well' date=' classes you have to register to get in, and it's a first come first serve basis. There's not enough professors to teach ALL the students who want in

Isn't Spanish compulsory...in America?

once you reach high school you can choose different languages (though most still stuck with Spanish since they got used to it)

How many different languages can you take at maximum? I believe I have all those you can get in Belgian high school. (Dutch, French, English, German and Spanish)

I would love to learn Japanese and I'm a slow learner so It'll probably take me at least 6 months for me to master the essentials.

In my opinion' date=' Japanese is a beautiful language and It'll be cool coming from the states to be fluent in it, GOD LOVES JAPAN!

6 months? Make that 6 years to get the basics.

^: That's only because there is no general phonics to it at all.

If there was, I could probably ace it within a few months. (Provided that I wasn't lazy).

The english language can be mastered relatively quickly with mild understanding.

Due to that each word can beyond the rough basic 100 words (not gonna grab that list), can be understood through deductive reasoning. Even if you do not have any prior knowledge of a word, you can take clues from the context and intent of the person to understand that new word. Such is Phonics.

Japanese/Nihongo does not have that.
