makes dueling no fun since everyone will just start using their own themes and we lose the purpose of what we are trying to do.

10. If you are submitting a theme, be careful of the synergy you create with them. We don’t need themes that field swarm and OTK/FTK your opponent on a consistent basis. We don’t need themes that totally shut out everything your opponent does easily. I don’t mind a toolbox theme or a control theme but be careful at how easy it does to achieve those goals. There has to be checks and balances to your theme. Any themes that are deemed to be broken will be subject to banning but most likely they will be edited so that they can be useable. For example, we don’t need to have every theme with a stratos, destiny draw, or a sakuretsu armor card. We need creativity and doing things like that only stifles it.

Depending on how many people join I will need a certain amount of people contributing to the tasks necessary to make this work. If I don’t get enough people contributing to the tasks I won’t start this project but I will leave it open in case people decide to join later on. I will not do all of the work by myself so I need the help of volunteers.

We have setup an IRC channel where we can setup duel requests. If you wish to duel or talk about the cards then you can join us at #ccg on Xerocreative. The irc channel is on irc.scrollrack.com on port 6667. If you require assistance on joining the irc channel let me know and I’ll do my best to help. Once we have our card pool established play testing can commence and we really do need to have people who can test the cards. This is important because we can determine what cards are broken or require edits. There will be a forbidden list much like the TCG/OCG list that will be updated as often as possible. However, anything that makes it to the list will be discussed with the other members to get a proper debate on what should be ban/limit/semi worthy.

So before we start making cards who is willing to volunteer to help with this project? What are some suggestions you have for this project? Also, what cards from the TCG/OCG do you people think would be necessary to import to the CCG?

Although I make this open to everyone I will say that people who submit cards without abiding the guidelines will be ignored.

Hi! I am interested in joining! I was already working on CCG game set and it was really great!

So i would like to try and start again to see how this one will end....anyway i think that in General doesnt come lot of people that usually visit Realistic Card thread so i would suggest moderators that they make new sub-forum for things like this one because General YUGIOH thread is missing...

What is next ? Do u have forum or what? Or we would do it here? And how would it go?

I highly recommend you join our irc channel but I'm looking to get a few more volunteers before I kick things off. I need people to contribute to the tasks I mentioned in my first post. If I have enough people in the important tasks then I'll start things off. Again, I recommend for anyone who is interested to join our IRC channel.

Basically, once we get enough members we will determine the ground rules for the created card game. Once that's been laid out then I will make a new thread for set 1 submissions. The set 1 thread will kick start our card pool including what cards from the tcg and ocg should be included into our card pool. A limit will be determined on how many cards a person can submit for set 1. Then we'll agree on a deadline to have your card submissions in by. Once the deadline is met then no further submissions can be made. Our word smiths will then have time to correct any wording issues where our yvdfyers will convert the submissions into yvd format and we'll enter those submissions into our yvd.set file which will be distributed on the irc channel but I can make a direct dl link through megaupload/rapidshare. Once that's done our testing phase will begin where duels will commence through our irc channel and yvd obviously. Testing will be conducted to determine what cards need to be edited and fixed and what cards may become ban worthy in the future. Once the testing is complete the 1st set will be finalized and we'll enter the 2nd set submissions. That's pretty much the process in a nut shell.

All people who would like to join please state what you would like to do for the created card game whether it would be just card creating or helping out with one of the other tasks. I urge anyone to help with some of the key tasks like rewording and/or yvdfying the cards. If I don't get enough help I won't start the project.

For now just stay here but if you want to be more involved please download an IRC client like mirc and join our irc channel on xerocreative. I've provided the server details and the port numbers it uses in my first post.
